This is the most ridiculous thing here. One squid for 40bucks???

No doubt well cooked, the texture was slightly chewy but not as good as the atas restaurants(and even they sell at a lower price). The peanutty sauce was decent and unique too

But for 40bucks, steer clear

Overall this place is not special enough to visit, not at this price at least

It's got a darker taste than the normal rendang we are used to, and the colour reflects that. The spices were also not exactly the same, but the mutton was somewhat dry and tough

Not the best

Ckn was tender, the spices used were quite complex and not exactly anything I've had before.

However it really doesn't matter if it's put on a skewer or not, its not really a satay anymore because of how thick the ckn pieces were

Soft and medium bodied, not bad. Feeds 3

There's this strong spice which was very familiar, and the crispy fried onions were nice too

We had an enjoyable dinner here last week, where we tried out a few of their signature dishes!

Iโ€™m not exaggerating when I say that each dish was great and exceeded our expectations! From the fork-tender Beef Redang, to the Cumi Bali (charcoal-grilled squid) that was well-grilled and so tender, the Ayam Sate Madura that blew our minds (or rather tastebuds) with its flavour, and the comforting taste of the Sayur Lodeh, everything was on point! We paired all these dishes nasi padang-style with yellow rice and their signature sambal belacan that was shiok and fiery! Had to wash all that down with a Fresh Coconut and Lime Juice!

We definitely recommend this place if you are looking for an Indonesian restaurant in the CBD area. The prices are slightly steep, but the food is definitely worth the money for its quality!

This is the place to visit if youโ€™re missing Bali!

Be transported to Bali as you step into @cumibalisg , letting the Indon artefacts decorating the interiors and the walls slowly set you in. A family-friendly restaurant, the dishes served at @cumibalisg are unpretentious and simple, yet fresh and delicious with no oil being used at all.

At first glance, the price tag may scare you off, but once you have a taste of their food, youโ€™ll consider making a return visit despite the price tag. The food served here tasted really fresh, delicious and of quality. I tried the following:

Light, cooling and super refreshing. The coconuts were meaty with lots of fresh coconut juice!

@cumibalisg has a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. I wouldnโ€™t think twice about recommending this spot to anyone whoโ€™s on a hunt for tasty Indonesian food๐ŸŒŸ!

Charcoal-Grilled Squid. Covered in a homemade sauce thatโ€™s flavorful, savoury and nutty, the squid was grilled perfectly. The sweetness and freshness of the squid really shines through!

Signature wrapping fish lavished with 18 spices and top-grilled to perfection. This is essentially a whole fish bbq-ed in an otah paste. While the fish tasted super fresh, I was hoping for a stronger flavor from the otah paste.

Had the 12 spice otah and skewers. Veg was nice to complement the others. Pity the famous squid was out of stock so must order in advance!

Essentially ayam penyet chicken - inclusive of them essential deep fried bits - filtered through a popcorn chicken blender. 3.7/5

Essentially a formidable meat rod with a seductively sweet smear of sauce over every inch of its smokily roasty and monstrous being. A great value option at the occasionally pricey but exceptional Indonesian restaurant. 4/5

Essentially slices of quiveringly submissive squid slathered with a vindictive, slow-burn Indonesian volcanic chilli. 4/5

The dishes we ordered were pretty decent, coupled with the lady bossโ€™s passionate outcry of her fresh ingredients and sedap-ness of dishes.
Unfortunately, when it came to this last dish, Assam Fish Head ($38), every family member of mine thought that the Snapper was not fresh at all and the sauce is utterly weird... When we feedback to the lady boss, she got really defensive and brought a RAW โ€œfreshโ€ fish out of the kitchen, with a knife and place on our table to prove her point. Hmm... pretty scary
And itโ€™s PRICEY, seriously, $289 for 7 dishes...

True to balinese traditions, all spices are prepared fresh which allows them to avoid the use of oil. You can definitely taste it in the dishes. Oil is also not used during the cooking process, except for dishes like Bergadil where frying is inevitable. .
๐Ÿด
Cumi Bali($28) is squid marinated in their special herbs and spices and BBQed. The result is a chewy, flavourful squid. Their squids are fresh from Malaysia everyday, if not it will lose water content and start shrinking. When you order this dish, you literally get the whole squid, where the tentacles are sliced off and stuffed into the squid. .
๐Ÿด
Sate Madura ($9) is a chicken skewer satay thats marinated with 16 spices and grilled over charcoal. It reminded me of ayam bakar but even more flavourful. Dip it with their fresh chilli sauce for extra punch!
.
๐Ÿด
Bergadil ($3/each). The batter is kept thin and it is almost not oily at all. (Unlike bergadils from some malay stores..) Potato is mixed with spices for the right touch. .

Cumi Bali Indonesian Restaurant might be drowned in the stretch of korean restaurants along Tanjong Pagar. But I definitely appreciate how they try to preserve the principle behind providing food thats prepped the same way it was done in the past even though it is very tedious. Their work starts early due to the preparation of herbs and spices daily. Everything is hand pounded with love and you really do taste it from the food. Everyone else would have charged exhorbitant price for the amount of work they put in but Cumi Bali Indonesian Restaurant kept their prices reasonable for the past 9 years they have been operating. .

Thank you @joshuabalicons for hosting us!

Less commonly found, this Indonesian-style Sate Madura ($9 per stick) promises big chunks of super satisfying, tender chicken slicked in a sticky kecap manis glaze. Yes it's pricey, but so, so yummy.

Next time you're craving for Indonesian food, rally the troops and head to Cumi Bali. You'll probably need at least four buddies just to cover some of the signatures.

In addition to the Sate Madura and Sapi Rendang, don't leave without trying the signature grilled squid (Bali Cumi). The perfectly grilled squid was tender and smokey, topped with a flavour-packed rempah.

Another must-order here! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Fork-tender hunks of beef simmered in a flavour-packed sauce that is perfect for spooning over rice. ๐Ÿ‘…๐Ÿ’ฆ One serving's good for at least two hungry bellies.

Don't expect the usual teenie tiny pieces of meat on just one end of a skewer, as this 8-inch chicken satay's packed from almost end to end with juicy and well marinated chicken chunks. To finish, it is grilled with a kecap manis glaze and showered with fried shallots. Must order!

Favourites were the Chicken Satay and the Rendang Beef or Mutton, I couldn't help myself but scoop many many spoons of the curry vegetables or the egg omelette as well!

Have a delicious dream guys! ๐Ÿ˜‹
