Ah Heng Curry Chicken Bee Hoon is famous, or so I’ve been told. I consider myself a curry chicken connoisseur, but I usually eat my curry with rice or bread instead of noodles. Still, I’m always up for a good curry, so I ordered the large bowl for eight bucks to see if Ah Heng is as good as advertised.⠀

Truth be told, it’s alright. It’s sufficiently salty with a notable bit of sweetness, but it was awfully oily. The spice levels were manageable, but I simply had to turn up the heat with the superb sambal that Ah Heng has. It’s unbelievably umami, sufficiently spicy and thick, and Ah Heng could make a pretty penny if they packaged & sold their sambal chili. As for the rest of the bowl of curry chicken noodles, well, Ah Heng is rather generous with the portions of tau pok (beancurd puff) and potato chunks, and there’s a fair bit of chicken in there too. The chicken is tender and fairly juicy but bland, relying heavily on the curry for flavour.⠀

Ah Heng’s curry chicken ain’t bad, but I don’t find myself hankering for a second helping any time soon.

This might be the best curry chicken noodle in SG! The broth is mild spicy yet the lemak flavour makes it so delectable. I love their homemade chilli that adds more kick to the broth as i am a spice lover. All ingredients are fresh and goes extremely well with the broth. A definite must try if you are near the area!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Tabao version for this period.
Seriously delectable bowl of curry, chosen thick yellow noodles.
Soft curry potatoes, tender chicken meat, sliced taupok soaked up some curry and bouncy fish cake.
Really shiok and satisfying.

Family has been coming back here for a long time. It’s not the most affordable bowl of noodles, but you get a good variety of ingredients like tau pok, chicken, fishcakes and potato chunks. While the chicken slices could be more tender, the highlight for us is their light and flavourful broth. It’s not oily, so it’s very drinkable and good to have soaked up with the strips of tau pok. For a stronger kick of heat, add their chilli!

Years ago, during my practice trainee period, my colleagues and I would patronise the Queen Street outlet and order takeaways to bring back to our air-conditioned office. Without fail, my female colleague would take the teensiest portion of chilli and still have to force back tears, whilst another colleague of mine, one of those tanned and laddish "I love soccer" type of guys (he eventually set up @alexandrafootballacademy with like-minded ball enthusiasts) would whack the chilli with grand machismo... and sweat through his white shirt while constantly drying himself with three-ply tissue.

Ah, memories (of the chilli, not the sweat-steeped tissue).

Many ingredients- smooth glistening pieces of chicken, juicy tau pok, fish cake and potato packed in a luscious curry soup base. Gotta love this $4.50 bowl of curry mee.

Located at 531A Upper Cross Street, Hong Lim Complex Food Centre, #02-57/58, Singapore 051531. Hidden in a corner at level 2, we enjoyed this bowl of Curry Chicken Noodle from @ahhengccm 👍🏼 3 sizes, $4.50, $5.50, $6.50. We ordered $4.50 bowl and comes with plenty of tau pok, 2 fish cake, potato and tender breast meat! The best part is the fully soaked up tau pok in the flavourful curry which will burst in your mouth once u bites it! Super shiok!!! @ahhengccm #hungryunicornsg #ahhengccm #ahhengcurrychickenbeehoonmee #ahhengcurrymee #currynoodles

Some days you just want a spicy yet comforting soup to slurp slurp. This was not one of those days for me (!incoming sore throat!).

Nevertheless, the contrasting textures and flavours of beehoon and yellow noodle, which had absorbed all the coconutty spicy flavours of the soup, was really quite worth whatever sore throat that might befall me. Nothing fancy here, just the juicy tau pok and foolproof combo of 米粉面 that really stood out; though the odd use of chicken breast, while tender, seemed misplaced in this bowl of sinfulness.

Recall the next thing that you crave for. As for me I was craving for laksa and I knew this bowl curry chicken beehoon was nowhere close to a bowl laksa, but it's curry and beehoon! I was delighted with joy when I ate the tau kwa (which I normally dislike) as it was far from dry and in fact, I can taste the tofu as much as the curry absorbed in between the pores. Priced at $4, this meal is truly a comfort food with all the quality ingredients.

When I was doing my pupillage at a law firm in Bugis, this legendary curry mee was a guilty indulgence I’d revisit over and over again for that chilli so intensely and deeply smoky, chimneys wave white flags in surrender. The uncle who manned the cashier and took my orders (and is still there til this very day) spoke not a word of Mandarin, and whenever I placed my order he would repeat it in dialect, and I would feebly use whatever bits and bobs of dialect I learnt from my parents to confirm the order. He would always ask if I wanted hiamjio, and would insist I scoop it myself as I should be the one determining my own Vulcanian destiny. The chilli means serious business – my female colleague would always take the teensiest scoop and still force back tears, whilst one of the cheeky, laddish , “I love soccer”-esque guys would whack the chilli with grand machismo…and sweat through his white shirt while constantly drying himself with three-ply tissue. #Hawkerpedia

When I was doing my pupillage at a law firm in Bugis, this legendary curry mee was a guilty indulgence I'd visit over and over again, just for their chilli. Every ingredient that goes into this bowl is excellent: the poached chicken pieces are juicy and tender, the fish cake slivers smooth with a nice bite, and the potato cube disintegrates at the slightest 'kiap' of your chopsticks. But what truly makes this a winner is that insanely slurp-worthy broth; it may look diluted but boy, it sure delivers some serious punch! And don’t even get me started on the tau pok slices. After spending a good time bubbling in the lip-smacking broth, every sponge-like strip soaks up sooo much juicy goodness and there are plenty of them in there! A little spoonful of their chilli also goes a long way, adding elements of smokiness, super shiok fiery kick and depth to the overall flavour profile.

Chicken Curry Mee (the more authentic kind is to have half yellow noodles half bee hoon, but I had the thick bee hoon 😝) Slurping on the smooth noodles bathed in flavourful curry broth is something I would like to have on a rainy morning like this.

Every ingredient in this bowl was so on point. The tau pok was full of curry soup, it gushes out in your mouth. You could choose to de-bone your chicken, which was what I did.

Cannot resist. Yum yum craving satisfied. Double chilli curry chicken noodle + bee hoon. This is so much more satisfying than the past few days buffet at hotel. I think I am a true Singaporean. This will be what I miss if I leave my country 😁

For its price, there’s a generous amount of beancurd puffs, potato 🥔 , chicken 🐓, fishcakes and noodles in the broth. The broth may look watery and diluted but it surprisingly was packed full of flavours 🎉

However, having a go for this Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee is worth the sacrifice. It’s a little spicy but the broth is so tasty. I would’ve drank the entire thing if I was good with spicy food. They have been in business for 37 years and are also listed in the Michelin guide. ✨ Try to be early because there’s always at least 10 people in queue during peak hours.
