More Reviews of good food at Say Chiizu (313@Somerset)

Amazing! Will return for more, but it might have moved/ closed shop already

Original and Strawberry had all run out when we went at around 8pm so I decided to try out the Matcha Cheese Toast! ($3.80)
Took a big bite and was not disappointed by how stretchy the cheese was. (You’ll definitely be able to take lots of cute cheese pull photos 😉) The Cheese is creamy and sweet, probably because it’s made from Hokkaido Milk.
For me, I couldn’t taste the matcha taste at all as it was overshadowed by the cheese. The bread is also slightly dry as I found myself really thirsty after eating this. However, it was still pretty good and I’ll go back again to try it out in different flavours!

Finally had the much raved about Hokkaido Cheese Toast from Say Chiizu at Artbox Singapore 2018. It really does live up to its hype, with the buttery and crumbly toast sandwiched between a molten layer of rich and milky cheese that stretches on forever.

We’ve seen many instagrammers flock to this place to capture that picture-perfect cheese pull, and heard about it in reviews - so does it live up to its hype? Nah.

This stall currently gives you 4 options for your toast: Original, Chocolate, Charcoal, and Matcha.

At $3.80 a slice, it’s pretty pricey given its portion. Surprising to us, the toast was on sweet side, when we expected a savoury taste. We went for the Charcoal toast - the toast itself was crispy, but a tad too buttery for our liking (we saw them slathering heaps of butter on it). The cheese itself which should be the star of a cheese toast - was disappointing. It was too sweet and flat (with a semblance of condensed milk) and too chewy (like gum), which leaves you missing the melt-in-your-mouth experience of a good cheese toast which unveils the distinct taste profile of the cheese bit by bit.

So while it’s fun to see how far you can stretch your cheese, it probably doesn’t stretch your dollar. You’d probably get a better cheese toast elsewhere :/ It hits the sweet spot, just not the cheese spot.

Overall rating: 2.5/5
Price: $3.80
Ambience: Takeaway, Express
Location: 313 Somerset Food Basement

Not worth trying. The toast texture was great and savoury. However, the cheese flavour was too subtle and its stretchy texture made it hard to eat.

Also, we were excited to try out this cheese toast until greeted by the unwelcoming crew.

Thought there was a hype surrounding this sandwiches. No queue for me, but sure was one stringy creamy sandwich with a touch of sweetness 4.25/5

it’s quite pricey for such a small piece. i can’t see what the hype is about not sure if the quality is being compromised due to the long queue. the cheese pull literally pulled the entire lump out and the inside of the bread were soaking wet. the ordering was easy but there was so many ppl waiting and it was so noisy i couldn’t even hear them calling out to my order number. the collection was kinda messy. #notworthit

At first I thought it was all hype and I didn't want to succumb to it, but after trying it I must admit this is really good.

I like the buttery and crispy bread as much as the warm chewy cheese within. We've tried all three flavors - original, chocolate and charcoal, and our favorite is the chocolate! My advice to you is to eat it as soon as it's served to you, warm. If you must Instagram their cheese toast, wait for the launch of two new flavours, one of which is matcha. That cheese matcha toast is what I'm very excited to see!

(After all, it’s no surprise that Singaporeans love to queue for anything new 😌). With currently only 3 flavours available (original, charcoal and chocolate), I opted for the latter 2 and my personal preference turned out to be chocolate, surprisingly. Each toast is chocked full of mozzarella cheese that comes with an elastic factor for you to up your cheese pull shot! ✨ With toasted, crisp edges, the interior of the toasts are soft, pillowy with a lingering buttery fragrance. While the charcoal toast is attuned towards the savoury side, the chocolate toast, on the other hand, would suit those with a sweet tooth, with the addition of a luscious milky spread and a subtle cocoa flavour. Perhaps that’s why I preferred this version more than the charcoal? 😅. With currently 4 outlets in Singapore, the question is: When will the hype and craze last till? 🤔 .

Felt that the toast was decently sized, just right for a small snack when you're feeling peckish.
While i liked the buttery toast and enjoyed the stretchiness of the cheese, its sad to say that i could barely taste any hint of matcha 😶 to be honest, i even have difficulty distinguishing the different-flavoured cheese toasts haha 😅 Is it just me?? 🙈

Each piece is $3.80 which is about palm-size big. Pretty pricey for the size but it's literally crispy buttery with chewy cheese that is flowing out. #burpple

And thankfully there wasn't a queue. Sweet, savoury toast with cheese. Not the most filling of meals, and I'm afraid it isn't something which I would queue up for again anytime soon. .
