We opted for a relatively healthier option to start the day and we were glad that it was more flavourful than expected. The feta yoghurt at the side goes really well with the sourdough toast. We liked the crunch from the nut toppings as well. The serving size may look small here but it's actually pretty filling.
We came on a weekday morning and got a table in a few minutes. There's no service charge here π

The french toast is really sweet, with the maple syrup and caramelised bananas. The bacon gives a special salty taste, making this french toast stand out from other cafes.

I added poached eggs for $5, and it just goes really well with the avocado. The toast is sliced into 3 small slices, making it easier for me to cut and share with friends. The avocado spread is very generous and it softens the toast, making it more chewable.

behind the lemon thyme cake, we have the iced shaken honey oat latte (i think thatβs what itβs called) the latte was very smooth and was a pleasant drink. the lemon thyme cake was also slightly moist, and not too sweet. everything was perfect. staff were all friendly despite the busy crowd.
Ordered via Deliveroo. Thumb up when the outlet bother to cover my coffee with a baking sheet to prevent spilling during delivery. Their bread of the red bean bun is soft and fillings substantial. Their fried chickens were good as well. Crispy and juicy.
Quite a decent cup of flat white, not too milky, with a sufficient caffeine boost.
It is always better with natural meat than processed one. The steak was so soft and I liked it!
The bread is very seeded, which I am not a huge fan of. The avocado wasn't super ripe and soft but it wasn't hard either as I have experienced at other places - I think it's because they're so keen to serve avocados they don't seem to care too much if they're nice to eat or not... The eggs were a bit too soft/had very runny whites which I am also personally not a fan of. Overall not a great meal but not horrible either.
Good Morning, Coffee! πββ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Settling into the hipster vibe at @40handscoffee. Weirdly enough, my fave item was the butter (Yes, just the butter!!!) on the side for hub's @tiongbahrubakery croissant. π₯I literally couldn't stop eating it on its own! π Yep, just the butter. π
Very very crowded and kinda cramped seating, but I guess it adds to the ambience of the place? Love walking around Tiong Bahru estate right after a fulfilling brunch!
The beef bolognese and sour cream went really well with the nicely toasted flatbread. Love the juicy grilled portobello too! Other than that, you get pretty much the same old - bacon, eggs, sausage & some greens.
I particularly enjoyed the pesto quinoa mixed with feta yoghurt. Pretty refreshing!
We added a side of grilled chicken for $4, but it has lots of room for improvement. It was too dry and not well seasoned - not a worthy addition.
Fluffy and soft tau sa pau. Worth it a try if you are at the cafe. A bit over-priced though..
Price:$2.50
You should then consider forty hands. They serve a good brunch food with a nice ambiance. I tried their egg benedicts and pesto panini (not pictured). The egg benedict is decent enough and very filling. However the spicy potato is too asian for the main dish so they don't go along well. Nonetheless, i still love the potato by itself. #igotfoodcoma #burpple
Forty Hands is located in a quaint hipster neighbourhood at Tiong Bahru. I always love walking around the Tiong Bahru neighbourhood because of the restored houses and the rustic vibes. There are a few tables for outside seating, some tables in front of the cashier counter, and more seats downstairs. I personally like sitting downstairs as itβs more private and chill.
Second visit to Forty Hands and this time I ordered the Croque Madame ($13 + $2 for fried egg) and it didnβt disappoint. The croissant is from Tiong Bahru Bakery, which is flaky crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfect. The melty goodness of the cheese, paired with the savouriness of the ham, and a fried egg to tie everything together made this an amazing brunch to start the day with. My mom tried a bite of this and declared she wanted to order this the next time she comes!
Their coffee beans are from Common Man Coffee Roasters and I really enjoy the mocha here. Itβs thick, chocolatey and comforting. Overall, this would be a good place for brunch, lunch or coffee with friends, or a nice place to just come a chill by yourself and get some work done. This is definitely a cafe I would revisit many times over and Iβm glad to know that theyβve extended their opening times on Fridays and Saturdays so I finally have the chance to try their chilli crab fries one day!
Second visit to Forty Hands and I HAD to order the Tau Sar Pau (~$2.5) again. Although some of my friends who live nearby say that the quality is inconsistent, I found it just as fluffy and satisfying as the first time I tried it! It is served hot and comes really quick. The filling is smooth and not too sweet, itβs just nice. Perfect to share with your dining partner (provided you can resist gobbling it all up), before your breakfast meal or main course. I donβt usually go for Tau Sar Pau (much prefer meat pau), so my family was very surprised that I really liked this. Would definitely consider this as one of the best (if not the best) in Singapore!!!
I love the Onde and coffee, the only drawback is the space is rather cramped...
Forty Hands is no stranger in the cafe scene here in Singapore, an establishment that has been around for some time. It is of no surprise and I'm really glad that they are still doing brunch fare right.
A good amount of creamy hollandaise sauce over poached eggs with well seasoned steak and spicy roasted potatoes on the side. It is without a doubt that the runny egg yolk from the poached egg jels and holds the dish together. The elevated combination of flavours you get in this dish will definitely awake your palates.
poached eggs, spinach, portobello mushrooms and sunflower seed toast for $18. i thought it was pretty tasty; i especially loved the toast and the spinach! the mushrooms felt a little bit salty and my tongue feels itchy now... msg maybe? my friend got the banana bacon french toast and i loved the fluffiness of the toast!! will b back to try the french toast :)
This was a breakfast that lasted me more than a good half of the day, and fuelled me through work on a weekend. Of all the eggs bennys i have had, this has to be the winner in my books. Eggs were executed perfectly, with runny yolk, and the dish was not drenched in hollandaise (which I really appreciated). There was a substantial amount of spinach and bacon which was enough for every bite till the end. And, letβs not forget the potatoes, those golden nuggets packed with flavour, with a slightly spicy kick to it, really elevated the whole dish and in a long time left me feeling like an eggs benny actually satisfied me.
Itβs 31 degrees outside, but it feels like 37 degrees - really, thatβs what my weather app says.
In times like these, in cold brews I trust ;)
Forty hands uses Common Manβs 22 Martin blend - think dark chocolate, molasses and hazelnut with a heavy body and lingering finish.
