Part of lunch course for 2 pax ($38++). The bowls were nothing to shout about. Quite filling by the time the rice bowls arrived. On hindsight, should have ordered the cold soba/udon instead
Part of lunch course for 2 pax ($38++). This was a great choice. Chicken was juicy and the egg salad (though quite little) was well done. Wiped the plate clean
Part of the lunch course for 2 pax ($38++). The salmon was way too saltish and very much preferred the kelp. Should have kept the salt to the minimum and let the salmon meat shine through.
Part of the lunch course for 2 pax ($38++). This is honestly hands down the star of the whole meal. Beef was tender and the pork belly was juicy. Place a bit of wasabi onto the meat and you are on the way to pure bliss. The wasabi is also of great quality especially when you don't feel that qiang feeling that goes straight to the head. Good stuff.
Part of the lunch course for 2 pax ($38++). The chawanmushi portion was so tiny but so good! They did the egg justice. Wish that it was 3x the size so that I could enjoy more of it. The green tea deserves praise as well when you can smell and taste the roasted-ness.
This pork wasn't just the best thing here, it's one of the greatest pork I've eaten. They use Yongenton pork. Whatever that is, it's my new favourite. It wasn't just the smokiness, it's also very pungent, which is how I like my pig. Fyi the hot plate is hot enough to continue cooking so watch your beef. However I didn't notice a difference between the rare and the done. In fact the beef was ordinary.
The worst. As you can tell, there's barely any egg and there's no effort preparing it together with the chicken like good oyako dons. This was a scam.
Classic Japanese fried chicken - light and clean. There wasn't really tartar though - that blob is potato salad. Portion quite small too.
Breaded chicken topped with grated yam and vegetables in hot pot
The whole dish was very comforting and tasty! I actually finished the whole soup!
Veggies include some carrots, potato, horenzo, onions. I added a Gokoku (multigrain) rice for ($2)
I do expect better chicken-batter ratio coming from Ootoya. Btw I also expected chicken breast but I think this one is a matter of personal preference.
I came during lunch time and it took quite long for my meal to come. It was quite busy but I do think service can be better

Ordered this cold side dish thinking the vegetables will come with the usual sesame Japanese salad dressing.
Instead, it came with a black sesame dressing. More sweet than savoury.
If you like cold, sweet spinach, you can give this dish a go.

The pork cutlet was breaded and deep-fried to golden perfection.
It was crispy on the outside, yet tender, moist and meaty on the inside!
Also, I'm glad the sweet and savoury miso-based sauce wasn't drizzled onto the meat. I always preferred it to be served separately.

No crowd; don't need to queue.
Ootoya has never disappointed in terms of taste and quality of food served.
Chicken was well-marinated and quite evenly grilled on the charcoal. It was juicy with bits of nice charred marks, and it had a smoky char flavour.
The set came with rice, miso soup, chawanmushi, pickles and an appetizer. The accompanying soup, chawanmushi etc were all very small.
Rice was shiny, fluffy, and had a sticky texture typical of polished, short-grained Japanese rice. Delicious!
Without a doubt the worst chirashi don I've ever had. With such a hefty price and so many cheaper chirashi dons from other places, I completely regretted ordering this once I saw it.
Nevermind that it looked like the chef just dumped all the ingredients on the rice without a second thought. The fish was completely unmarinated, bland and even served at a slightly lukewarm termperature. It also was not fresh at all and sadly my stomach ached after. (But not as much as my wallet.)
The portion size was also incredibly small for the ridiculous price. There were so few cubes of sashimi and the chirashi mostly consisted of just a lot of tamago (some of which weren't even properly sliced, like the fish), cucumbers and prawns, which clearly does not justify the $20 price tag. Even all the other dishes that my family tried were expensive for the small portion size.
Ootoya is completely not worth going to.

I believed that they pan fried one side and finished in a boiler. There was only one bone at the centre, removed it and you will leave with a boneless fillet. When I picked up the meat, some of its juice been collected on the skin.
If you are afraid of the fishy taste, just eat it with their grinned radish.
Their set meal came with four sides (chawanmushi, rice, miso soup and salad), top up once for free. .

Grilled Pork Loin
The red hot grill seared the surface of the loin and finished with a pinch of salt. The intense high heat sealed up all its lovely juice and still remained soft and tender! .

Extremely impressed by the amazing texture and done-ness of the salmon!!! Smoother (than usual) chunks of salmon meat from this well grilled salmon head yumz at 11$+ I'm sold! Paired this with an order of their handmade cold soba, the refreshing noodles had differing thickness to substantiate the handmade claim! My family and I absolutely love the grilled meat here, Ootoya you've just gain another loyal customer!
