A delicious twist on the kaya toast. Loved the heady coconutty notes and crispy thin toast. Pity the taste of matcha was rather weak. Other flavours include earl grey creme, cinnamon sugar and black sesame.

The sea salt mint iced latte was a refreshing pick-me-up in this sweltering weather, but again, the milk-to-coffee ratio wasn't in its favour. For non-coffee drinkers, chocolate and mocha options are also available with other interesting flavours such as black sesame, Irish cream, caramel rum, pumpkin spice, etc..

Even though it was $6 a piece, you must try at least once. A hint of cinnamon and white powder sugar made me felt like Christmas came early.

There are quite a few Teppei Syukudo outlets around, but only the ION outlet offers the flexible customizability of salad and rice and various sizes with a variety of options from fish, toppings and condiments. Originally at $15.80, the medium size comes with four different types of fish (went with salmon, tuna, baby scallops and yellow tail) while we added Mentaiko seasoning at $0.80. Quite a generous bowl with quality cuts of marinated fish which was pretty savoury with a umami touch by the seasoning. Each bowl comes with special sauce, ikura, wasabi, goma etc; a pretty good option to spoil yourself with if you are around Orchard.

The generous portion of the happily-sized and uber-fresh seafood cubes will leave you in a state of suspended sashimi bliss and the pearly rice-to-seafood ratio was magical. Elsewhere, the marinate was a glorious cross between Teppei Syokudo's legendary (albeit occasionally eagerly salty) one and sweet teriyaki sauce. Priced at only $12.80, this astonishing marvel is destined for greatness. 4.5/5

What is better than straight cut fries? I think the answer is well… curly fries!

Served on a wooden board, the LoKal’s Lobster Rolls comes with crispy and well-seasoned curly fries on the side that I haven’t had for ages, but the highlight is of course the sweet chunks of shellfish. At $22, the lightly toasted bun holds slabs of slipper lobster tails, gherkin, crunchy coleslaw and tangy lemon mayonnaise which make for a great ‘me-time’ lunch in the lovely ambience of the cafe.

Fried chicken (not dry on the inside thankfully) drenched with gritty salted egg yolk sauce on waffles is a sinful but indulgent combination for breakfast. Not a good idea if you're intending to head to office with a food coma in tow. Nevertheless, salted egg yolk sauce is done well (like the kind you'd find in zi char stalls) but waffles needs to be further improved 🙁 Paired it with an Apple Cinnamon Coffee ($6) that comes with a cinnamon stick for you to stir your drink. How fun!

Cheesy fish & chips ($9) & cheesy chicken chop umo ($8.50) & granny green apple ($3.90) & buffalo chicken wing ($8) & cheese fries ($4.50)

This Assam Crab Waffle is the creation of inspirations from the Kedah Laksa, a dish which is very similar to what we are more familiar with, the Assam Laksa. A specialty blend of 8 spices are used and the waffles are topped with crab meat and pineapple cucumber salsa. On the side you'll find the assam gula melaka mayo. This dish didn't sound too appetizing to me at the start but I was pleasantly surprised how everything went so well together! The mayo especially was a burst of sweet, sour and savory flavors. It was so tangy and addictive, I found myself scraping all the sauce off the plate with the waffle! This is one dish I'll come back for.
