There’s a few stalls that sell lor mee here and Queen Street Orchid Lor Mee is one of them.

Managed by auntie that preparing your order patiently behind. There’s options of fish, chicken or pork to go with the noodle.

There’s also 2 kinds of fish to choose from, which is either batang or dory. I gotten myself the fried dory.

It comes with other ingredient also. I just find the gravy is more diluted for me. But taste wise still okay.

After searching for the most authentic Penang Hokkien Mee in Singapore, I can gladly to say that I have finally found it at this stall named the Penang Man.

Yes, I was so skeptical when this stall was introduced to me. I have been to a few disappointing trips to many other stalls that sell Penang style of Hokkien Mee, which most of them close but not tasty as what I can get in Penang.

So finally made my way here and totally excited once I have my first taste of it. The taste totally brings back my love and memory of Penang Hokkien Mee.

I would announce that this is serves the best and most authentic Penang Hokkien Mee that close to my home and childhood taste.

101 Fried Carrot Cake at Albert Centre provides a decent orh luak 101. 101’s orh luak is of the moister variety, although not as wet as Lim’s Fried Oyster. There are a couple of crispy bits lurking around in this messy, mouthwatering mound, but it’s soft & gooey from the fried tapioca starch mixed with a decent amount of eggs. For ten bucks flat I got ten oysters on this hot heap of eggy & starchy goodness, and it was so sinful yet so right.⠀

The oysters were plump, fresh and fried till just about cooked, minimising shrinkage. The briny bursts of the oyster gelled well with the gooey starchy bits and fluffy eggy omelette bits, but combined with the oil used to fry everything, it can and does get monotonous & overly cloying. That’s where the scintillatingly spicy & sour chili sauce comes in to enliven everything with its spiciness. Its sourness also rinses off all the grease from all that gooey fried goodness and keeps your tastebuds sharp, and the garlic notes round off the savouriness of the entire dish.⠀

At just $10, the fact that you can get an orh luak 101 crash course at 101 Fried Carrot Cake is pretty neat, and it’s why we need to keep Singapore’s hawker culture alive & well.

Ordered the Shredded Chicken Ipoh Hor Fun ($4).

The amount of chicken was generous but the sauce was taste kind of bland. The Kway Teow amount is not a lot.

I have been reading how popular this soup is and finally decided to go for it. I ordered the mixed seafood soup ($5.50) and the soup is really nice and seafood is fresh. Now I understand why the queue for it.

Beehoon noodles + chicken wing + otah + veggie @ $5

Quite good even though the food is not hot as we were there in the late afternoon. Hope to try again when the food is freshly cooked.

Ren Fried Kway Teow Mee could be one stall that easily missed out among all of the stalls at Albert Market.

But this stall has been here for many years and waiting time could be longer, as the chef usually frying every plate individually.

You won’t find any pork lards on your plate, but it still taste savoury sweet and wet. When seeing the chef frying it, you could find the chef adding lots of sweet soy sauce.

Generous ingredients for the bigger portion, which comes with hum and fish cake slices.

Green chilli chicken + long beans + peanuts ikan bilis @ $5.20

#01-63 Indonesian food sold by Chinese. Saw a long queue the previous time I was at the food centre and the plates that everyone was walking away with all looked damn good so was very tempted to try.

Came at about 1pm on a Friday and there's no queue at all. Was deciding between the normal chilli or green chilli and in the end went with the latter to give it a try. The green chilli taste is quite mild but the chicken is very tender and juicy, and it's also quite a huge portion.

Also liked that they gave a big portion of the peanut and ikan bilis as compared to how other stalls usually just sprinkle a few on the plate.

There's two types of chilli that are on self-service. The orange one (i think is belachan) is very nice and has a good kick. The red one (I think is sambal) tastes a little weird, but maybe cuz I was expecting the malay kind of sambal chilli.

In any case, it's really good and definitely will be back to try other dishes but after I try other stalls here also.

This was from the corner stall near the whampoa soya bean stall. It was decent, expect a typical vegetarian beehoon. I liked the crispy zai er!

Traditional Chee Cheong Fun + Yam cake, drizzled over sweet sauce & chilli sauce, dusted fried garlic & sesame seeds.
Bowl of classic peanut porridge, smooth.
Total $3.20 only.
The magic dust from fried garlic added the savoury sensation.

Chicken Rice 亮耀馳名四馬路雞飯

The sister outlet to the main shop along Waterloo St which is also within walking distance, the rice was fragrant and grainy, while the chicken was nicely seasoned in sesame oil and soy sauce, being tender as well!

Note: Food photos were taken before the current circuit-breaker measure.

Enjoyed this! The horfun was very fresh, it was soft but still had a nice bite to it. Beansprouts were crunchy and
there was no fishy taste. I usually prefer dry horfun but this was pretty good, the sauce wasn’t too goopy for my liking. Had this for one of my lunches when interning last year, and this was worth the travel from Raffles Place to Bugis!

😁 Popular Yong Tao Foo at Albert Hawker Centre. I like the prawn paste item and light flavoured soup. Had this for breakfast.

Hearty way to wash down a heavy meal at Albert Center, Bugis.

😋❤ Black Carrot Cake (S$3) for breakfast in Bugis. Carrot cake is one of my favourite hawker food, especially the black version. This stall's carrot cake is yummy, not too dry or too sweet and alot of eggs.

Not jian bo tiong bahru because we missed it as it is located at the corner of the hawker centre. The chye poh was a tad too oily and salty to my liking. Prefer the kueh to be softer than this.
