This long-serving stall has been dishing out hearty Western fare since 1974, and is well known for their house secret garlic sauce which is sweet savoury spicy in flavour.
.
The lamp loin was perfectly grilled, tender chewy succulent in texture, with pleasant smoky meaty savoury salty fatty flavour.
.
The crunchy chilled coleslaw (cabbage, carrot) is light with vegetal sweet flavour, while the fluffy crisp English potato chips hold starchy salty flavour.
.
The old-school cream bun is pillowy soft with a thin layer of cream within, carrying bready milky sweet flavour, decent.

I'm back to try their KFC. They're very well battered and fried. It's better when fresh though, so don't leave them too long. Soy garlic was slightly better, as the other was quite generic.

Salt serves up some damn shiok Chicken Cutlet and Chicken Chops.

The Chicken Cutlet was crispy, juicy, tender and flavourful. So well marinated.

Their garlic fried rice also very good.

"Xin Mei Xiang Lor Mee in the day, Western Barbecue in the night (and Nam Xing HKM whenever it is open)" used to be my mantra when it comes to meals at Old Airport Rd FC.

Pre-COVID, I would usually visit Old Airport Rd FC at least once a month but this was my first trip in a really long time. It was kinda late in the evening but my chicken chop from Western Barbecue was sadly disappointing. The chicken meat itself was a little tough and dry and the sweet garlic sauce was watery, bland and simply meh. Hopefully I just caught them at a bad time because this was really far from what used to be one of my favourite plates of chicken chop!

For the past 3 years, we have tried many times to eat Holy Grill, but they always get sold out by the time we visit in the early evening!

So happy to finally see them still accepting orders when we visited at around almost 7pm timing! Got the BBQ chicken chop and Teriyaki Chicken Chop! Tasty rice was sold out already, so we opted for fries, potato salad and baked potato.

This was not my first time eating their food, as I have enjoyed their chicken chop in the past and wanted to introduce my dining partner to the nice food here. But.....the food fell short of expectations!! The grilled chicken was overly cooked I think, so it was quite hard and not soft and tender! The fries were also kinda overly fried and hard. Turns out the potato salad was the best side dish out of the lot.

Not sure if the standard was below average just for the day of our visit, or whether their food quality has really gone down the hill. Anyone else tried this recently?

@salt.oldairport has been slinging out incredible grilled & fried chickens for years, but it’s only now that I decided to try their Signature Chicken Cutlet with Mushroom Aglio Olio ($8.50 nett) instead of the grilled chicken. Lemme tell y’all that I regret absolutely nothing.⠀

Everything that constitutes an impeccable fried chicken cutlet is checked off the list. Well salted, juicy chicken fillet? Check. A thin, earth shatteringly crunchy layer of blistered batter that cocoons the chicken? Also check. A sweet & superbly savoury sauce glaze on the chicken? Yup, check. Gluttonous satisfaction? Check, all present and accounted for.⠀

The grease control on this fried cutlet is pretty remarkable, as you can get through about three quarters of the chicken before starting to feel the guilt of grease creeping up. Alas, this chicken cutlet is so gargantuan that the oiliness eventually adds up and gets you at the end. Still, it was rather delicious while it lasted. As for the aglio olio, there ain’t much to say. It’s al dente, gloriously garlicky & subtly spicy, a simple yet stalwart choice to complement the chicken cutlet.⠀

Sure, Singapore’s hawkers might be about to run into a chicken supply crunch, but that don’t mean that you gotta cut these cutlets out of your diet.

What makes this great is the marinade rub on the chicken.
.
They serve a traditional cut of chicken chop, with bone-in, a rare sight these days. The chicken is thick, tender, and juicy with a light chew, carrying meaty savoury salty sweet smoky flavour.
.
Completed with a fresh crunchy coleslaw with vegetal sweet notes, crisp crinkle potato chips with starchy salty sweet flavour, and a soft old-school cream bun with bready milky sweet notes.

Mondays don’t always have to suck. Brighten up your Monday with good food, like this here plate of Herb Grilled Fish ($8 nett) from Holy Grill in Old Airport Hawker Centre. The food is decent, but the real reason why you’re here is for the humongous portions. Yes, this is a bigger than average plate, and the fish fillet is too big for it.⠀

The dory fish fillet is grilled expertly, sporting a decent char on both sides, and the fish flesh is flaky & moister than an oyster. However, the texture is way too soft for my liking, but it’s great if you don’t feel like chewing your food. The herb sauce definitely needs more herbs, and perhaps I should’ve ordered the cajun grilled fish for a fish dish with punchier flavours.⠀

However, Holy Grill’s extensive selection of sides are the real winner here. Their baked potato is absolutely drowning in a deluge of melted butter & bacon bits, while their light, refreshing coleslaw is the perfect follow up to hoover up all that artery clogging buttery goodness from the whole spud.⠀

While it ain’t the flavours that keep me coming back, the titanic portions & the splendid sides from Holy Grill have me saying ‘Holy Moly!’

I’m quite picky about my fried food intake but every calorie counts in this dish 👏🏻 the chicken skin is crispy, seasoning is flavourful and light and the fried rice goes perfectly with it. I don’t indulge in this often but whenever I do I 100% do not regret it

Since 1974, this stall has been reowned for their hearty Western fare, served with a house secret garlic sauce that is equal parts sweet savoury spicy in taste, with a piquant note. Makes everything addictive.
.
The beef sirloin was done till medium, with a tender moist chew to texture, and natural meaty savoury salty flavour, picking up the gravy well.
.
I like that the crunchy chilled coleslaw is light on mayonnaise, so you get the bright natural vegetal sweet flavour of the vegetables (cabbage, carrot). The thick English crinkle chips are fluffy with starchy salty flavour.
.
The old-school cream bun is pillow soft, rather like a cake, with a thin layer of cream within. Has bready milky sweet flavour; works as a dessert.

Was feeling some good ol’ old school western food so I decided to try this stall called London Grill at Old Airport Food Centre. I got the pork chop and while this plate of food admittedly wasn’t the best, it was super nostalgic! The pork itself was thin and a bit dry but the marinade was spot on. I also really loved the garlic bread 👌🏻 the veges were just frozen peas carrots and corn in cream sauce and tbh it didn’t taste fantastic but it tasted like childhood and I really liked it??? I’d come back!

Very popular Old school western food, with their famous garlic sauce.

Very delicious and preparation time very fast. Auntie and uncle very friendly.

Chicken chop was soft and tender, garlic sauce was damn good and is a little sweet.
