Pasta was perfectly cooked and tossed with generous amount of flavourful, juicy pork sausage meat with the skins removed. ๐ The creamy tomato sauce was well balanced by a sweet tang without being too heavy. The homemade pasta also had a cheesy flavour on its own, incorporating a rich savouriness! [8/10]
A dish anyone would think can be simply replicated at home with just 3 ingredients but this gooey stretchy cheese in between al dente cooked pasta in creamy sauce, embedded in thick and soft pumpkin flesh, without being surfeiting (even for a non-creamy lover like me ๐), was amazing. ๐คค The pumpkin lent a sweet earthy profile to the overall dish, definitely worth a try! [9/10]
Unlike most diners, I actually went to Latteria's Mediterranean sister restaurant Thirty9 first before coming to here. On my way to Thirty9 and enjoying the feel of walking down the rarely found cobblestone pavement, I took a look at Latteria al fresco dining area, I love the idyllic European vibe of the place, and I made a goal to come here before Chinese New Year. And I did, right on CNY eve and got a nice surprise here ๐
Since at a Mozzarella Bar, I know I got to order some wet cheese balls, which are this place's specialityโcan hardly get them elsewhere in Singapore. I opt for Burratina Affumicata, which is Smoked Burrata with Porcini Mushrooms and Basil Pesto.
I want to try this since I have never eaten burratina or burrata in its entirety before. This is mozzarella cheese wrapping around a creamy filling of curb and fresh cream. I love this at first bite because it is so creamy and buttery with an iota of milky, grassy flavour plus stretchy texture from the mozzarella. The smoked surface of the burratina adds an extra dimension to the taste. The creaminess of the cheese goes excellently well with the strong flavours of tangy tomatoes, earthy taste of mushrooms and the pungent basil pesto. A dish full of zest and flavours.
For pasta, I get Linguine al Granchio since I like its ingredients of Crab Meat and Mascarpone. This is fresh Tomato Sauce added too for the zest in taste. Rich in taste due to the mascarpone, this is pure comfort food. I actually prefer linguine over spaghetti since the flat surface of the linguine yield a smoother feel when eating it. Personal preference, of course. The restaurant is pretty generous with the shredded crab meat. And besides the shredded meat, I can actually find morsels of sweet briny crab meat, which is a delight to savour.
Despite being pretty fullโdue to the generous portions of food, I still make some space in my tummy for Latteriaโs Cheesecake. This is an awesome combination of Buffalo Ricotta Cheese for creaminess and light nutty flavour, Lemon for zest, Strawberry Compote for tangy taste, Basil-Coulis for extra kick and Strawberry Sorbetto for floral notes in frozen form. Just right in the sweetness and sourness of taste profile, I enjoy this dessert so much.
This is the surprise I'm talking about. I'm so glad that I visit this restaurant before CNY to get this special message. This nice little gesture is so thoughtful.
The al fresco area is perfect for lounging around and enjoying the lush greenery lining the perimeter. Majority of the patrons actually opt for al fresco dining.
The interior of the restaurant is classy and cozy. Great for romantic dates and family gatherings.
I like both the al fresco area and the interior dining area. Both have distinctive styles to make for a very conducive place to enjoy good food. Service is great too, especially the lady staff, who is very friendly and takes the effort to advise me on the portions of the food, which is a huge concern for solo diners like me.
I really like the food here, and it is great place to hang out at to just enjoy good things in life.
Thoughts: Cool place to enjoy Italian fare and specialty of mozzarella
Other than serving up hearty Italian dishes, Latteria Mozzarella Bar carries a wide range ofย mozzarellaย cheese. To start the cheese rolling, we had not one but two starters with cheese as the key highlight.
Stracciatella Cheese 'Pappa al Pomodoro'ย ($15)
A traditional thick Tuscan bread soup prepared with fresh tomatoes as its main star. As the description on the menu stated tomato stew, I was expecting it to be a hot dish. And to my surprise (and in a good way), it was served chilled on a bed of arugula and topped with stracciatella cheese. The pairing of the rich vibrant taste of the stew and the luscious "creamy" light flavour cheese was a summery delight. Every bite was refreshing and had a nice textural contrast.
Burratina Affumicata ($28)
A first for me - the smoked burrata has a more intense flavour as compared to the traditional burrata. Topped with porcini mushrooms, the mushrooms added an earthy nuttiness to the soft and creamy burrata centre with a "crunch" element from the rocket leaves.
This comes in a generous pumpkin bowl and looks exactly like a piece of art. The pumpkin and Mac&cheese is a great blend of flavours, and it's fun eating this, stringy cheese and melt in your mouth. The pumpkin size is definitely alot. Would love to come back for their Alfresco dining (S$28) They have reasonably priced drinks too!
At first youโll be a little doubtful as to why the Mac & Cheese is served in a pumpkin bowl, but boy IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. Look at the cheese! Itโs seasoned just perfectly, and you can scrap the pumpkin bits off the shell for added flavour. Huge portion too, definitely good for sharing
We also got the Bruschetta Cherry Tomato, Garlic & Oregano for contrasting flavours and the serving size was a lot bigger than we expected. The bread was very tasty and there were so many cherry tomatoes served with this too.
@latteriamozzarellabar is one of my favourite Mac & Cheese places and I'll be back for more cheese related dishes in the future too! The Mac and Cheese was served in a pumpkin which helped it to be kept warm for a rather long time. The cheese was tasty and this wasn't too creamy too. It's good for sharing as it is quite a large portion as well.
Complimentary Bread
The bread was sadly kinda hard, it's difficult to cut and bite through, and we've definitely had way better bread starters.
Honestly really pricey food, so I kinda expected way more. Also had to wait another 30mins for our mains when we finished our bread and burrata, but could also tell they were pretty understaffed that day.
Overall Rating: 7/10
Tipsy Tiramisu Cup ($16++)
This is a crazy huge cup of tiramisu, although a tiramisu & dessert lover like me would prob be able to finish this entire cup alone ๐. Anyway the mascarpone cheese was pretty light and creamy, and overall was a decent tiramisu, except that I'd have loved if I could taste the alc because it was almost non-evident.
Linguine Crab Pasta ($30++)
This was actually my favourite out of all the dishes we had. The crab flavour was pretty strong, and there's a generous amount of crabmeat! This pasta is pretty creamy, although it leans towards a tomato base. First taste reminded me of Chilli Crab, except without the chilli. Not to forget the pasta was al dente - I liked that it wasn't too hard nor soft, and definitely paired well with the sauce.
Mac & Cheese ($28++)
Served in a pumpkin, this was pretty fancy looking. Definitely first caught my attention with how cheesy it looked from pictures, and also raving reviews. It's definitely very cheesy, there's a load of cheese pull, but I found it to be a tad drier. Also would really prefer stronger and sharper cheese flavours - this M&C has very light flavours, you can imagine a taste profile similar to Mozzarella or similar lighter cheese. The pumpkin was sadly really dry as well, wished it was sweeter and more moist to balance out the flavours and texture.
[Latteria Mozzarella Bar]
Burratina Affumicata ($27++)
125g Smoked Burrata with Porcini Mushrooms and Basil Pesto. This honestly reminded me of this Stringy Cheese (Smoky Bacon Flavour) from @donkisg (IYKYK ๐คฃ). Anyway their Burrata was not bad, it paired well with the complimentary bread, and the pesto from the green spots were pretty strong as well. Porcini Mushrooms didn't have strong flavour, but I'd say the focus is on their Burrata.
Grown-up kids food in a charming Duxton shophouse. The fusilli is delightfully al dente, baked in a creamy, mild cheese blend with none of that off-putting smell. Served in a deceivingly small pumpkin - scrape some of that base for a sweetness that cuts through the rich pasta. Great for sharing!
We had the Eggplant Parmigiana, Stracciatella Crab and Homemade Red Tagliolini with Pork Sausage Ragรน. All quite delicious! The sweet crab and earthy arugula went very well with the Stracciatella, even my friend who didnโt like cheese found it good. Also shoutout to the tagliolini pasta, it was cooked to al dente perfection ๐๐ป
Even though I loved cheese, it was a cheese overload for us. Next time weโll mix it up with some non cheesy food (which is few and far between here lol). Also sad that they donโt sell pizzas!
Love all the dishes so much, it was really delicious and the price is reasonable for the given portion. Weโd 3 courses lunch - salad has the best aftertaste, soup was cream and rich so not really our favourite, main dishes are the homemade pasta and Linguine was really yummy. Tiramisu is really authentic!
Expensive place . Expect atleast around 150 for 2
Every thing was just perfect. The tiramisu was the best ever
This place is only for special occasions. I will take 1 star away for the price, but still highly recommend this place.
4 stars. Expect me here again soon :)
Lovely place, great food. Decor is nice
Service is perfect. Friendly staff
Price for 2 could be 60++. Good for date night
Kind of a disappointing starter. The cheese itself tasted fine, but the centre of the bocconci was not melted at all and a bit cold even... I expected this to be a gooey melty ball of cheese but instead only got a bit of melty and a cold centre.
The burrata was so creamy and fresh!!! We were told it was directly imported from Italy. You could really taste the quality of the milk from which it was made. Would highly recommend this dish!!! It was also HUGE!!! A very filling starter that honestly could double as a main for lunch OR dinner.
