I'm finally here! I had wanted to try this Mediterranean restaurant since it opened in 2017. I don't like this bread type but the seasoning, with some visible salt, made it delicious. Excellent ambience and service.

3 dip platter ($21.90) + 2x pita ($2.90) 🥙 9/10

The dip platter includes taramasalata (cod roe), tzatziki, and hummus. I actually enjoyed this the most because of the fresh ingredients in the dips. I could eat this every day!

Kalamari ($22.90) 🦑 6/10

Looks good but it wasn't really battered to give it a satisfying crisp texture. Not that special in my opinion.

Meat platter ($97.90) 🍗 7/10

Don't get me wrong -- I really enjoyed the fabulously-cooked skewers and lamb chops. They were charred outside while pink and juicy inside!

But most of the meat platter was filler stuff like meatloaf (kebab), meatballs, and sausage, which made the the price tag seem more reasonable. I'd very much rather order a plate of souvlaki skewers next time, which would only go at $18.90.

Htapodi ($32.90) 🐙 8/10

Hands down one of the best octopus I've ever had in Singapore. The octopus was firm, juicy, and marinated in a sharp lemon sauce that surely helped to tenderise the flesh.

Moussaka ($25.90) 🥘 7/10

The eggplant was so thick it took up most of the dish while the sauce and cheese was just on top. Still quite a decent dish though.

Halloumi ($16.90) 🧀 7/10

I quite enjoyed this grilled cheese when I was in Greece but it carries quite a hefty price tag here.

Got the chicken gyros and omg the chicken was so juicy!

Dish contained fries and chicken kebab, with several pieces of pita bread at the bottom. At $23++, the serving was fairly decent. Fries were lightly salted, although they were a little soggy and could have been served warmer. The chicken was on the saltier end, although it was marinated well in herbs and spices, which added a nice sourish aftertaste to it. Bakalaki can be really crowded on Friday nights and weekends, so do make a reservation or go early!

The service here is impeccable. Throughout the meal, they were very attentive - water jug was replaced when it was empty without us asking, we didn’t have a hard time getting the attention of the servers, they even gave us dessert plates & cutlery and let us take out our own cakes. They even gave us complimentary dessert.

This is a Greek dessert of semolina custard baked in filo. Was pretty sweet, but not as sweet as baklava. The custard wasn’t very eggy tasting, and was quite pleasant. The phyllo sheet at the top was crisp. It’s a pretty interesting dessert, worth a try!

This was good too! The eggplant, potatoes and bechamel sauce came together nicely and was very tasty. They didn’t heavily season it, the natural flavours of the eggplant and potatoes were allowed to come through.

Can’t help but compare this to Blu Kouzina’s version, which had a strange aftertaste. Safe to say, I definitely enjoyed Bakalaki‘s rendition much more.
