Made famous by peers like Tuk Tuk Cha, this cubed rendition of the much-loved Shibuya brick toast's actually pioneered by Loaves Me; it's now also available at their sister restaurant Cha Thai. The housemade bread is generously slathered with luscious butter, then toasted to a perfect golden crisp while retaining a fluffy and moist interior. But for me, what sets it apart is the thick Thai Milk Tea dipping sauce its served with. It's thick, rich, and maddeningly addictive!
The Potato Rosti ($28) has scrambled eggs and sliced pork sausages with tangy creme fraiche & red onion brown jus. I just wish there was a tad more rosti than eggs. Squid Ink Tangliatelle ($26) is slightly spicy and the pasta is kinda hard then expected. Did we take so long for photos? Personally I think the Roasted Goldband Snapper ($28) is beautifully executed as the fish is tender on the inside and retain the flavour.
Look at my bowl of Chicken Teritama Don!!! Large chunks of crispy deep fried chicken drizzled with sweet teriyaki sauce and topped with a perfect onsen egg, all on a bed of rice!! All lunch set comes with a side salad and miso soup at $12 nett!! What a good deal~ Also on Katanashi's lunch menu is Unatama Don with fluffy eggs and sweet unagi!
Loving Carpenter & Cook's new cafe, which offers a compact menu of savoury items, including sandwiches, pastas and pizzas; their best-selling tarts, cakes and pastries, displayed at the counter, are also available.
The crabmeat fettucine comes in a big heap, a thick, robust pink sauce – that's more tomato-ish than cream – clinging to every ribbon of pasta. It's not mindblowing, but it's rich and hearty and hits the spot nevertheless.
My croissant comes piled with arugula, smoked salmon and oh-so-moist, creamy, scrambled eggs – there's even a dollop of caviar to add a pop of saltiness. It's a weekend brunch special that you should certainly not miss, especially when it's priced so affordably at a mere $12.
Went for Yelp Singapore's 3rd Burstday Party Friday night, but the queue to enter didn't move for a long long time. Decided to skip the party, swung by the Neh Neh Pop stall on our way out of Red Dot Design Museum, and picked up the Mango Sticky Rice pop, yummy stuff! Pricey at S$7 a pop, but it lasted us a good 30-minutes! Love the texture, crunch and coconuty-mango flavours; and how it's not too sweet 😍 Thankful for the plastic cup too!
Knew I could always rely on Burpple's recommendation for good food! Came to Wang Dae Bak after seeing Burrple's ROTD and it proved to be so so awesome. Here we have the Toppiki Stew with cheese topping, which was so rich, saucy and sweet, maybe even a little too sweet for my liking. The Toppoki was soft and slightly chewy- almost the perfect texture for the otherwise difficult to digest rice cake. I also loved the generous serving, which could easily have fed a party of 4.
Made a visit to Yee Kee Specialist Roasted Duck with a few friends who have raved about their charsiew. Ordered three different meats to share; roast duck, charsiew and roasted pork, and while the roast duck and roast pork were decent, it was the charsiew that blew me away. Both the lean and fatty ones were good, though the lean one seemed a tad drier. However, the charsiew's charred exterior was deliciously sweet, and the fatty parts were chunky carrying loads of bite which is what makes it so good. The stall's last day of operations would be on 29th August 2015, so do head down for a taste of the charsiew before it is all lost.
The onsen egg provided surprise and amusement and the various tempura elements were lightly battered and suitably pleasurable — if you ignore the bitchy gossip circulating audibly about how the chicken is not as thin and likable as the fish ex-wife and that the tendon certainly traded down — but in manner of a dog marking its territory, the restaurant will set loose a most greasy, choking, sesame oil-esque fragrance which will envelop every inch of your body within five minutes of you being seated, and this will unforgivably mar the experience – not even a trip to the nearby 100AM Fitness First for some judicious and out-of-control spraying of Adidas sports deodorant from armpit to toe will take away the possessive grip of said insistent smell. 3.5/5

One of their MUST TRY dishes and I sure know why they have the CHEEK to say so!
Firstly, be amazed by their plating with their smear of black squid ink puree at the side of the bowl. I was then blown away by the softness and tender-ness of the pork cheek which Ah Ma Liu 👵 and her dentures agrees.
[Upper Serangoon] What's up for supper tonight? A few nights ago, due to a spontaneous decision, we decided to have supper but couldn't think of what to eat. After googling and using the @burpple app, we finally decided on a somewhat "healthier" option of teochew porridge and off we went to Heng Long Teochew Porridge, which opens till late. Looking at the array of dishes, we might have over-ordered a little as this table of goodies costs us a total of $18. However, we gobbled down in quick fashion and was truly satisfied. The chilli fishcake was excellent, just the type of texture and taste that I like. Pork belly and big intestines was braised till an umami flavour. The gravy/zhup with the plain porridge was the finishing touch for the fulfilling supper.
Made a trip to Density Frozen Custard and found a really cool and dark spot that the spotlight is able to shine directly on my Pistachio Ice Cream ($4) with Pretzels topping ($1), both perfect for a scorching weather like Singapore. After re-watching The Dark Knight movie last night, there was a quote by Jim Gordon, which he said at the end of movie which I feel is kinda apt for this shot, "Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight." Also, thank you to the friendly staff who helped me with this shot by adjusting the lights.
Definitely don't skimp on ingredients here. Comes with Sio bak, laba and the works. Be prepared for an hour long wait though!
