Listed on the Michelin Bib Gourmand for 3 consecutive years this place serves handmade Kalguksu noodles - texture so Q and smooth, topping off with its robust soup flavor makes this unassuming bowl of noodles at first sight the perfect comfort food in this sweater weather. Mandu(s) are alright, the noodles is still the star here! The best kind of food are the ones that taste so good on their own you don’t need any condiments to go with it
The noodles were really silky smooth and soft. Not really my type of noodles though, because i prefer mine with a greater bite to them. The dumplings that came with this weren't their signature mandus though. They were smaller and triangular shaped and didn't have quite as much fillings too.
Famed for its hand sliced noodles, they were smooth and chewy, somewhat resembles Banmian, but less doughy. The other highlight was the clear yet rich chicken broth soup, that doesn’t leave you thirsting for water after the meal. Portion is huge so do consider sharing for light eaters.
Had this last dec and it was the only repeat meal I had during my trip last month because IT IZ THE BEST. Not exactly cheap ($12 for 10 dumplings) but IT IZ THE BEST JUICY PLUMP DUMPLINGS. Only 3 items on the menu (dumplings, kalguksu / noodle soup, and bibimguksu / cold noodle) and they are all damn good.
Their Dumpling (Mandu) are nice but I think this chopped noodle is very good. The noodle is so Q and I saw a lot of local Korean are eating this more than the dumpling. #myeongdong #myeongdongkyoja #mandu #choppednoodles #joetravelaroundtheworld #burpple
The restaurant is known for their knife-cut, handmade kal-guksu (noodle soup) which is its main menu item.
Also popular are the mandu (dumplings), bibim-guksu (spicy noodles). A look at their gorgeous dumplings.
The restaurant only serve 3 dishes - dumplings and 2 types of noodle (hot with broth or cold spicy noodle). The dumplings were so so good that we ordered a second helping and ended up being too full but still devoured till the last piece! Love that the dumplings were brimming with juicy filling and the skin was thin like xiao long baos.
The dumpling skin so was thin & smooth. The minced meat with cabbage & spring onion was so juicy!
Myeongdong Kyoja is an inconspicuous restaurant in a side alley of the touristy Myeongdong area which specialises in kalguksu and mandu (dumplings). The restaurant looks small on the outside and the queues may look daunting but you actually get seated really fast because the restaurant takes up four storeys of the building it is in.
Their kalguksu or handmade, wheat flour noodles in chicken broth was simply superb. Unlike most noodles which are extruded or spun, kalguksu is knive cut as its name implies. The noodles are slippery in terms of texture and are great for slurping. They remind me of udon but thinner and less turgid.
The clear soup is also deceptively flavourful. It is subtly flavourful and easy on the palate. Great in any weather.
We also had their signature mandus. They are good but not something I would go particularly for, unlike their noodles.
This is a joint that is definitely worth a visit!

Myeongdong Kyoja is a restaurant that are renowned for their Kalguksu (Handmade Korean Knife-Cut Noodle) & served in a huge bowl with their homemade thick thick chicken broth!
💭💭Thinking of it now, Hot soup to sip on a cold rainy weather & QQ noodle to dance in my mouth. Mamamia😋😋
~
Steamed Mandu from MDKJ tasted exactly like #xlb which is made so that the thin skin wrapped up the mixture of filling that contains Top-Grade Gilts/Sows Pork, Chinese Leeks & Sesame Oil to create the Ultimate Dumpling🥟

So if you are heading to #korea be sure to head down to #myeongdong to try them and tell me what you think of this #dtf dish in Korea😍😍

Although there are no broth beneath, each mandu encompasses scrumptious amount of meatball. The best part was that there weren’t any gamey taste.
Similar to handmade noodles we would be familiar with, theirs was on the softer side and easy to slurp up on. The winner for me was the tasty broth with minced meat. On the whole, it was quite a simple dish but very enjoyable especially in the cold winter weather.
The other dish commonly seen on every table would be their Kyoga dumplings. Thinly wrapped skin with generous fillings of minced meat and a little vegetable, great even for those who do not like vegetable.
The place only had these 2-3 items on its menu but yet it had a consistent flow of crowd, popular amongst both locals and tourists. #burpple #burpplesg #foodgasm #foodpornsg #sgfood #sgfood #sgfoodies #sgfoodporn #sgmakandiary #foodpics #foodlover #foodstagram #foodstagram #foodie #instafood_sg #instagramsg #instasg #whati8today #nomnomnom #instafoodsg #eatoutsg #foodforfoodies #NomNomSG #sgmakandiary #sgeats #sgfoodlover #sgigfoodies #instafood_sg #stfoodtrending #burpproved #seoulkorea #myeongdong
