More Reviews of good food at Chug Chug (Tanjong Pagar)

We used the Entertainer 1-for-1 deal and the bill was approx $18 per pax, so I would say it's rather worth it with the promo. Would probably come back again if there are future deals, or when I feel like treating myself 🤣

Loved the mala soft shell crab pasta, and I consider the dish a steal at the promo price!

The Chug Chug pasta was a seafood and roasted pork belly combi with salted egg sauce. Tasted pretty interesting , but gets gelat after a while.

Scallop mentaiko pasta was not bad, although I prefer other similar dishes at other restaurants.

Satay meat chunks were bigger than expected but meat was quite hard, took a while to chew and eat.

Photo opportunities are abundant on level 2 with its Retro whimsical design that reminded me of Alice in Wonderland.
Have fun dining and camwhoring! (:

Using the entertainer app, we got 1 for 1 mains for the Buttermilk Chicken Burger and the Black Angus Ribeye with Truffle Mash. Steak was really good including the sauce and mashed potato! Surprisingly the burger was really filling and the chicken meat was insanely big, I was already full halfway through the burger.

If you're not a fan of sitting outside and having to deal with the throng of passer-by streaming in and out of the walkway and inhaling smoke every 5 minutes, I'd suggest you to come a tad bit earlier than the dinner crowd or reserve a spot rather than walking in!

Total damage:
- Butter Milk Chicken Burger ($18)
- Black Angus Ribeye with Truffle Mash ($29.90)
- Draught Beers ($9) + ($10)

$27/pax, ☆☆☆☆

Chug's prime beef burger ($18.90+) was smaller than I expected, but is packed with good ingredients. The beef patty was juicy, & I especially enjoyed the cheese pairing the slightly creamy monterey jack with the sharpness of the aged cheddar. The layer of onion jam in between punctuated the burger with delightful sweetness, as did the arugula with it's herbal crunch. Shoestring fries were really good, too. Crispy, & the Taste of Potato really came through - just how I like my fries.

But would I come here again? Nope. I'm not a huge fan of waiting for almost forever. I'm sure there are lots who'd beg to differ - e.g. the boisterous young'uns I was surrounded with tonight.

Vongole ($18++) was on the slightly small side (portion-wise), but clams weren't sandy (yay) & there was loads of garlic. I'd be surprised if this messed up.

& the food at Chug Chug? Not half bad.

While not photogenic, I find the batter-fried oyster mushrooms with curry cream ($13++) fairly unique, though I'm not quite sure if we enjoyed it so much only because we were starving.

Oh, & it also took them 20 minutes to settle my bill. Internet problem, apparently. The waiter also keyed in my bill wrongly, without offsetting the $100 worth of Chope vouchers that I purchased. I spotted it immediately & he was apologetic. Rectified it eventually but yes, I reiterate, everything took way too long to happen today, & that's a huge turn off to me.

Btw, did you know that you can only redeem Chope points for a $10 off ChopeDeals voucher once a month? I hadn't noticed than in the T&Cs. Shame because my Chope$s are expiring in June, & their portfolio of rewards has been downsized so much that it isn't even attractive anymore.... Quite a shame. /endPSA

Do you miss KTVing too? If so, I highly recommend dining at Chug Chug because my dinner felt so much like 最长的电影 that I don't even miss KTV that much anymore.

Made a reservation on Chope. Unfortunately turned up early. Waited 10 mins past actual reservation time for the tables to be cleared on the 2nd floor. That's fine, especially when your premises are packed to the brim.

Sat down & ordered. Food took an absolute eternity to arrive, & was incredulously spaced out. Waited 20 mins for the first pasta dish to arrive. Then 10+ mins between everyone else's main course, & somewhere in between the appetiser was served. I felt so bad when the last main was served, because I'd suggested dining here.

To me, this is an unacceptable level of service. It didn't seem like they were short staffed, but being on the 2nd floor I didn't have visibility of the actual kitchen activities - so perhaps something messed up there.

Not sure if I’ve got the name of the dish right but this was yummy and more yummy!!! Finished every strand and every drop of that gravy (it didn’t get jelak at all which is very important to me when it comes to chilli crab sauce)!!! The prawns were big and fresh too. Couldn’t really spot any crab meat but sure.

That drink’s some yogurt soju alcohol thingy that was very delish and refreshing too. Will be back! Plus there’s 1 for 1 on Entertainer!!

Super love this Milkis Soju (we had green grape) and it was SO refreshing. Super love it, 10/10 would come back for this.

Space is a bit small, not sure if there’s a second level here.

We ordered Scallop Mentaiko pasta which came with a mountain of ebiko in a cream sauce pasta. Couldn’t really taste the mentaiko in the pasta, but scallop was soft and succulent. Only 3 scallops though 😕

Har Cheong Kai (6pcs $13) was hearty but more prawn paste could be used to have the additional flavour of the “Har Cheong” that we all crave for!

Crispy Mushrooms drenched in milk dressing and tossed in fried curry leaves and chilli padi. Unique dish and it tasted a bit like salted egg sauce. A must try.

Price:$13

Look at the heaps of mentaiko given. Simply amazing. Scallops were nicely grilled. Definitely worth the money!
Price:$20.

Mouth-watering plate of tom yum pasta! Tom yum was rich in taste and every strand of the linguine was coated with the yummy tom yum sauce.
Price:$16

Have always been a fan of CHUGCHUG but was there earlier this week and it seems like their standard dipped a little.

The sauce was slightly diluted.

Great food! We used the Chope Vouchers and its so worth it!

Fried buttermilk chicken thigh, pepper jack, sweet coleslaw, chipotle aioli and fries.

Love the Buttermilk Chicken Burger & the Prime Beef burger, Fried mushroom in curry cream & Spicy Thai Chicken Wings... Worth every single calories and its so satisfying! The ChugBeer is refreshing and great thirst-quencher ❤️

Comes with an iced tea. The dory fish is honestly quite good but a little too much batter imo. I enjoyed it a lot still. Would prefer if more tartar sauce is given. Fries were way too hard. Still a good choice for mealpal if you’re in the vicinity.
