Came on Sunday late morning and found out their signature mee pok and mee kia already no more. Since already here so no choice to forget with other type of noodles instead.
Went with the simple and small portion in dry version. Topped with mushroom and minced meat.
Expect a wait at this popular Toa Payoh minced meat noodle store. Only one item on the menu with choice of dry/soup and various noodles. Their meekia was firm and springy, and remained aldente even at the end. Bee tai mak was QQ and with an enjoyable chew. The ingredients were quite standard fare but well-executed with tender pig liver, minced pork, beansprouts, and juicy braised mushrooms.
The sauce was on the thinner side and didnโt coat the noodles well, resulting in initial bites to be on the dry and bland side despite adequate mixing. Would recommend adding in some soup and allowing time (~10 minutes) for the noodles to soak up the saucey blend of fried lard, spicy chili, and tangy vinegar for truly hearty and slurp-worthy bites. Might be back to try their soup version next time!

Stall was out of mee kia and mee pok so we went for mixed yellow noodle and bee hoon. Nice taste, it was vinegary and flavorful but overall pretty average IMO.
Operating in the Toa Payoh area since 1985, @laihengmmmm arguably serves the best BCM in TPY, and some say Singapore too!๐
BTW this is their SGD5 chilli dry kway teow mee option, which can be quite spicy IMO. And please donโt purposely travel all the way down just to try thisโฆ๐

This popular stall draws a constant queue throughout the day. Known for its reliably decent and consistent bak chor mee, I queued 20 minutes for this.
.
Their soup is clear and light, but I prefer their gravy which is balanced with savoury sour spicy notes.
.
Love that the mee pok / wide flat egg noodles were al-dente with a light chew. The pork slices and minced pork are fresh with meaty sweet savoury flavour, the braised mushrooms lending a salty earthy savoury contrast.
.
Big flavour from the crisp pork lard. A comforting and satisfying bowl, among the better renditions in the area.

Delectable Kway Teow Soup, big portion of $6 with abalone slices.
We liked the clear broth.
Yummy!
Always a fan of their noodles. If you want meepok or meekia, be sure to head down early! Also, be prepared to wait because the queue can be long sometimes!
We always order extra soup! Thereโs minced meat, mock abalone, seaweed, bean sprout etc in the soup!
Pressed for time but being a foodie we are quite picky what to takeaway! ๐ (Didnโt know that some wait quite long for this stall). Just know that they are famous in Toa Payoh and moved from Lor 6 to Lor 4. We went ahead at 12.20 pm and the lady at the stall switched from โLai Laiโ to โno more mee pok & mee Kiaโ ๐
.
We ordered $5 | dry | yellow noodle| container takeaway (opt out plastic). We got the paper queue number and checked at the electronic board (got our order in just 7 mins).๐
.
When we open the box, we are very pleased to see lots of ingredients (sliced pork, mince pork, liver and 2 pcs of abalone, bean sprouts ). Quite perplexed that we got both yellow noodle + Kway Teow.๐
.
The chilli & vinegar coat the noodle well with some lard traces. We enjoy their mixed bundle braised mushroom flavor & texture esp. abalone (only wish they have some greens) to make us feel healthier!! ๐ช๐๐ช

There is dry and soup version. I prefer the dry version as I enjoy the springy noodles with delicious chilli sauce and vinegar gravy. Sometime I order Mee Pok or Kway tiao and yellow Noodles. Depend on my mood. They will add toppings like braised mushroom, minced pork and pork lard. Yum yum. Believe it or not whenever I am overseas, the dish I miss most is actually this simple local dish - Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles!
.
Featuring Lai Heng Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles ($4/$5/$6)
from Toa Payoh. We ordered $5. It also includes abalone slices and pig liver slices. The tender abalone and its fragrance brings up the mushroom minced meat noodles to the next level. The mushrooms were tender. Ingredients were fresh and the noodles were well mixed with the flavorful chilli sauce. Yum yum. Try it when you are in the area. Be warned they often have long waiting time. Some people wait for an hour. I was lucky to just wait for 15 minutes. They will give you a queue number and you will just wait for your number to be called. So not too bad. You can sit and enjoy your drink while waiting.

This stall has a good queue system. You order, pay, take a queue number tag and sit anywhere in the coffee and collect when you see your queue number flashed. No standing to queue! The noodle is cooked well not sticking together and the ingredients are fresh and chilli sauce was well mixed in the noodles. Overall itโs a good BCM.
Mushroom Bak Chor Mee
Almost an hour wait on a weekday morning. It's good, love their spicy chilli sauce tossed with the springy noodles.
2nd day and besides being at a different location, everything else remained.
Taste was still as great; but queue still as long too. As expected, our wait was approximately an hour today. Good thing was there were many other stalls to get some other food while waiting, the fried carrot cake and crispy roasted pork were not bad.
Noticed that more people ordered the dry version here, while we still preferred this soup Kueh Teow.
Finally tried this supposed legend. Overall, it's good, but there's not much to talk about. Comes with the shellfish commonly mistaken as abalone. Practically zero lard. Soup had deep porky flavour though. Heard from another table their cook has changed - take that how you wish.
Good BCM with springy noodles, fresh minced pork and liver, and delicious sauce. They have both the soup and dry versions, but I am a fan of dry BCM!
Serious M-M-M when eating, this $6.00 is value for money on ingredients and enjoyment. Treat for minced meat mee lovers. Mushrooms is soft, liver is just pink enough and noodles is very satisfactory.
Breakfast today was an absolutely old school BCM located at the same Kopitiam as Uno Beef House. Long queue for it and almost every table was seen having their Kueh Teow soup.
We loved its old school taste and simplicity of BCM. The crispy pork lard and chopped chilli were highly recommended to add to the satisfaction. Between noodles and Kueh Teow, the silky smooth texture of the latter was evident why it was more popular. Only "complaint", a few fishball / meatball or fish ravioli would make this so wholesome.
In my humble opinion , Lai Heng is better than tai Hwa. The soup got a porky taste. Nice.
