Quality Café serves up no-frills comfort food in an unpretentious and convivial ambience. The Taiwanese Porridge dinner and supper (yes you heard it) buffet has a small, but hearty, variety of perennial favourites and Taiwan porridge served with a range of condiments.

Porridge may be a simple dish made with just rice and water, but we all know that the simpler the dish, the more difficult it is to cook it well, and I must say that they did it almost flawlessly. The grains were cooked till slippery and soft, but not to the point of disintegration and being all mushy or watery.

The ~10 other main dishes, although tasty on their own, weren't exactly the side dishes you commonly see in a traditional Taiwan porridge meal; they were more like dishes to suit the diverse palate. Nonetheless, some of the dishes worth mentioning are the chicken satay, braised duck, chicken curry, popiah, and nonya kuehs (:

Do take note that their porridge buffet is only available on weekends from now onwards!

This popiah came by as a surprise because how many buffets actually have popiahs as one of their selections???

• Pay one buffet price and get UNLIMITED AMOUNTS of it
• Thin, chewy skin
• Tender, flavourful turnips in generous amounts
• Good crunch from the crispy bits
• Sweet sauce was only drizzled over the toppings at the end instead of smearing over the skin at the start, hence the skin wasn't soaked through nor turn soggy
• Tightly wrapped so nothing falls out 👍

• Can only sink your teeth into this if you pay for their porridge buffet

Verdict: 4.5/5

Spread was just decent with the usual stuff one would expect for porridge. They had a laksa station that outshone the latter though. Overall a comfortable place for catch-up with friends over supper while amusing ourselves with the adjacent live band performance that made our jaws dropped.

Maybe we have been pampered by my FIL homecook meals, we were disappointed with the buffet🙄The sweet potato was not soft enough to our liking. The squid & clams were ok but they were served cold😐Being chinese, we still prefer our food to be piping hot. Chicken & duck were tender. Laksa was so so. Only saving grace was the popiah, indeed yummy! Desserts were average but the fruits were not sweet. Overall, this place is not worth wasting your calories on 😕

A line forms outside Quality Hotel Marlow's Quality Cafe as early as 10pm for their Supper Buffet (available 10:30pm to 12:30am daily). At $14.80/pax, we can understand why! You’ll get to enjoy a spread of porridge dishes, yong tau foo, laksa and char kway teow. Crowd favourites like the fresh fish and steamed squid go fast and will be replaced with fried items, so make sure you’re quick on your feet if you enjoy those! With a laid-back atmosphere and warm comfort food, it’s no wonder it attracts an eclectic crowd of families, old friends and couples. Speaking of atmosphere, you'll also be entertained (whether you like it or not) by the live band next door belting out heartfelt renditions of old tunes and trendy pop songs, complete with synchronised dancing.

More than just porridge, Quality Cafe offers a quality (huehue🙃) buffet for value seeking supper seekers. From 10:30pm to 12:30am, they offer a decent spread of items with pretty tasty dishes like Laksa, Curry Chicken and YFT.

At 10pm, people were already clustered around the entrance waiting for entry although getting a seat wasn't a problem for us. If you're kiasu and want to come early, don't worry as there's plenty of entertainment from the bar next door! Contrary to the opinion here, we quite enjoyed the synchronized dancing and singing streaming over. 👯👯👯
