Whisky highballs, tasty Japanese-Malaysian bar snacks and live music — the makings for a fun night out with your buds. Swing by in time for their happy hour promo (from 4 to 9pm) – buy any two Highballs (from RM17) and get the third one free. Or bring the gang with you and split 10 Miyagi Highballs for only RM140. Pair those refreshing drinks with good food like the crunchy Chicken Karaage (RM9), addictive Fries With Egg (RM13) and the Malaysian Curry Katsu Don (RM10). Ps. Whenever I feel pretty at night, a cocktail always a good companion. My drunken elephant didnt drunk me but leave me feeling like a patient. It looks great, but I don't enjoy the taste that was like a cough syrup. I couldn't finish this all night. My friend's Pina Colada was pretty good though. Price: RM40, Food: 3/10

Unwind with your best buds after work at this trendy bar in Damansara Uptown. The team refers to this place as Japanese mamak, and you can look forward to Japanese salads, donburi and ramen with a local twist. Get the ball rollin' with a refreshing Miyagi Highball (RM17). Alternatively, the cocktail highballs like the sweet-sour Boufu Yuzu (RM20) is just as good and dangerously easy to sip on. Don't drink on an empty stomach! Fill up on the Fries With Egg (RM13), a seriously addictive snack of crispy fries dressed in spicy mayo, furikake and bonito flakes. To share with the gang, order some yakitori – the succulent Tandoori Chicken Thigh (RM7) and juicy Pork Belly (RM6) are must-tries.

Rice in savoury green tea broth – perfect to have on a rainy day, especially with a drink on the side. Only wish this had actual pork bits.

Man these fries are addictive! I don’t know what’s in it but I’m guessing a spicy mayo, furikake, bonito flakes and more, resulting in a damn good bar snack. Must try!

It is what it is – tsukemen but served with spicy and creamy laksa broth. I liked it, but I think it would have worked just as regular laksa as well – no need to dip dip.

One thing I gotta say about the food here, it’s dirt cheap. I was expecting deep fried spam fingers but not hating on this rendition either. Spam is breaded and fried and topped with a savoury gravy and lettuce. Good snack to have with your drinks.

A cocktail highball on their menu, this one features yuzu sake mixed with soda. Can’t go wrong!

Can’t go wrong with a whisky highball – refreshing and amazing to sip on after a long day at the office. This new spot in Uptown serves delicious Japanese-Malaysian dishes made for late night bites with the gang.

With more than 200 whiskeys to choose from, 61 monarchy curates different whiskey tasting flights for amateur or connoisseur who wish to taste the various whiskey and get to know their tasting profile. I opted for the vintage Speyside single malt tasting flight which consist of 60% of Mortlach 2008 8YO, 54.8% of Dufftown 1997 17YO, 52.9% of Benrinnes 1995 19YO and Glenlossie 1992 22YO. They all has their unique own character but I personally like the Dufftown. Smooth on the palate with a hint of vanilla and caramel. RM80 per tray.
