More Reviews of good food at Ding Ji (Bishan 284)

A bowl of springy noodles tossed in chilli, vinegar and lard oil then topped with stewed mushroom and accompanied with a bowl of flavourful egg drop soup.

The hearty bowl of soup came filled with chock full of ingredients such as sliced pork, minced pork, liver, fishball, meatball, dried sole fish and wolfberries. The star of the soup has to be fish maw and the distinct flavours of dried sole fish ใ€‹$8.80

Ding Ji should be no stranger to connoisseurs of bak chor mee (minced pork noodles). While it has many outlets across the island, it's the original stall in Bishan that makes me swoon. Its menu features the standard Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle, but the ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—น๐—ฒ is the standout item.

Besides the usual bcm toppings like pork slices, pig's liver and minced pork, it also comes with one meatball, one fishball, one wanton and a raw egg dropped into the soup. These tasted sensational, but it was the soup that blew me away. Full of meaty flavour and possessing a subtle sweetness, it delighted my tastebuds and warmed my heart.

The soupy bcm at Bedok 85 may draw the crowds, but one sip of Ding Ji's brilliant broth and you won't be going back to Bedok any time soon (unless you stay there, of course).

Ordered the $8.50 fish maw Bak Chor Mee. Very generous with the ingredients. I like the taste of wolf berry seeds in the soup. The noodles were done just right but the chilli sauce was not spicy enough and a tad too sweet for me. All in, a bowl of Bak Chor Mee worth trying.

The noodles, on the other hand, were very much just passable. You've got the most generic sauces and a decent noodle texture that wasn't particularly springy or soggy.

Don't be mistaken, they are simply a stall of soup savants masquerading as noodle peddlers.

One of my favourite hawker gems closer to the north of SG โ€” Ding Ji is a famous teochew noodle stall where the noodles aren't the actual star. Yep that's right, the real showstopper at this hawker is actually the soup that comes with their ๐—ฆ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ป๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ๐—น๐—ฒ ($5, $8 with fish maw)

Each bowl is an ocean of richness, a treasure trove of ingredients, and running your spoon through it is like churning up tidal waves brimming with indulgence. One moment there're sightings of soft gelatinous fish maw chunks. The next, wisps of umami seaweed swim onto your spoon. Eventually, you'd be slowly fishing out more and more well-cooked parts, like meatballs and pork liver, to never ending bewilderment.

But really, the essence of the soup is in itself โ€” there's no greater warmth than slurping down the wholesome elixir, enriched from being clouded with porky particles while tinged with the vibrant sweetness of Goji berries.

284 KPT seems to be the supper hub of Bishan, with 284 Kway Chap in the same Kopitiam. Ding Ji is the dark horse, famous for its fish maw noodles ($8.80). I tried the step-down signature BCM as I wanted to save the $$$ (cheapo that I am). The soup is rich. You can taste the umami from the sole fish (ti Poh) powder. Best thing is that they are open 24/7. Get this and a serving of kway chap. K-O.

They offer a few variety of noodles such as mee Kia, mee pok, beehoon and kuay teow. Ordered the mee kia which are thin egg noodles. The noodles are boiled, dumped into a bowl filled with a mixture of sauces that the aunty threw in and then mixed together before topping it with braised mushroom. Taste-wise it was average, wished the aunty added more sauce cause the noodles were a little dry as well.

Now on to the soup. The soup is the main star of the show. The soup was salty and umami-ish. Could taste dried sole fish which I really like. The soup was also packed with loads of ingredients like minced meat, meatballs, sliced Pork, fried fishball, wanton, seaweed, egg, Chinese celery and not forgetting the fish maw. Really good.

However I do feel that their Ding Ji Signature Noodle ($5) is good as well. The soup is the exact same except without the addition of fish maw. So if you're someone who doesn't really fancy fish maw I would recommend their Signature instead, which I also prefer.

Overall a really good bowl of soup but average noodles. Definitely recommend the soup.

The soup was flavorful with a lot of ingredients like sliced pork, pork liver,ti po, minced meat and egg.
Next time will try the fish maw soup.
The noodle was springy and taste balanced between chilli and vinegar (someplace the vinegar quite strong).
๐Ÿ’ฐ$5.

The sambal had a strong ikan bilis taste and the Noodles can get dry so ask for more chili sauce(it isnt too spicy anyway)

Obv ppl are here for the soup tho and despite the generous amount and variety of ingredients, it's on the light Side. The umami still comes thru but with much less impact than i imagined looking at the soup. For 3nett more compared to their signature, the Fish Maw comes in extremely generous portions(6 or 7 good chunks) and they were cooked well. Worth a try if you're in the area, and evidently popular(i was lucky there wasnt a queue when i ordered but soon a few people were in the line, at 3pm in the afternoon)

Flavourful soup with some natural sweetness from the goji berries. One of my to go supper places when Iโ€™m in the area.

Headed to Ding Ji in Bishan for their Fish Maw Bak Chor Mee and it is fairly satisfying! Price is slightly cheaper ($8) for the fish maw soup, and ingredients are fairly generous.

Small mishap at the stall this morning when the cash register/POS was down and no orders were taken. The staff were clueless and helpless about what to do, and seeked helped from the waiting customers. Glad to provide some service assistance to them to resolve the technical issues, itโ€™s back to normal business now!

I thought the BCM was pretty good as it was well seasoned and really flavourful, but I found them cooked a tad too hard and dry.

However, Ding Ji might be soup savants masquerading as noodle sellers, as my focus was on the hearty fish maw soup ($8).

This was a treasure trove of ingredients, including goji berries, fish maw and sole fish. It was from here that the cloudy broth spectacularly derived its robust umami profile, which contained traces of sweetness and saltiness. Very shiok.

The magic to this bowl of meepok is the solefish. On indulgent days, I get the $5 combi that comes with a mix of ingredients in eggdrop solefish soup (like the dumpling). Just something so refreshing about this soup : ) yums

Trying this much raved about fish maw soup BCM! The soup broth was cloudy, thick and flavourful (could taste the sole fish that gave the soup its saltiness and fragrance). Noodles (chose mee-kia) were springy and the mushrooms were tasty, plump and juicy. The bowl of soup came with big pieces of fish maw, pork liver, dumpling, fishball, pork ball, minced pork, seaweed and sweet wolfberries. So good we slurped up all the soup and left the place with our tummies very satisfied! ๐Ÿ˜‹ This stall is opened 24hours everyday as well, keeping in mind for supper fix next time ๐Ÿ˜‰

The noodle was delicious, there was enough sauce to cover all the noodles, the soup was flavourful. For $3.50 there wasnโ€™t much noodles. So if you have a big appetite, order extra noodles.

Ordered the Fish Maw Soup with Noodles ($8). The rich soup base was really tasty and flavorful. There were sliced pork, pork liver, fishball, meatball, fish maw, seaweed, minced meat, dumpling and egg served in the aromatic soup. So much ingredients! The noodles were tossed with chili, vinegar, lard oil and sliced braised mushrooms. It was my second favorite BCM Noodles compared to Upper Thomson's. Definitely be back again!

I love it when BCM places have good soup. I can now officially say that this place is one of the top faves! A bowl of Fish Maw Soup with Noodle ้ฑผ้ณ”ๆฑคๅŠ ้ข ($8) has your regular ingredients like sliced pork, liver, seaweed etc, but the real star of this soup is undoubtedly the Fish Maw.

The soup itself blows my mind too - flavourful, I guess because the pork bones are boiled for forever!? Also surprised to find wolfberries (they're not chilli hor ๐Ÿ˜‚) in the soup as well which gives it that slight sweetness.

The noodles themselves were good too - I personally prefer the Mee Kia over the Mee Pok variant. J wants to go spicier next time - understandable because the level of spice couldn't be too crazy this time as we were dining communal-eating style.

This was the first stop of the day for Amanda's #TastyTastemakerTour- my dad offered to send me here after hearing I was attending a Burpple event. I told him I could take a bus, no need to trouble him.. But on hindsight, I think he wanted to send me because he understands Burpple = good food. ๐Ÿ˜† Not a problem, though, I already intend to bring my parents here for this simple yet sumptuous bowl of goodness.

[Ding Ji FishBall Noodles]
.
Tasted this bowl of Fish Maw Soup and Mee Pok by DingJi at one of the Coffee Shop situated in Bishan!
.
Fish Maw Soup broth seems a little cloudy in a special way! Its not those clear soup we often tasted! Broth comes with a handful of ingredients like Pig liver, Fishball, Minced Pork and Fishmaw! Its rare to have FishMaw in a coffee shop mee pok concept, hence its definitely an eye opening experience to me!
.
Soup tasted pretty sweet and tasty, seems like many effort are put in to create such effect, also its rich and really heartwarming and comforting!
.
Noodles are surprisingly amazing to me! Love it alot and sauces blends in well and perfectly! Thanksย @burppleย and@alhsxย for the recomendation!

Enjoyed the springy mee kia topped with succulent chinese mushroom. But the prize goes to the umami soup flavoured by dried sole fish and completed with generous amount of fish maw and pork balls #TastyTastemakerTour
