The Chicket Cutlet Sando ($5.90) is made with a crispy cutlet and a slab of egg sandwiched between two white bread slices. Though it was simple and wasn't a flavourfully loaded sandwich and the egg lacked any fluffiness, it was a filling one that was satisfying enough for a quick lunch grab. The sando also came with a couple of crispy and tasty hashbrowns and a cup of hot coffee/tea.

This is the OG SEY chicken dish from Sim Lim 👍🏻 It’s usually flooded with office workers during lunch, and they recently opened a new outlet at Downtown East. Still my go to whenever I’m craving it.

We really enjoyed this dish. The fried silken tofu is so soft, and gives way when your eager utensils reach in to cut a piece. The minced meat sauce is flavourful, and coats every chunk of tofu that you manage to lay your hands on. You best be quick because it won't be uneaten for long!

Price: $13.80 (for small, pictured here)

I'm a sucker for fried youtiao stuffed with prawn paste and dipped in sinful salad cream. Loved that they took the care to pack the salad cream and chicken floss separately, so the fried dough fritters remained crispy.

Price: $13 (for small portion)

I usually order cereal prawns or salted egg sotong, so this was something different. Really enjoyed the crisp bite of the cereal flakes, and the light buttery flavour. The squid was tender and not overcooked at all (as squid so often is). Really well done.

Price: $15.80

After doing quite a bit of research to find a hokkien mee that is relatively undiscovered, my search led to Warong Kim’s Goreng Delights, which is surprisingly a concept of Kim’s Famous Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee at Eunos. The original outlet is made famous by Mr Tan Kue Kim, who is distinguishable by the photo of him wearing a long sleeve shirt and a gold Rolex watch while frying the noodles. For this branch over at Tampines, Warong Kim’s serves the famous hokkien and other Chinese seafood dishes, all of which are halal-certified. Understandably, many people would frown at the thought that there is no pork lard in this, but if the wok hei and taste is able to trump over the addition of pork lard, I will gladly eat this anytime of the day, as many hokkien men stalls might have added pork lard but the overall taste is far from good. I am thoroughly satisfied from my decision as this takeaway packet of hokkien mee from Warong Kim’s, which is the wetter version, has all the essential elements of a good hokkien mee, from the wok hei to the slurp-worthiness of the noodles. Squeeze in the calamansi for that additional zing and mix in the sambal for a satisfying meal.

YUMMMMMMMMY. solid. good meal after church :D sadly had to add egg for $0.80 so i shared half half with vanvan.

I can see why their salted egg dishes are popular. The sauce is creamy and yolky, without the granular texture that sometimes accompanies. The batter is crispy but not overly thick. Yummy!

Price: $10

A seemingly simple dish that is too often massacred, the sambal kangkong here didn't disappoint. Flavour was good and, most importantly, they retained their crunchiness after being cooked at high heat. I did however detect a few small sand grains that led to a few crunchy bites.

Price: $8

A branch of the popular eatery at Sim Lim Square, this newly opened zichar store was crowded even on a weekday night.

The sweet and sour fish was well-executed! The sauce was sweet but not too sticky, and the outer batter crispy, all while the fish inside remained flaky and tender.
