Discover bowls of heaven at this no-frills joint at Dataran Sunway. Folks come for the Pork Noodles (from RM8) – think flavourful pork broth with noodles of your choice, pork meat, lard and veggies. Alternatively, go big with the X Special (RM15) that comes with a runny egg and a bit more of everything including innards. There’s also a dry version that's just as satisfying — noodles coated in sweet soy and served with a bowl of pork soup. It gets especially crowded at lunch, so take Burppler Lydia Wong's advice and come for an earlier meal instead.

It’s been so long that I forgot the price of this plate of pad Thai. I believe it was less than RM 10. It’s the simplest plate yet satisfying. I opted for no vegetables so it’s a little boring. But it’s definitely my go-to place whenever I want a simple & cheap plate of pad Thai.

The constantly jam-packed Mr. Tuk Tuk is hard to miss with its incessant queues and a bustling dining environment. One look at the menu's less-than-RM10 prices and I was sold. The Mango Sticky Rice (RM7.80) conveniently served in a plastic container, saw the richness of coconut milk seep into the flattened layer of sticky rice with cut mango on the side. Have it to go, if you're one who prefers to sit out the crowd.

Pretttty sure the Friend in Friend Chicken is a typo on their menu, but hey fried chicken can be my friend anytime. This is nothing like Korean fried chicken, but trust me, it’s wonderful regardless. Think mamak-like, batterless seasoning that packs flavour into big, chunky chicken thigh pieces. The sauce, like in their spicy rice bowls, is very punchy — proceed with caution.

From their CupBop series comes a selection of simpler bowls sans barbecued meats. Bibim Bop’s tasty, with a formidable fried egg, lots of crunchy greens and ok-tasting gochujang sauce. Comes with a side of pickled radish.

Korean-style barbecued beef slathered in a flaming hot sauce, tossed in with rice, sweet potato noodles, macaroni and greens. Despite the Sunway Uni location (where typically mediocre joints pop up) this was a pretty great rice bowl! Especially good if you like yours with serious heat.

Add a drink to order (RM2 off) to get it as a set with soup!

They specialise in fried spaghetti served with your choice of protein. The first time I've eaten this fried spaghetti was at the old SS2 Chow Yang hawker centre many many years ago. The next was a food truck called 'Spag Me' which brought back the nostalgia. Now I'm trying out this store to see if their dish is the real deal. Upon tasting it, my tastebuds are awakened by the fresh wokhei and garlic flavour. The spaghetti was perfectly al dente too. The chicken ham slice, sausage and interestingly shaped boiled egg added much needed protein to the dish and made me feel nostalgia again. There were french beans and carrot sticks for a better nutrient profile and some colour to make the dish pop. And it was made complete with the delicious black pepper sauce, of which there was plenty to drizzle and slather the spaghetti and meat products in. The drink(swipe left) was RM6.50 and it's a Basil Lime Soda. Pretty good but it was quite a small portion. Overall 8/10, wish they had free water and a bigger space for eating.
