True to their name, the baos were what truly stood out in this restaurant. Now, if only they could be bigger...
Chili Crab Bao ($4.50)
'Deep fried bun, fresh crabmeat with Singapore style chilli sauce'
Simply comforting, deep-fried 'mantou' with loads of crabmeat drenched in a sweet and spicy chili crab sauce; Favourite bao.
Taste: 10/10

Salted Egg Chicken Bao ($4.30)
'Steamed sesame bun, signature salted egg sauce, seasoned fried chicken'
If you love salted egg, you will love this bun. Loaded with creamy salted egg goodness and a really juicy and crunchy slab of chicken.
Taste: 10/10

Salmon Mentaiko Bao ($4.30)
'Steamed white bun, fried salmon, cod roe sauce, cheese, tobiko'
This bao is essentially an elevated version of my salmon mentaiko bowl, with the rice being replaced by sweet fluffy buns and a rich cheese flavour to complement the mentaiko salmon. (Unfortunately, I do not remember the tobiko in the bun)
Taste: 9/10

Overall, felt that this restaurant was a tad pricey without the discount but I guess I should be expecting that due to where its located. While the rice bowls are the ones that will fill you up here, I would strongly suggest skipping them and going straight for their baos. Personally, I will only come back again if I've another huge discount.

Operating since 2015, @baomakers is probably the first specialty Bao cafΓ© in Singapore to introduce conventional Chinese buns filled with local or Japanese-inspired flavours. Other than serving their signature baos, they also have an extensive menu of artisan rolls and salads, as well as a plethora of Japanese rice bowls by day and sharing meat-based dishes by night.

They were all well-executed, and none of the dishes left me disappointed. The deep-fried mantou had a nice crunchy exterior with a soft, fluffy middle. With a generous amount of tasty filling sandwiched in-between, every bite was delightful.

My favourite is the Chilli Crab Bao with chunks of fresh chilli crab meat packed with addictive spicy notes admist the meat's natural sweetness. The Salmon Mentaiko Bao came with the option of steamed bao. Sandwiched in between these soft fluffy buns was a piece of fried crispy salmon slathered with a layer of rich mentaiko sauce and a slice of cheese atop.

Overflowing Chilli Crab Bao and Salted Egg Chicken Bao!
Wished they had the chicken in Kecap Manis Chicken rice bowl as a Sides for bites.
Special mention to the Cookie Bomb dessert. Wasn’t amazing but it took me by surprise!

Loved the salmon mentaiko and chilli crab bao. The salted egg chicken bao was okay, nothing special. Wanted to see more varieties of baos but they were only 4 in the menu.
The lychee tea was also very nice.

The first time they had a pop-up stall at Takashimaya, I missed it.
The second time they had a pop-up stall at Marina Bay carnival, I missed it again.
The third time, at their current location, they had a promotion of 2 baos for $10 (usual price ~$7 per bao), and I finally got it!

β€’ Chilli crab bao - chunks of real crab meat coated with a generous amount of sweet, slightly sour and spicy sauce, and sandwiched in a deep fried bun to imitate our deep fried mantou. Loved that the bun remained crisp on the outside, and how everything tasted like the real deal. It is, however, a little messy to eat and the sauce is thinner than your usual chilli crab sauce thickened with egg.

β€’ Salted egg yolk chicken and prawn - deep fried chicken and prawn coated with a THICK salted egg yolk sauce, with visible bits of salted egg yolk, and sandwiched in a black sesame bun. Meats arrived crispy and warm, and the salted egg is super super shiok (but it can get quite jelat).

β€’ Nanban chicken - same crispy chicken as the salted egg, but topped with Japanese tartar sauce that gave a good tang and hence this was extremely appetising.

I can't even rank them according to my liking because I love them all equally (buns are fluffy, albeit a little too small, and meat fillings are all so damn good) but I would recommend to start with the Nanban Chicken because it really wets your appetite and get the ones with one slab of meat (e.g. chicken, pork belly, Salmon) if you want something handy and gives a good overall mouthfeel!

This is the FIRST time that I'm eating lettuce with a Bao/burger. Need to celebrate this victory moment πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰. 2nd veg dish that I'm eating after qiji popiah. #burpple #burpplesg #baomakers

I really liked the salted egg chicken bao! The chicken was super crispy but moist on the inside, while the salted egg yolk sauce was flavorful and paired well with the chicken. I would definitely come back for this again!

The pulled pork bao was disappointing, however, and when it was presented on my table, it had a tad odd smell. The pork was dry and the coleslaw on top of the pork just didn't work and I ended up not finishing it.

They have many flavors of baos so do go check them out! πŸ˜‹

They've been at events including ilights and the more recent Artbox! Specialising in baos (duh) they have a WIDE variety besides your typical char siew and dou sha buns! (PS my favourite is their Chilli πŸ¦€ bun!) Also, they now have MAINS as well!

Back here the other day to try their Rice Bowls for the first time & of course we ordered their Baos too lah. They've got a good selection of 8 Baos; had the Salted Egg Chicken Bao with Steamed Sesame Bun ($5.8 but you can mix & match with minimum order of 2 Baos). Oso had the limited edition CNY Ang Bao (availablity till 12 Feb 2017) consisting of Fried Salmon, Cod Roe Sauce & Cheese Tobiko with Steam Bao ($6.8) even the price oso sounds very auspicious hor.
