An old gem tucked away at the corner Sin Huat Eating House coffee shop in Geylang Lorong 35.
They have been here over 30years already.
Operating from 9.30am to 3.30pm almost everyday.
Decent and Delicious bowl of Turtle Soup.
Not overwhelming with herbs and spices.
Light and flavourful soup just right for brunch or lunch.
Previous Subsidiary located in Lavender has closed down for some time already.
Priced at S$15 for small 1pax, S$30 for medium 3pax and S$50 for large 5pax.

I love their lor bak, prawn fritters and curry chicken. If you order individual portions, your plate would be drenched in gravies.

The Royal Flush (S$5.60) features five popular items that people will order from a scissor-cut curry rice stall: pork chop, curry chicken, braised pork belly, sunny-side up and braised cabbage. Putting all five good stuff together into a plate, and pour over those curry and braised gravy, makes the meal a hearty and heavenly combo.

While I was excited to receive a full plate of food, the first mouth was not as orgasmic. Something gives out a bitter (likely burnt) taste and I suspect it came from the curry pot. Moreover, the curry appeared to be a little starchy, as though some attempts were made to thicken the curry but perhaps too much cornstarch was added.

Another plus point about this eating place is that it opens till 3.45am daily, perfect for those who needs a late night supper somewhere in the vicinity. Then again, with lots of food options to choose from, coming back is not of high priority unless the craving is too much for me to handle.

Following the order from the guy in front of me, I got the recommended 同花顺 which apparently means royal flush according to my more Chinese-inclined friend. 😛Basically the full works, it comes with a whooping five different items; braised cabbage, curry chicken, pork cutlet, fried egg and braised pork belly!

While everything tasted good here at New Scissors Cut Curry Rice, it falls a little short of their Beach Road competitor though this will definitely still satisfy any cravings.

Scissors Cut Royal Flush Set ($5.60)

Tried this New Scissors Cut Curry Rice along Sims Avenue. The Royal Flush Set is really value for money as it comes with braised pork belly, pork chop, curry chicken, stewed cabbage and a fried egg. The mixture of curry sauces drenched the entire plate of rice and made this gooey mess really tasty. Individually, the ingredients weren’t as good as the one at Jalan Besar though. Nevertheless, I would still return if I’m in the area. Do also remember to order their asian soup addon. For $2, you get a bowl of hearty soup packed with pork ribs and melon.

Curry rice for 2 persons.
About $14.
At first plan to eat at the Claypot Rice yesterday but it would not ready till 12noon, so ended up here. Could not clearly see what was available so anyhow ordered some.
The curry was thick and gooey without too spicy. Best dish mush be the braised pork belly. The sambal sotong also not bad.

Lor bak, curry chicken, brinjal. Second time in a row I'm not completely satisfied. I don't know whether eating it regularly last time is just fond memories of comfort food or standards are really dropping. It no longer feels part of the conversation for best curry rice. Lor bak is still first-class, but don't be deceived by the gorgeous curry chicken, because it's okay nia.

God, I miss Deen Maju. What a place. .

This curry rice thing is alright I suppose. A bit gloopy and gluey, with a meeker and milder mix of curries compared to the bolder stuff you get in Penang. Could be a preference thing, if you're used to this style. It's sort of like - to be a bit racist here - how the typical Chinese nasi lemak tends to have a sweeter sambal. Not my thing. But hey if you're in the area and you're looking for something not too expensive (I think it's relatively affordable for Singapore but TBH I've forgotten the price point) and pretty good for Singaporean local food standards (hey that's the only thing Malaysia has over SG, so let us have this), this isn't the worst spot for lunch. .

Also, I wish there was nasi Kandar up at Fraser's. That would be quite pleasant - smash a curry mix and fried chicken and wash it down with craft beer and lagavulin. Oh well. .

Don't battle the food coma and just indulge before getting some well-deserved rest to charge up for the upcoming week! Even though it looks messy and gooey, Scissors Cut Curry Rice is one of the many places that I always recommend to my overseas friends.
