This old school bak kut teh can found in this very nostalgic coffee shop at the corner along Balestier Road. Open early morning till late night.
For an individual portion, it comes with just 3 pieces of pork meat. And the meat was too soft and lean for me. But the peppery soup still excellent and you can ask for refill.
It's a bkt joint yes, but they justified calling this signature. Not only was the lean meat tender and ample, the fats were shiok without being overly fatty. It achieved a perfect balance of lean and fatty.
The eponymous bowl, because it lets you have both the normal ribs and the premium loin ribs. To their credit, all cuts were good. I can't judge the soup because to me all bkt are the same. But I appreciate that here they proactively top up for you, unlike some places.
My experience with Founder’s can very much be described as confusing. The dishes there feel almost as thought it was lacking something, which made the meal pretty unsatisfying. Ordered both the Premium Ribs & Premium Short Ribs to see which would’ve been more tender, but both were almost equally tough. While I like my soup peppery, this was somewhat in the middle of peppery and herbal, yet, it lacked a distinct character of Bak Kut Teh, almost amounting to a type of blandness. The tau pok was missing a distinct braised flavour, and the you tiao was not fresh and hot at all. Not sure if it’s just the branch, but I did think that the pork here had a much stronger gamy taste and pungent smell.

Balestier Road is the Bak Kut Teh capital of Singapore. This whole stretch of road consist of up to 4-5 popular Bak Kut Teh Stores.
Balestier Road BKT has been around since 1966, and apparently, they stay true to their roots and uses sugarcane to prepare their BKT soup. As Balestier Road used to be a sugarcane plantation.
The Premium Pork Ribs meat was tender and easily slides off the bone. Goes very well with its chilli padi, garlic, dark sauce "dip"
The soup was slightly peppery and flavourful. Of coz free top up of soup is avaliable here. Could taste any sugarcane though.

A bowl of fatty ribs with rice at $7. I prefer white pepper soup so this stall is like my family preferred stall for 3 decades plus.
I feedback once the portions greatly reduced couple years back and now there's improvement.
Sometimes I will have 1 more bowl of kidney. Humble stall which feels at home
Can't go wrong.

Long hours stewed & cooked pig trotters, soft texture of meat and almost melt in the mouth pork fat.
Served with some savoury preserved vegetables.
Comforting food indeed.

To be honest, I am never a fan of Teochew Bak Kut Teh for their soups are peppery. Nevertheless, I must agree that this soup has a very well balanced taste without being overly peppery. A handful of vegetables were included too.
The meat was tender and succulent, falling off from the bones easily without too much effort. Although I'm ordering this plain without rice, the uncle allows me to refill the soup and asked if that was enough.
Just like the social media stated, the service rendered is pleasant. I hope to make a return in an empty stomach for their other items in the menu.
We got the Braised Pork ($6) as well, similarly the portion was small, but the meat was so tender, you probably don't need to bite into this. The braised stock was also good, aromatic and not too salty. Rice will be a wonderful complement!
If I am around the area working, I do see myself coming here for lunch!
