鸡尾饭
Chicken rice with soup.
Juicy chicken, fluffy rice and chicken soup come together in a flavorful union.
Value for money and a must-try at Gourmet Paradise!
Not bad indeed.
If you love putien style food, here is a cheaper alternative to Putien Restaurant!
Putien Beehoon at this stall at Toa Payoh Hdb hub basement foodcourt gourmet paradise! Love the thin version of the beehoon for putien style food! The citrusy spicy chilli dip is also a must! This item comes with 2 mini prawns, 4 clams, few slices of taupok and peanuts!
($6.80) But I felt that fish noodle soup was not that full tbh but the broth soup taste like sour.
Portuguese Egg Tart ($4.50/4)
⭐️ 4/5 ⭐️
🍴This unassuming bakery at Toa Payoh HDB Hub has no digital presence. After years of strolling by, we decided to give it a try and left impressed by this hidden gem. At $4.50 for 4 or $6 for 6 pieces, it’s also one of the more affordable egg tarts around.
Unlike the short crust Hong Kong versions, these Portuguese egg tarts had a gloriously crisp puff pastry. The 5+ layers of crispy goodness reminded us of perfectly flaky croissant layers (recommend toasting them before eating), and went well with the egg custard 😋. We appreciated that it wasn’t too sweet although felt that the egg custard could be slightly smoother and eggy. Also would have preferred - slightly higher filling : crust ratio, as while we were fans of the crispy pastry, they leaned towards the buttery and oily side. More egg custard would have provided a better balance to cut through some grease.

Run-of-the-mill popiah, nothing fancy. But here they used double skins which made it a bit thick for my liking. An upside is that the popiah was really filled to the brim with ingredients.
This was pretty saucy and came with veg, prawns, clams and pork. Noodles were nicely chewy, but a pity it didn’t absorb the flavour as much - think it might perhaps be better if taken away and the noodles get to sit in the sauce bit longer. Their chili helped to spice it up though!
If you’re not a sweet potato noodles fan, they have other carbs you can pick, like normal vermicelli, mee sua, lor mee, etc.

Gourmet Paradise (HDB Hub)
Popped by for a snack whilst I was in the area! This mixed muah chee ($3.50 for medium) came highly recommended, and it definitely lived up to expectations. Pillowy soft and perfectly chewy! Was great that the peanut and sesame weren’t too sweet, although I could do with more toppings.
Laksa YTF ($4.80)
Price for 6 pieces with noodles is $4.20. Add laksa gravy for $0.60. The laksa gravy is not that thick and I wished it was more aromatic with more shrimp and chilli taste. However, it was thin enough to drink on it's own and with the ingredients. Ingredients quite fresh too.
We tried their sour vegetables 酸菜 fish soup which delivered the sour kick with a light spiciness, like that of a Szechuan sour. The sliced fish was really fresh we liked that they added some flower petal (think so) which have some pleasant fragrance touch.
Other options included Mala or even Tom Yum soup with seafood or beef choices. Non-spicy alternatives were available too though their selling points seemed to be on the spicy dishes.
We loved that all their dishes were served in a hot iron bowl which retained the heat well especially for the spicy soup. Though just a foodcourt stall, the soup with a rice was a satisfying meal. With the portion, it was good for sharing for some too.
Expensive.
The chicken was quite small.
Definitely wasnt filing.
But overall taste was good.
Delicious plate of classic nasi lemak.
Total $4.40 with added taukwa.
Kopi C was smooth.
Read the review in 2017 about this place and got skeptical initially. 🧐 We went for early lunch around 11:30 am to give it a try as it is in convenient location. (Basement of HDB hub where a lot of famous eats are: Rojak, Muah Chee etc). 🤤 We order 2 thunder tea rice for takeaways. Surprised to find packed ingredients: peanuts, bean, tofu, chopped greens, anchovies and Chye poh on top of brown rice (we pick this instead of white rice). 🍃 🥜
.
Now comes the final say! the Tea Soup 🥣 it has a good texture not as diluted as we expect. The aroma from ground tea leaves might not come out much but it’s thick & nutty. Very good & healthy lunch find in Toa Payoh and now we can add it to the other 2 stalls in Gourmet Paradise eats!! 😇
Fluffy rice, crunchy peanuts, fried egg, chicken wing & tasty chilli sauce.
Not bad!
From vegetarian stall.
Fried Vegetarian BTM $4 for this typical combo.
Crispy vegan goose, char siew mock meat and cabbages.
Teh C so smooth.
The custom of Lei cha actually began in the Three Kingdoms period or even Han Dynasty. Amazing. Didn't know it had such a long history. It is very popular among Hakka people.
.
Hakka Lei Cha is a low fat, low cholesterol diet ideal for body detoxification and weight management. The highlight is the green soup with flavours of basil and mint that is served on the side. The rice was topped with peanuts and a variety of vegetables like cabbage, green beans and choy sim.
.
Featuring the Lei Cha from Thunder Tea Rice. Enjoyed the fresh crunchy vegetables with crispy nuts. I usually will pour the soup into the rice and enjoy it together. ==============================

Amazing standards :) at 5.20$, I consider it the real deal.
0.6$ for white rice
0.8$ for Yam rice - always OOS after 7pm it seems
Why isn’t there more thunder tea rice stalls in sg😱 All the ingredients combined made the entire dish crunchy and yummy, you’d probably wouldn’t even realise it was vegetarian?? Hehe actually got this because I was too lazy to queue for the 老火汤. Not that this stall didn’t have a queue but the queue was fast!! Y’all should try thunder tea rice tooooo hehe. There are many other versions but I got the basic one😬 Plus this food court has other famous stalls like the rojak and muachee 🤗

🍽 FUD FOR THE TUMMY
• Thunder Tea Rice ($4.70)
Had it with brown rice. At $5.80 it’s really expensive for food court standard since it’s meatless. Taste wise is very normal. Definitely not as good as my fav in Tanglin Halt.
The queue was pretty long for an early evening! This is $5 portion for the 3 adults to share. Wow they are really generous with the sauce and crushed peanuts! 🥜 A tad too sweet but I do like the crispy toasted you tiao!!
