The Pumpkin Risotto ($25) is surprisingly good. The creamy pumpkin risotto goes well with charred brussel sprouts. This is sweet, savoury and delicious!
I actually have not tried Texan BBQ before and decided to have my first attempt at the popular @kemuribbq.sg and it was decent!
We ordered the Dino Trio Platter ($75), which comes with 2 beef options and 1 other meat which you can choose. The beef brisket had a pretty outstanding smoke ring, which was this smoky crust that was well seasoned. The leaner part of the beef brisket can be slightly dry, but that can be helped with their homemade mustard and BBQ sauce.
Now their Dino Ribs is what I will come back for. The smoke ring on this is much more prominent, and the whole meat was very tender. This was very well seasoned with spices, in fact better than their beef brisket.
The pulled pork was the other meat option we chose, and it can be relatively dry, though the flavour was good.
We ordered additional items, such as their Australian Picanha ($30) which was a popular item. Due to the cut of the meat, it was quite tough and chewy naturally, but the chef did a good job with the seasoning. Mash was creamy and rich, and brussel sprouts were done well. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the appeal of a rump steak as I liked a cut that is softer.
Truffle fries ($12) were crispy and fluffy, quite decent.
I think Kemuri BBQ is quite decent for their meats, though most were not particularly mind-blowing to me. Not sure if it's because it's my first time, or because I have had high expectations from the videos I've seen of Texas BBQ 😂
From Kemuri BBQ lunch
We tried the Smoked Duck Don at a Tex-Jap BBQ place, and it was a delightful fusion of flavors.
The tender, smoky duck paired beautifully with the creamy onsen egg, adding richness to each bite.
The julienne pickled daikon provided a refreshing crunch that balanced well with the tangy kimchi and sweet corn.
As part of a set, it also came with a buckwheat tea and purple slaw, making for a satisfying and well-rounded meal.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience an innovative twist on traditional Japanese cuisine!
Set : $20.90++
I also liked the miso mayonnaise sauce which Inochi provided as a dip with its tori karage.
I was kinda expecting a salty savoury flavour. Instead, their miso had a deep savoury and earthy flavour which was well balanced by the light creamy sweetness of the mayonnaise. It's very different but worked unexpectedly well.
Likewise, Inochi does their salmon mentaiko do well! They use a rather thick cut of salmon fillet which ensures that the fish does not dry out easily during the pan-frying process, remaining moist, flaky and subtly sweet.
We like that their mentaiko sauce was not overwhelming salty and savoury. We love mentaiko sauce but it sometimes can seem as with we are having mentaiko sauce over rice as you could hardly taste anything else in the dish. Inochi's however are always well balanced with notes of sweet, savoury and creamy richness.
I am a big fan of Inochi's sashimi offerings but their other donburis are actually quite good.
Their chicken katsu don comes topped with scrambled eggs, onions and chicken Katsu. Their chicken katsu is breaded with the same breaded batter used for their calamari rings so it remains shattering crisp after some time. Its also a matter of personal preference but I like that Inochi cooks their katsu separate from their scrambled eggs to avoid a soggy and 'wet' katsu.
I do still prefer their sashimi options though!
Besides the donburis, Inochi also serves sushi rolls.
We quite enjoyed their tuna avocado roll. The tuna sashimi was fresh and the avocado subtly rich and creamy.
Inochi has since rebranded itself as Yoshiya and purports to to serve Japanese food with a twist of Singaporean flavours. I am not too sure what the changes are but will definitely drop by to check them out!
We usually hit Inochi for dinner by which they usually run out of their marinated egg yolk for their bara chirashi dons.
No, it's not the same as salted egg yolk which has a crumbly and grainy texture due to the presence of salt and the dehydration process. Marinated (or cured) egg yolks have a creamier, firmer and denser texture.
You don't usually find it over sashimi or sushi but it's great with just plain rice with a dash of vinegar. I thought it went great with the vinegary sushi rice but it kinda overpowered the subtle natural sweetness of the sashimi!
If given a choice, I would have the usual tamago instead!
Doggo and I were stuck on a huge downpour and were lucky to stumble on this newly opened Japanese yakitori that just happens to be dog-friendly outdoors! The server was incredibly kind and friendly to my dog, they said they often have big dogs there too!
The garlic fried rice was fragrant and well-done and a small eater mains portion. They served me a freebie of fried banana while I waited. Just happened to be craving cod that day so it was amazing they had it. The size turned out to be a small appetizer size but on hindsight I should’ve expected it given the price. Cod is never cheap! The vegetable tempura was also lovely and they had a number of draughts on tap. Just so so glad to have another dog- friendly option in the neighbourhood. We all know how rare truly dog- friendly places are!
