More Reviews of good food at Joo Seng Teochew Porridge

Whenever u read a list of Top 5, top 10, top 12 list of teochew porridge, Joo Seng Teochew Porridge will always be in it. Google reviews though, has not been very kind to them, with a 3.5 rating only(mostly due to the staff)

As it has been raining over this pass CNY long weekend, it was also raining tonight, weather so cold, walk pass a teochew porridge place, like the best combination for a late dinner.

Place was still rather pack at 8.30pm, way pass dinner time.

-Braised duck was rather good, it wasn't hard or dry, and the sauce was rather thick and flavourful

- Braised pork was quite good, but was a little upset that it was almost 70% fats for each piece I ate.

- Cai Po Omelette was my favourite dish today. Although it was cold, it was flavourful.

- hae bi hiam, cabbage were just fillers, nothing really fantastic

- Fried small fish(Anchovies) were rather terrible, its texture was like " Lao Hong", like stale chips that have been opened for the entire day and has lost its crispiness.

Overall though, it was still a rather good teochew porridge. It is expensive here too.

Joo Seng Teochew Porridge opens till 4am daily. So it's a great supper spot if u feeling hungry at 2am in the morning.

Total Price: $21 including 1 Coca Cola

Ordered some braised duck, celery, lala and tau pok for our late night meal to go with porridge. We just couldn't resist their braised items like braised duck and tau pok as they are always rich in flavour and goes very well with porridge.

The braised duck was soft, tender and it is particularly good with their rich and fragrant braised sauce. I liked that the tau pok braised with a distinct herbal taste - simply tasty. We also love the fresh lala that comes with some spicy flavours to add some punch to our meal.

Price varies with the choices of dishes ordered. Our meal came up to $19.30 with three bowls of porridge.

Joo Seng Teochew Porrisge! Fun fact: I used to stay at Joo Seng! 😅

Have been eyeing this teochew porridge for a long long time and decided to make a visit after green corridor walk (from buona vista to beauty world)! This portion for 4 pax (with 3 drinks) amounted to $42.9! Not sure about the breakdown because teochew porridge don't give you the details (one thing that I don't really like about visiting these teochew porridge places. Lol and these place was weird they insisted that we paid for the meal AFTER eating. Making us wonder throughout the meal how much the meal will cost 🤦🏻‍♀️). It is like atas caifan. Comforting food to eat though: Chye por egg, otah, fishcake, meatballs, braised duck (the braised duck is a MUST get here). The taupok, fried silverfish and braised cabbage were all requested by my dining companions, I won't usually order these items 😄

After reading some articles, I decided to go Joo Seng.
Ordered their signature braised duck leg, which is very tender and pair with their garlic chilli 😋.
The lala also good, but the Intestine a bit salty although it's clean.
Any suggestions for teochew porridge?

💰$30.4 (plus 2 drinks and salted egg not in the photo).

Haven’t been to Joo Seng in a while! Food was still as comforting as we remember, but somehow it seemed to be much pricier. Get their tender braised duck if you’re here, it serves as a good pairing with the porridge. We also like the thoroughly braised beancurd!

Swung by for a late dinner on a rainy day! This Teochew porridge is a perennial favourite and a good choice any time. We had braised duck, cui rou, qing cai and tau kee with two bowls of porridge ($17.20 for two). Love the traditional style of cooking and the strong flavours that are balanced by the warm watery rice. Portion was really filling!! #oldisgold

My go-to supper place when there’s a need to fill my tummy at night. Hearty Teochew porridge with a wide selections of dishes to choose from. I always get the braised duck as it goes very well with the chilli sauce provided. For price wise guess it’s along the middle range and it closes only at 4am!

Teochew porridge has become comfort food to me over the years. I used to hate it as a kid and would always ask for rice because of how tasteless the porridge was but nowadays I really love having a pure white bowl of Teochew porridge paired with an assortment of dishes. Joo Seng Teochew porridge is one of those great places you can patronise at almost anytime of the day (awesome supper place alert!), and have more than 30 dishes to choose from. You’re seriously spoiled for choice and it’s hard to make a decision!!!!

We went with the ladies fingers, chap chye, cai Poh egg, sweet and sour fried pomfret and a mix of taupok, tau kwa, intestines, 3-layered pork and braised egg. As always, they serve the warm dishes super quickly and with a bowl of gravy. Everything that we chose today was delicious, but what stood out the most was the pomfret. We ordered it upon recommendation by the lady taking our order and she vouched that it was good. Indeed it was!!! The fish is tender and easy to peel off the bone, while the skin is deep fried to provide a satisfying crunch when you bite into it. It’s also seasoned perfectly with a delicious sweet and sour sauce! Would order this again the next time we return!

Warm watery teo chew porridge is perfect for the rainy season. Side dishes were delicious and flavourful but not much to shout about. I liked the duck best.

What do you usually order to go with the bowl of porridge?

Teochew porridge is just perfect for the days when I’m craving some home-cooked Chinese flavours. Been overseas for the past one week so I’ve been missing food like this. My favourites here are the Otah, Fried Egg and Chap Chye (not pictured here). I’m personally not a fan of duck but try out the Braised Duck too, that’s good here too!

The recent rainy weather has made me crave for some warm, comforting Teochew porridge. Have heard some positive things about Joo Seng but it was a bit lacklustre to me, tbh. It's a place to go to when you want some warm, comforting porridge but I wouldn't go out of the way to have it. Although it must be said that the variety here is quite huge and prices are pretty reasonable.

That said, i like to have plenty of vegetables and at least a fish while having Teochew mui, what are some of your must-orders when you have porridge? ◡̈ .

Been craving some authentic Teochew mueh for quite some time! It's a shame that they don't have the Dou Ki in the brown gravy. Never really liked Pig's intestines but theirs were really good. Cleaned and cooked well.

Comfort food with many selections at an affordable price. Worth it!

A stone's throw away from the G7 Sin Ma Frog Porridge outlet along Cheong Chin Nam Road, this no-frills Teochew porridge stall is where our Tastemakers head to for a homey, comforting meal. Prices are affordable, there's a wide variety of dishes to order from and the food is satisfying — great for supper gatherings with your friends. Our Tastemakers like how extensive the menu is, so they can always try something new every time. Of all the dishes, Tastemaker Wei Zhi Chiang loves the tender, fall-off-the-bone braised Duck Leg ($6), while Tastemaker Justin Teo likes the Black Bean Minced Meat ($2) that has just a hint of spiciness. If available, go for Tastemaker Ni Eats's favourite dish — a whole Steamed Fish that is oh-so-fresh!
Avg Price: $10 per person

I haven't had that many Teochew porridge around to compare but Joo Seng's an easy choice to make when deciding a place for supper near home, especially when there's always a huge range of attractive sides on display. I've been trying a few different ones each time I'm here and they have always been satisfying! A constant for me would definitely be their braised duck, braised so thoroughly and decently tender, shiok! Their opening hours from 10am to 4am also makes it a crowd favorite for breakfast. #BurppleSGLateNight

Simple comforting food. This teochew porridge at cheong chin nam has a huge variety of side dishes for your morning brunch or even supper cravings. They are opened daily from 10am-4am. 🍴
Their dishes are all quite tasty ( at least I haven't chosen any bad ones before). We especially liked their braised tau pok and steamed fish. 🤤

This is the same 4 dishes that we always order - black bean minced meat [$2] that has a tinge of spiciness; cabbages [$1.50] which are cooked till mushy; bittergourd with eggs [$1.50] cooked till soft and no longer bitter; and duck leg [$6] that's braised till the flesh is falling off the bones. The rice of the porridge [$0.50] is grainy and milky, soaked till plump, exactly how we like it.

haven't had this in too long... got so excited I forgot to include the porridge in the picture haha oops (and also I didn't want to make them wait too long...) 👏🏼😁✌🏼️☺️👍🏼 #foodpics #sgfood #teochewporridge #burpple
