More Reviews of good food at Hai Xian Zhu Zhou (Bukit Panjang)

The store opens at around 3:45-ish, and even at this timing there was still a queue! Broth was spicy and shiok at the same time. I am not a good spicy eater so it was a struggle to finish this bowl of goodness, but bf was enjoying it and even added some chilli slices. It’s a solid 8/10 ☺️

Spicy Koka Noodles, $5 from 海鲜煮粥 𝗛𝗮𝗶 𝗫𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗭𝗵𝘂 𝗭𝗵𝗼𝘂 ⠀

We have heard so much about this legendary Uncle KKM and today we finally make the trip down, all the way from the East to the West to try it for ourselves! We arrived around 10-ish with 6 ppl in Q and surprisingly the waiting time wasn’t too long, approx 15-20mins to get our hands on our food! Spicy Koka Noodles is their 𝘚𝘐𝘎𝘕𝘈𝘛𝘜𝘙𝘌 and it did live up to its name!!! IT’S SO DAMN SHIOK👍🏻👍🏻!!! Comes in 3 sizes, $4/$4.50/$5, we decided to whack the $5 to make our trip worthwhile 🤣⠀

Spicy Koka Noodles is fully infused with their spicy broth packed with so much flavours in it for that spicy🌶 kick! Noodles were very QQ springy and soft, served with generous serving of tender sliced meats, super flavourful minced meat, vegetables and an egg! It’s indeed so satisfying, comforting, and addictive! We are so hooked to it and would totally travel all the way down for this awesome bowl again! ⠀

Ever since leaving secondary school, I have not tried their stall anymore as I live in Choa Chu Kang and they closed after lunch time.

Only today when I was nearby, I decided to try after nearly 9 years. I had to takeaway instead of eating there due to the circuit breaker restriction. Good thing is they offered to separate the noodle and soup so that the noodle wouldn't be soggy.

Taste wise, it is like what I had in the past but as I had it at home instead of the coffeeshop itself. It is not as pipping hot which I had in the past.

It was $3 in the past but now $4 due to inflation. Do note that the cheapest price of each dish does not include egg as shown in the signboard. Hence, my noodle (without egg) would be $3.50 + $0.20 for container.

Have been patronising this stall for years and have always ordered the kekoumian, but I decided to try the mee hoon kueh that day instead. It looked hand torn, and it was a little doughy but still acceptable - not the best mhk. It’s served in the same broth as the kekoumian - not too salty, light, but flavourful. The broth is the star of the bowl. Comes with veg (there is a lot in my bowl because my friend gave me all of her veg), minced meat and an add-on egg.

💵: $4.50

🤔: This bowl was EVEN BETTER than when I had it the first time, but my is my egg yolk always overcooked?!?!!!!

💵: $4.50

📈: 9.5/10

🤔: Delicious soup, QQ noodles and generous amount of ingredients. No lava-yolk moment thus the -0.5, but still a super satisfying & comfortingly delicious bowl of noodles.

Their renowned broth is remarkably flavourful, with a hefty umami that is tinged with a porcine sweetness.

Personally, I feel the magic is in the components, especially the springiness of the instant noodles and its absorbability being a key factor; the generous amount of liao (tender pork slices and pork liver) also allows for maximum indulgence.
-
However, possible consistency issues due to crowds — occasionally I've had anemic tasting broths, and the dish as a whole falls apart without the robust flavour.

3rd time eating, 1st time seeing the worm in my soup, not sure how many times I’ve missed them. Understand biz is good, however that’s totally not an excuse. Aunty was unapologetic and said it’s unavoidable. Wasn’t even asking for a refund, just wanted to remind her to wash the veg properly to prevent from the first massive food poisoning from happening. Business good so haolian! Not coming back again.

Koka noodles served with spicy broth and generous ingredients(slice pork, mince pork ball, liver and vegetables).
The broth not as spicy as It’s looks and I added an egg for $0.5.
I prefer their Pork Koka Noodle, the broth more flavoured.
It’s Healthy way to eat Instant noodle.
💰$3.7

If you’re not a fan of KKM, there’s also ee mian available at this stall. While you can request for them not to cook the KKM for you when you takeaway (they’ll package it in a separate plastic bag), Ee mian might be a good option for those who are just too lazy to cook those instant noodles at home (who wants to wash up right?). These noodles probably hold up the best in a takeaway situation as compared to KKM, Mee Sua or mee hoon kueh, and don’t make the broth floury and cloudy so you can best enjoy the richness and sweetness of your broth of choice.

Favourite ke kou mian stall (and probably the only stall I would buy instant noodle soup from) because the broths here are just incredible. Super aromatic, thick and flavourful. There are four soup broths - seafood, pork, tom yum and spicy, all of which are yummy but I went for the pork today. The smell from my takeaway containers were so incredible that I was in a real rush to get home to dig in. The soup broth was just as great as I remembered it, and there’s a good amount of vegetables and tender minced pork balls, as well as an egg hidden in the broth.

In addition, other than KKM, they do sell other types of noodles such as ee mian, mee hoon kueh, sheng mian and mee sua so I decided to go for something slightly less unhealthy today. The mee hoon kueh here is hand torn, each piece is irregular in size and thickness which I absolutely love. However, it does tend to be on the doughy side and becomes soggy quickly especially if you pack it to go.

Wait time was approximately 20 minutes at 8am on Sunday - you won’t see how many people are waiting, but you’ll get a queue number after you order.

This is still one of my favourite comfort foods to have on a leisurely weekend morning - accessible, affordable, and oh so yummy!

Only the westies would know this one. The popular ke kou mian; a great supper spot after a night of partying

Well, At Least There's still something Good At Yishun!.

Settled For Lunch at 【#海鲜煮粥】,An Establishment that's known for their Koka Noodles Aka Maggie Noodles And Porridge Items! And Ya, Their Kinda Pops around Yishun Neighbourhood! But whatever, As Long it's Comforting and Wallet Friendly, I'm contented.❤️

I had this twice in a day (one for brunch and one for supper) so I can tell you that it is that good. 👅 I always get the big spicy because it packs so much flavour and the spice level is exactly how I like it. I heard the seafood one is good too! I’ve tried the original non spicy once but I found it really boring and ordinary compared to the spicy version.

This needs no introduction because most westies love this place and frequent it for breakfast or supper. BUT I realised many of my friends who don’t stay in the west have somehow never heard of this gem, so here’s me recommending KKM to everyone. I always go for the Big Spicy because it’s the best thing ever; the broth is spicy and rich, filled with lots of ingredients like pork meatballs, pork, egg and some liver. I’m so addicted to this that I travel from Kovan to Bukit Panjang by 1 hour of public transport just to have this so what are you waiting for!!!!! yum

This is where I've been coming regularly for breakfast. It's quite a well known stall, and they have many outlets across the island. Even though I chosen instant noodles as my choice of carbs, the broth was still naturally sweet (not instant noodles msg laden soup). The pork ingredients was soft, smooth and fresh too.

This is one of my regular places for breakfast on weekends. The popular Hai Xian Zhu Zhou in Yishun has this branch at Blk 151 Serangoon North Ave 1 that serves Mee Hoon Kuey, and you have the option to add pig intestines to it. The soup isn't typical of bee hoon kuey though, as it's the one served with their ke kou mian. It's lighter and less salty.

Original kekoumian and spicy kekoumian ($3/$3.50/$4)

Simple yet delicious bowl of goodness! Who knew maggie mee would taste this good in a thick and flavourful broth? This stall is run by an elderly couple, the auntie takes orders while the uncle cooks. Both of them were really friendly and nice. Had this on a cold rainy day and it definitely warmed my tummy and heart 😌

Love your instant noodles but not the MSG? Then this stall has just the solution for you! (although they're not quite "instant" and may even take 10x longer LOL) I was here on a Sunday morning so my waiting time was 30mins. Nonetheless, the stall owners are swift and sufficiently experienced to provide the fastest service they could without making any errors in the orders.

They sell both porridge and noodle varieties, but they're best known for their seafood or pork 可口面 (aka the curly, springy instant noodles). While the noodles aren't any spectacular, the amount of ingredients given were GENEROUS for an average price of $4 per bowl. And I really mean it. 3/4 prawns + 3 thick slices of fish + cuttlefish + sliced pork + vege for the seafood version, and 3 slices of perfectly-cooked pork liver + tons of sliced pork + minced pork + vege for the pork version?!?! What's more, the soup was flavourful without the use of MSG.

Like seriously, this is one of the most value-for-money and comforting bowl of noodles I've ever eaten.
