Small seating area. Small menu. Large on smells.
Took about 15+ min for the Don to be served.
Steak was overdone for my liking. Would have preferred a medium rare doneness. Pork Belly was ok, good colour and texture. Egg didn't taste like it was marinated for long. Yolk was soft, but not the runny kind.
Portion size was just nice. Eat it. No regrats.
Interesting combination with the kimchi slices by the side but unfortunately the pork slices weren’t very fresh - the soft bones were too hard and not chewy, and the meat part quite dry. The sauce it was marinated in was nice though, would have gone well with the meat if it was fresher! You kind of pay for what you get.
If you’re at Westgate seeking for a more Budget option (below $10), do give kushiya a try! The chicken and vegetables in the bowl are charcoaled grilled and they’re really good. My favourite part of the bowl was really the vegetables, they were grilled so well and were so flavourful! The rice was definitely too bland and needed to be drowned in sauce but the rice of the bowl was fantastic for its price! There’s also free flow tea and while the service was a bit slow during dinner time, the workers were very friendly and even compensated my Friend with a skewer on the house when his rice came late because they ran out and had to cook more. I won’t be making special trips down to Jurong just for kushiya but if I’m there, it’ll definitely be one of my top choices for a more budget meal.

At $8.90, i feel this dish is mediocre.
Pork belly and egg taste bland. The pork belly doesn’t melt in my mouth.
Flavourful and tender inner with some charred corners.
Chicken Leg Don. $6.90
With some leeks, grilled to the softest and addictive teriyaki sauce glaze. Accompanied with lettuce, seaweed, some kimchi (spicy kicks are so refreshing) and medium-well hard boiled egg. It’s a relatively sinful with a healthy touch. Definitely satisfying! #burpple #burpplefood #burpplesg #japanesedon #comfortfoodsg #feedmefood2018 #japanesericebowl
Shop Name: Kushiya
Location: Westgate B2-K4
Food Ordered: Kimchi Sliced Pork Don
Price: $6.80
Verdict: Pork slices slightly overcooked, a bit hard to chew. Would have been better if it was served piping hot.
Return?: I will give this one more chance.
Shop Name: Kushiya
Location: Westgate B2-K4
Food Ordered: Premium Steak Don
Price: $10.80
Verdict: The beef was nicely grilled given the size of the shop and although it was not the freshest. The rice was well done too making it tasty with all the sides and mains.
Return?: Yes cos cheap and good
If I'm still working at jurong, I would probably come here for meals frequently.
A lil too chewy for my liking. Otherwise it's pretty decent and friendly on the wallet:)
Kushiya is a Japanese style charcoal grilled skewers and donburi food kiosk, which offer a range of Japanese rice bowls. The meat are grilled on charcoal upon orders, in order to bring out the smokey flavors of the meat then drizzled with homemade kimchi and savoury sauce. The Salmon Don is really amazing.
Finally tried this shoebox sized Kushiya, where they have a selection of grilled meat donburi. Had the premium steak don $10.90, well marinated medium rare steak topped with onsen egg and kimchi. And free flow brown rice barley tea. Awesome quick meal 👍🏼
I had salmon belly rice (S$10.80) and baby had Premium Steak rice (S$10.80). Whilst my salmon was tender, it has lots of fine bones. Baby's steak was tender and quite good according to him.
The best ever grilled cuttlefish that I have ever tried locate at the basement of Westgate. It is freshly grilled full with Kushiya sauce and charge only 6 dollar.
Have tried this grilled Saba Don at kushiya@West gate. It is freshly grilled taken and grilled with kushiya sauce. The fish is tendered, juicy and with a smoky fragrance. You won't get this taste anywhere else. The crunchy kimchi strike a balance who really don't like a grilled food.
This is really value-for-money! A Japanese grill stall located at the basement at Westgate where most takeaway food stalls are, they have seats for dine-in customers who perhaps fancy a don for lunch. The Premium Steak Don may not be using a steak of a very good cut, but it still works out pretty well here given this only costs $10.80 with a drink on the side. Sitting atop a bed of rice that is drizzled with savoury sauce, the beef is done medium-rare and came with a pinkish centre with texture that's pretty melt yet carried a very smoky charred flavour that makes it so so satisfying. While the egg isn't particularly wonderful, it is a good side that comes default with the Don. I like the addition of kimchi here, which adds a refreshing crunch to the Don.
A small jap charcoal grills and don. The salmon don was so so, the ramen egg was well done. Cuttlefish ($6+) was very aromatic and lady finger and mushroom ($2+/ stick) are too. Only thing is they are petite size for the price they charging. The seatings not suitable for long legs owners. 😉 #sgfood #opensnap #burpple
