Finally had a chance to try Authentic Mun Chee Kee King of Pig's Organ Soup! The Pig Organ Soup ($7 for large) is light but flavourful, and it does not have a strong porky aftertaste. It comes with a generous serving of pork slices, liver, stomach, meatballs, tofu and salted vegetables. I like that the pork is soft and the liver is not overcooked - pretty good!
We also ordered Vinegar Pork Trotter ($8) and Braised Big Intestines ($8). The big intestines are cleaned thoroughly and very tender, but some might find it too fatty. The sauce of the pork trotter is on the lighter side, but the sweet and sour notes are still on point. There is also a good mix of fats and meat.
The Claypot Luo Han Zai ($5.50) is quite underwhelming - the flavour of the fermented beancurd didn’t really come through. The Speciality Preserved Vegetables ($3.20) is surprisingly sweet, which helps to balance out the savouriness of the other dishes.
Lastly, I thought it is quite special that they also offer Braised Pork Rice ($3) besides normal white rice. The chopped braised pork belly is soft and tasty.
Overall, this is a pretty decent pig organ soup place where you can have homely dishes without feeling jelak at the end of the meal - glad to try this!
It takes lots of courage and affirmation to be able to crown yourself as the king of pig’s organ soup from Authentic Mun Chee Kee. The soup here is of a lighter and “cleaner” version without the strong porky flavour with a touch of tanginess from the salted vegetables. The meatballs are nothing out of this world as they are the generic ones produced from a factory but the pork slices deserved a round of applause for its tenderness.
Its less crowded here as compared to their competitor with a similar name that us located up north-east to where Authentic Mun Chee Kee is.
Having tried both, I would say both are excellent soups, so just eat both, whichever convenient, don't have to be loyal just for the sake of it.
Soup was tasty and the pork organs were fresh and was cooked just right, not hard whosoever.
Authentic MCK offers braised pork rice for $2.80, which is quite good actually.
Great place for a meal on a cold rainy day.
I was very pleasantly surprised as the broth of this famous pig organ soup ($4.50) is nothing I've tried, as it is sweet and herbally, as compared the usual savoury broth that is deprived from salted preserved vegetables. The ingredients in this bowl is fresh and generous too! The chilli is so addictive too, as it not only has a kick, it's savoury style really complemented the ingredients and soup! Should have gotten the bigger bowl 🤣
This is by far the next Vinegar Pork Trotter I’ve had in Sg (compared to other stalls). It’s so good, I ordered a 2nd bowl! 😄 And the claypot pork liver is pretty good too. I’d say this is a value-for-money to dine 👍
Returned to try both their braised and vinegar pork Trotter. Generous serving of meat, plus an egg each.
It’s very value-for-money!
Also tried their Pig’s Organ soup whilst I’m here. It was ok, but not fantastic. Fair amount of pig liver and stomach and some pork slices. I wouldn’t order this again if and when I return though. I’d likely their Pork Trotters.
Came to try their Vinegar Pork Trotter. I’d say for the price $7, it’s rather good portion of meat which includes an egg too. Although I found the vinegar gravy a little watery.
Now this is a very homely version. Significantly different from restaurant versions which have more of a bounce, this was mushy(not in a bad way). The salted fish they use is also a very nostalgic flavour to me, again very different from the restaurant ones. If you've never had Chinese home cooked food do order this to try, otherwise it's not particularly stunning
Btw every side dish has soft peanuts apparently
Standard is consistent, heard someone ask for lu rou fan no lean meat no fatty meat lmao.
Not the first time I'm having this but abit annoyed with some people's opinion. This is an intense bowl, with every sip impressive. This isn't light or clean or homely. If your mom can make something like this I'd love to meet her and book a private dining lol
Also it's refillable and it's an utter sin not to refill here. If anyone knows a better pig organ soup please comment
Really small portion but very oily so it's substantial enough. I have to admit it's the best I've had flavour wise because of its intenseness that draws a resemblance to preserved olives, except it's slightly sweet. Nonetheless immensely unhealthy lol please pour the oil away regularly as you're eating
Absolutely delicious. Lightly herbal braising sauce which was savoury enough, with a unique soft mushy texture with bite. Not describing it well enough cos it was delicious
Generous serving of pig offal & pork slices cooked to the right doneness. Chewy and tender pork slices in a sweet and clear broth that was unexpectedly pleasant.
P.S. It rekindled my love for pork liver.
The lean pork and liver are cooked gently, retaining a soft chew. With the other dishes, the Braised Large Intestines are fine enough, as are the Sesame Chicken and Braised Pork Rice, but the Pig Trotter comes with a sweet, slightly herbal braising sauce which tastes a bit flat. @authenticmunchee
No Go
Can Go👌🏼
Must Go
Although this place is famous for their pig’s organs soup, heaven help us if we were going to only order that. Our unscheduled stop at a quaint tea shop where the owner treated us to an impromptu tea-tasting session had led to a couple of us being “ahem” close to fainting (sorry @alicia.kho @rainraineeataway 😅). So a pig-out session was in order.
Besides the aforementioned signature soup, we also got a big bowl of pig’s trotter stewed in vinegar, claypot sesame oil chicken, a serving of “mei cai” (preserved vegetable - @that_dex was right, theirs is exceptional), some fresh green vegetables in oyster sauce and bowls of “lu rou fan” (braised pork belly rice). The food was every bit as good as it’s reputed to be but I do wish their chilli dip was a lot more ballsy.
Tried the soup, sesame chicken and Luo Han Zai.
Soup had a comforting homey taste, with a good amount of ingredients - loved the meatballs too. Free refill for soup btw!
Sesame chicken was decent. Did not like the Luo Han Zai- try only if you are familiar with the dish.
Their braised pig intestines and braised pork rice’s the bomb! Paired with pipin’ hot pig organ soup, this is the perfect meal in SG rainy weather.
Although the prices have raised by $0.20, this bowl of 卤肉饭 still hits the right spot for something simple yet filling.
Packed with juicy chopped up bits of braised pork, every bite is packed with flavour as the remaining braised pork juices are made into a gravy and poured over the rice.
Best part, it’s only $2!! Where else can you get something at $2?
I mean at this price there's really no reason to order white rice lah. Won't comment on the authenticity but it's really q a nice and fuss free version of braised pork on rice
