More Reviews of good food at Tokyo Sundubu (Raffles City)

Not the first time Iโ€™ve had their sundubu, but first time on miso base and with asari clams. Miso base was a bit salty for me but goes well with rice & beer. I wish i ordered something else other than clams tho, the meat was too small snd all the broken shells in soup was not quite worth the trouble ๐Ÿคฃ. Unfortunately it doesnโ€™t best my current fave soondubu which is just $8

- I enjoyed the Japanese twist to the classic Korean dish with the addition of miso for a richer and thicker flavour ๐Ÿ˜‹
- Variety of ingredients with silky soft tofu which was my favourite, prawns, clams, chicken, spring onions, egg and corn!!
- Short-grain Japanese rice was plump, slightly sweet and chewy but not too sticky or moist, I usually leave my plain rice at the end but I finished this ๐Ÿš
- Carrots and cabbage sides were peppery fragrant and crunchy! [8/10]

- Some edges of the korean pancake were a bit charred and hard.
- Very crispy and crunchy outsides but quite oily.
- Mostly potatoes, was expecting melty cheesiness but itโ€™s almost absent ๐Ÿฅฒ [5.5/10]

Ordered chicken vege sundubu $16++ and you can choose your soup base (salt and ginger / miso / non-spicy) and spicy level. I had miso less spicy and it was good ๐Ÿ˜‹ It comes with 2 clams as well. I liked this more than sbdc as sbdc is q ex and thereโ€™s more seasoning and less soup. Would come back again

$16 before svc charge gst, comes with rice and some small side dishes. Tofu is very silky and goes well with the stew. Ordered level 3 spiciness (out of 4) and they called it โ€˜Singaporean standardโ€™ (level 2 is โ€˜Japanese standard) but it felt like a normal budae jiggae spiciness level to me

This Basic + 3 kinds of mushroom Sundubu was delightful; exactly the kind of hot soupy goodness that acts as comfort food on a cold night. I opted for the Japanese spiciness (Level 2), which was just nice for me because I didnโ€™t want an overly spicy meal. My tolerance for spiciness is quite low!

The soup went very well with the rice, as well as the tofu. Will try the pork gyoza version the next time! Just to note, itโ€™s slightly on the pricey side and the portion is just nice for one person (maybe too little for a big eater though), but still worth another visit :-)

Beef and veg sundubu ($19++)

Can choose the base and level of spiciness. Picked level 2 and miso base. The mix was just nice for me. Liked the combination of beef shabu slices with veg like cabbage and corn. Overall not cheap but taste wise one of the best korean tofu soup around!

Got the Mushroom Sundubu, and it came with 2 clams and a tiny prawn. Chose the Salt & Ginger soup base (which had no discernible ginger taste at all), and the Japan standard spiciness. Was a tasty meal, but pricey for the portion sizes. The bowl of rice that came with the stew was half a bowl at best.

On rainy days don't you just crave for a stew served in hot stone pot? The extensive menu at Tokyo Sundubu offers a wide variety of sundubus from seafood, meat to vegetable.

Sundubu is a delicious and nutritious tofu stew, so soft and silky that you can literally slurp up. Choose your flavour on top of the basic stew that already has vegetables, clams, chicken in it. I had the 5 vegetables which are sweet corn, bamboo shoots, lotus roots, cabbage and okra, that enhanced the sweetness of the soup. The bright red colour of the stew, due to the capsaicin from the red pepper seasoning of the soup base, looked intimidating but it definitely was appetizing as it bubbles so vigorous when served. Also it's topped with a raw egg. Capsaicin is actually nutritious as it enhances metabolism.

Get to customize the soup base in the way you want it; Japanese miso, non-spicy or salt and ginger, which was the one I had, but I couldn't really taste any ginger flavour, as the seasoning of the soup itself was too strong. You could also choose the level of spiciness, I had the singapore standard at level 3 out of 4, but still rather manageable for someone who doesn't really take spiciness that well. There's also instructions to teach you how to eat it in the correct way with the namuru (side vegetable dish)!

This is one comfort food that Iโ€™ll never get sick of ๐Ÿ˜‰
Stirring in the egg & blending the healthy sundubu with the tasty salt & ginger soup base. This time round I ordered the Chicken Sundubu ($14) at level 2 spiciness. The Dak Galbi ($12) was yummy too ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป #burpple

Lunch / 6 Feb 2018: Newfound comfort food - Korean stew with homemade tofu and tons of ingredients (veg, chicken and collagen for this dish).

This place comes with 32 different variety of stew with 3 different soup base and 4 adjustable spicy levels, and has good sides (at least the edamame chijimi we ordered was pretty yummy!)

You get to choose the level of spiciness but the standard "Japanese level" was good enough for me.

Rich flavors made even tastier with the addition of a frozen collagen ball, definitely worth going for if you're in the area.

This hot side dish was surprisingly tasty๐Ÿ˜‹The chicken was tender & the rice cake was soft๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป My 3rd visit back to this place and the hotpot soontufu indeed never disappoint me ๐Ÿ˜˜The seafood miso soup base plus the thinly sliced beef was still my most beloved choice๐Ÿ‘๐ŸปIt was so sweet & rich๐Ÿค—
2nd visit for my younger daughter & she too couldn't stop expressing how yummy the tofu soup wasโœŒ๐Ÿป
1st visit for my hubby and yes, he enjoyed his tofu soup so much that not even a tiny droplet of it was spared ๐Ÿ˜
Our verdict: the soontufu here is so so so much better & yummier than the other competitive tofu house located in Tanjong Pagar๐Ÿ˜œ
We were so eager to savor the tofu that I forgot to take photos of the soup๐Ÿ˜ฑ
Fortunately I did post about the tofu soup in my previous visits๐Ÿ˜€
Just come & try it for yourself ๐Ÿ˜

This Korean stew with a Japanese twist not just enhances your health but also your beauty. The silky soft tofu is high in protein, low in calorie, rich in soy isoflavones stewed in collagen rich soup. The delicious basic soup seasoned with Tategi comes with shrimps, asari clams, tofu, semi raw egg and meat or seafood of your choice. There're 3 options of soup base: Salt & Ginger (my choice), Japanese Miso or Non Spicy. Level of spiciness can go up to 6 but I'm perfectly happy at level 3. Those who know me will know that I'm totally not a fan of tofu. This tofu however wowed me as it was indeed superbly soft without the 'bean' taste. And I super love the rich & thick soup base. Once in a while having this tofu is definitely fine with me for the sake of the capsaicin and collagen ๐Ÿ˜‹

With 24 variations of sundubu (traditional Korean stew with tofu, egg, seafood and spring onion), the first Tokyo Sundubu outlet from Japan is the place to go with your female lunch kakis, especially on a rainy afternoon. Choose from three different soup bases and four levels of spiciness before selecting the type of stew โ€” options include tomato sundubu and miso sundubu. While many places pre-slice the tofu, the slabs here are left intact, so you can mash it to your desired consistency. Try the Health & Beauty Sundubu ($18), served with chicken, lady's fingers and a scoop of collagen for a midday complexion boost!
Avg price: $20 per person

Here's a bowl of authentic sundubu stew (traditional Korean tofu stew) that will warm you up from the inside out on a rainy day! Love how tasty the soup is (not diluted at all) and the big slab of wobbly tofu that you can mash up to your desired size. You can choose the level of spice you want (level 1-3 is made with chilli powder, level 4 is made with fresh chilli) as well as the base of the soup (salt and ginger, Japanese miso or non-spicy). Lots of seafood in this too, there are Japanese oysters, Hokkaido scallops, soft shell prawns, baby squids and even a flower crab! YUM!
