Hidden under the crispy, flaky, buttery puff pastry are chunks of juicy beef cubes and savory vegetables cooked to perfection in thick gravy stock with ale.
I couldn't get enough of the buttery pastry slathered in all that thick rich sauce. Yums.
Can't wait to try out their fish pie!

In place of Char's old Guillemard digs is this British gastropub, which serves up good ol' English pub grub and beer. The space is cosy, with cushioned booth seats and wooden chairs, and an alfresco seating area for cool evenings. You won't go wrong with the classic Steak & Ale Pie ($19), which will comfort on rainy nights with its golden puff pastry and ale-scented filling of hearty beef chunks and vegetables. Fish lovers can go for the Fish & Chips ($22), which sees Hobgoblin ale-battered cod served with triple-cooked fries and mashed peas on the side. Wash that all down with a draft beer — we recommend the refreshing Hobgoblin Gold ($8 for half, $14 for whole pint).

What's better to order at a British place then their Fish and Chips ($22)! 3 pieces of Hobgoblin ale-battered crusted cod, accompanied with triple-cooked fries and mashed peas. Sadly, this wasn't the fish and chips I would fancy as the fish was on the drier side :( though the beer flavour really comes through. Best paired with their draft beer, recommended will be the light Hobgoblin Gold (half/whole pint - $8/$16).

One example would be the Steak & Ale Pie ($19) which brought back many fond memories during my holiday in the UK. A thick doughy pastry, made in-house, is used to house the filling of beef steak and vegetables which has been cooked for many hours in a thick gravy stock flavoured with ale, Worcester sauce, thyme and black pepper. Served with a side salad and chunky fries, this is screaming out loud for a pint to enjoy with.

It definitely got to be the good ole classic Fish & Chips ($22). Comes with 3 pieces of Hobgoblin Gold ale-battered cod, tartare sauce, triple-cooked chips that's so crispy and mushy peas which I absolutely love, Monkswood did a pretty good rendition of this dish.

From the team that brought to you @char_restaurants . After their shift to Jalan Besar, the old location was revamped to a British Grub and now serves classic English cuisine. Not forgetting draft beers of course.

The pie has generous amount of beef chunks cooked in ale and worcester sauce, each piece of meat is tender and filled with vibrant flavours. Pie crust was slightly dense and I think it would fare better if it's lighter and more towards the flaky type.
