I finally scheduled a visit to @lajiangshanhotpot recently and I must admit that the hype is well warranted. At $18.80++ for the base BBQ & hotpot buffet package, an additional $2.80++ for the hotpot broth and $2.30++ for free flow drinks & ice cream, you can easily gorge yourself stupid for under thirty bucks a person. If you’re looking to go a little more bougie, you can splash more cash for a more premium buffet at $28.80++.⠀
⠀
The basic package is serviceable, with offerings like cumin chicken, black pepper chicken & pork, pork belly, thinly sliced beef, sausages, cheese tofu and all the usual stuff available. If you’re interested in pure quantity, you could do a lot worse than La Jiang Shan’s basic buffet. The premium options are mighty tempting though, with wagyu beef, garlic pork belly, premium fatty pork, squid, scallops and even xiao long baos, so I’ll definitely be back to splash the cash.⠀
⠀
If you’re a first timer to La Jiang Shan like I am, squirt some of the oil in the squirt bottle that can be found on every table onto the metal hotplate, and then put the grease paper on top. I didn’t realise this hack until I was close to two hours into stuffing myself, when a guy took the table next to me and did this. Not only did the grease paper stick to the hotplate, his meats cooked astonishingly fast compared to my unlubricated meat. Cue my brain exploding from this three hundred IQ technique, and me introducing my face to my palm for not realising this earlier.⠀
⠀
Well, now that I know better, it sounds like I need to go for round two to correct my mistake.
went there on a tuesday afternoon, 2 pax, both students. showed them the page of the burpple 141 all day buffet before entering and the cashier said can use on that day. after finishing the meal, they charged me wknd adult prices for the 141! even though we were both students, and we went on a weekday lunch … charged me 30.80 for 2 pax when if without the deal, i would have paid 35.40 for 2 pax student lunch anyways. absolute clickbait when didnt even specify in t&cs of the deal itself, only told us after we finished the meal. dont ever go there what a misleading advertisement to attract customers.

[Dinner buffet $19.90 + cheese ring $9.90 before GST]
Pretty unique buffet with lots of variety like the tteokbokki, deep fried dishes and fish cake stewer. Ordered the classic soup which is sweet, flavourful and not spicy. The cheese ring contains sweet corn which I think should be left out, haha. Finishing the hotpot, there is an option to fry the rice with the left over soup base but I think the fried rice was a meh.
We ate there a few times during the 1-1 period before it changes to 30%.
We did not make reservations but the guy was ok for us to wait indoors.
Service was fast even tho you can see there are short staffed. The young guy (owner) was funny and friendly. He was at our table making conversations, telling us jokes and pouring us drinks. Constantly refilling our cups when it’s empty.
Tissues were provided on every table. And the counter was manned by the staff since we can’t take the food ourselves yet. Sometimes, waiting for a few minutes for the staff to help you take food won’t kill you because they are short staffed.
Food were constant refilled too. I like how they have different varieties of tteok. The tteok were nice and chewy. For the price paid during the 1-1 they even include some seafood and different type of meats + fried side dishes and unlimited fish cakes and ramen noodles. Of course it is common sense to take only what you can eat and not waste food. You don’t need people to remind you of this simple thing 🙃
Lastly, don’t eat too full. Because there’s still the fried rice made from the leftover soup and ingredients you have from your hotpot.
When you come, rmb to tell them beforehand you’re using burpple. They asked misleading questions at the start like “where did you reserve from?”, and blamed us for not saying “I reserved from Burpple”. What is the difference if we had told you beforehand vs after the meal, that we are usinf Burpple? There is no reservation button from Burpple at all. Also mixed up our meat orders. Would not come again.
First time coming here but bad experience. Staff did not even inform us about food wastage prior. Poor service, food was so so. Unhygienic as we were told to reuse the bowls for picking our food items. No tissue was provided. Generally an unpleasant experience for first timers. Do not recommend.
Would definitely come again!! (-: the spread of food for the buffet was good. Fresh seafood, meat and the usual meatballs, tofu and etc. But be aware that most/all staff there (when we were there) only speaks chim Chinese. Luckily my friend was a fluent speaker!
To be honest, price performance ratio of buffet was reasonable i.e. despite most food offerings being processed food example luncheon meat, cheese tofu etc, taste of buffet was reasonable.
However, the service rendered by a young guy, (presumingly the owner) as he was wearing short bermudas, was rude, arrogant and aggressive. He shouted at us when we were queuing outside patiently waiting for a seat to hold on as we did not have reservations.
When we were allowed in, there was no staff manning the buffet station as well and numerous customers had to wait for a long period of time before someone served them (no self-service was allowed)
Kitchen also completely forgotten that we had ordered a baked cheese ring to go with the buffet. This was only served 30 minutes upon prompting the waitress
For the uninitiated, the good reviews are mainly bcos the restaurant offered a free ice cream / bingsu for customers who “like” their facebook page and provide a review on either Facebook or Google.
Highly NOT recommended.
It’s pretty alright for the hotpot/bbq, nothing fancy but have to agree that they do serve decent quality of meat (esp the marinated pork belly). Apart from that it’s just alright but wouldn’t come back again tho! Total damage $30/pax and do take note that they charge soup base separately.

ate this at the start of the year so i can’t rmb exactly how much we paid but i think it amounted to around $30 per person???? which was waaaaay more than we expected for a burpple deal 😤😤 we did top up drinks and other food but i don’t think we expected it to cost that much n we basically concluded that we were scammed.
but the food was gd ngl, had a huge variety of marinated meats and seafood and vegetables! the tom yum soup and tomato soup we got was vvvv tasty. also was served by a rly friendly waitress who kept checking in with us to change the oil sheet and top up soup 🥰 but ya other than that the burpple deal rly did nth much for us lol
