Had these Ann Chin Popiah’s Party Sets recently when the friends came over! These were great for gatherings, with their fun DIY Popiah and Kueh Pie Tee Party Sets, Handmade Yam Cake and DIY Laksa. The Laksa was everyone’s top favourite of the day, but the rest were done very well too.
Loved how the DIY items came with the full range of ingredients you need, so it’s very convenient. The Kueh Pie Tee and Popiah’s crunchy topping especially, were so addictive. They also sell their signature handcrafted popiah skins and kueh pie tee shells on their own as well if you prefer to make your own filling.
Last but not least, we have Ann Chin Popiah, where you can get handmade spring rolls, yam rolls, and their famous popiah. 🌯🥢 The popiah is a must-try, with its fresh and crispy skin and delicious jicama filling with a crunch. And at only $2, it's definitely a steal!
The quality explains the hype. The soft, crunchy skin goes well with the generous filling and it is affordable too! The chili is quite strong but does not overpower the filling.
A heritage brand since 1958, Ann Chin Popiah handmakes their popiah skin which ensures that you are getting the freshest of wraps from each bite. Besides enjoying these delectable treats at their various outlets, you can now order this DIY bundle set of Popiah and Kueh Pie Tee at a price tag of $55 which is good for 3-4 pax. From this bundle, you can roll approximately 10-11 rolls of popiah from the given popiah skin, cooked turnips with sliced carrots and individually packed containers of garlic, chilli padi paste, crispy bits, peanuts, lettuce, eggs, spicy sweet sauce and sweet sauce. Great for family dinners or mini parties, everyone can have a fun time rolling their popiah or filling their kueh pie tee.

$1.70 per pc, fresh and crunchy with thin chewy popiah skin! Will come back for more
The delicate good Kueh Pie Tee should pack a punch with its filling and crispy shell. However, these 4 pcs Kueh Pie Tee takeaway end up with soggy top (we guess commuting steals all the crisp and turn 4 blossoming cups to sodden ones) 🤨
Luckily that the bottom of the cup still got some crunch from the dried shrimps. The sweet turnip & omelette power through each cup along with the sweet chilli sauce make this Super sweet. 🐜 Need to tone it down with a cup of ooh Long tea 🍵😙
Tip 💡 suggest not to do takeaway for this item
One of the famous popiah places in Singapore and we decide to find out if the rave is real and their secret behind the ’Plate Michelin’. The popiah skin is freshly made behind the stall. The fillings are prepared once the popiah skin is ready. We ordered takeaway 4 popiahs.🤘
.
When we open the box and take a bite at popiah. The 2 distinct flavours are spicy and sweet. The popiah skin is dry & chewy. Filling ingredients are egg, carrot, peanut (they cross out shrimp from their banner). The popiah might fare better for sweet tooth peeps. We feel it is too sweet for us and there is something lacking (ingredients wise) in their popiahs.🧐
.
Maybe it is because we order takeaway or their omitted ingredients, we would not queue for this though. 🤓
I was at coronation plaza last week and had the ann Chin popiah there .
The skin was dry and hard and the ingredients were pathetic .
So my popiah crave was less than satisfied.
This led me to the original stall st Chinatown complex and I must say that standards here are still the best .
I’d always ask for my popiah to be spared from the cutting because I like to eat it like a burrito 🌯. It’s much satisfying this way .
The ingredients were fresh and plenty and the skin was lovely- chewy and elastic and soft .
10/10. Hawker food rockz.
I rem when I tabao this back for dinner, it tastes pretty bland and nua nua, I was wondering what’s the fuss abt? I decided to give it another chance by eating it fresh this time. True enough, I finally get to taste the crispy bits inside, but why izzit so freaking sweet? I took another pc from the other end, this time the sweetness was more acceptable. Obviously, the sweet sauce was not evenly spread out. Overall, it’s not bad just a little too sweet to my liking. I personally preferred Auntie’s Kim popiah in Bishan.
$1.60 for each roll! looks kind of empty in this picture but it tasted great! the lack of turnip was compensated by the crunchy bits. i forgot that i added chilli and i only tasted it when it went down my throat and wow it rly woke me up. only gripe i have w this stall is that they didn't cut my popiah properly so when i was trying to eat it, some of the fillings spilled out zzz. but other than that, i rly liked it!!
I have heard how good this popiah is, hence I was v excited to try it out for myself!
(+):
- turnips were extremely juicy and tasty
- just the right amount of sweet sauce, not stingy yet not overly generous to the point where the skin would turn soggy
- generous amount of crunchy bits
- value for money
(-):
- the skin was pretty dry and not as soft/chewy
- ordered one of my popiah with chilli but I only tasted chilli in 2 out of 5 parts of the popiah roll, which meant that the chilli was not evenly spread out
rating: 8/10
Ann Chin Popiah has 7 outlets around Singapore and I was at the Chinatown branch. They also accept bulk orders for their handmade popiah rolls, DIY popiah party sets and kueh pie tee so do keep them in mind if you ever want a different tea party!
Good:
• Fresh and soft skin
• Turnips were well-flavoured
• Popiahs were wrapped and sliced well
Drawbacks:
• Skin was unfortunately not chewy as I hoped to be
• Peanuts and crispy bits were used but I somehow felt that there still wasn't sufficient crunch
• Can be heavier on the garlic
Verdict: 4/5 (I feel that the AMK outlet does it better)
Each mouthful of the popiah ($1.80) is bursting with flavours!
The popiah skin is freshly made, delightfully thin and tender. The highlight is the fried ‘mang kwang’ (turnip), when combined with other standard ingredients including lettuce, egg, the popiah looks simple, yet delicious and addictive!
Cheers to a place that makes their own skins! Ann Chin is probably one of the last few places in Singapore that still does that, which is why it's pohpiah doesn't taste too 'floury'. Thin skin + generous fillings of turnips, fried crispy flour and garlic makes this $1.50 snack so so worth every cent.
Who can ever resist kueh pie tees! Crunchy exterior and tasty turnip with peanut, egg and chilli. Love their handmade skin popiahs as well!
Ann Chin Popiah comes with soft skin, filled with flavourful turnip and a lot of crunchy peanut bits! Note that the stall has a spicy option for their popiah, but their chilli is spicier than that of the average popiah stall so do specify "less chilli" if you are not good with spicy food! Queue can be long on weekends as well!
Was craving for a good popiah so braved to head down to Chinatown during the festivity - however it was a letdown for me .
The popiah skin was hard and dry and the fillings were little - struggling to even hold up the stiff popiah skin .
It was a little too sweet for me as well .
In fact - my stomach felt quite uncomfortable having to digest that hard and stiff skin .
Time to look for an alternative popiah place .
