($6.50) I finally tried their best selling gelato after I have tried their Christmas gelato last 2 years ago? Pistachio was quite creamy, milky and nutty aftertaste.

Sweet tooth craving.

Ice cream flavours from left to right >>> >>> >>>

Strawberry Honey (Classic)
Milk base with strawberry jam and honey. Smooth, sweet, and tarty, but the flavour is a tad light and doesn’t leave much of an impact.

Cereal Milk (Classic)
Milk gelato with cereal bits. Quite rich and milky, fitting its name, but the cereal bits are too fine to notice with a small scoop. A larger scoop is recommended to experience the tiny gritty texture of the cereal bits.

Almond Apple Butter (Premium)
Butter base with caramelised almond brittle and apple jam. My favourite among the flavours I tried. The sweet apple taste is rich and fruity, and the small almond brittle pieces add a great textural contrast that complements the flavour perfectly.

Roasted Pistachio (Premium)
Strong, nutty, and earthy pistachio-based gelato. Said to be their bestseller, it delivers on its promise of a robust, nutty, and earthy flavour. While good, it feels like something is missing, though it’s hard to pinpoint what exactly. Hmm...

Calamansi Sour Plum Sorbet (Classic)
Dopa’s take on a local favourite beverage. It captures the exact taste of the calamansi sour plum drink found in local coffee shops but in gelato form. When it melts, the texture resembles a Slurpee.

(by using KAIKAI - $16) my friend wanted to try their curry chicken w focaccia initally but then I wanted to try other dish. But I saw KAIKAI deal and switched with this instead. But I felt that their curry chicken got quite thick texture and also mild spicy taste for me. Focaccia (bread) was quite crispy and also crunchy with dipping with curry inside.

It is very interesting to see them selling some local dishes like Mee Siam at this place.

But this curry chicken with focaccia attracted me eventually. The curry was surprisingly so rich and tasty that I finished the whole bowl with the focaccia bread. The curry also comes with few pieces of chicken and potatoes.

The rosemary and garlic focaccia really give its fragrant taste when you dipped it with the curry.

The Shelter is a store selling clothing and merchandise, but most people come here to enjoy their foods and drinks also.

You know the weather has been very hectic these few days, so this air-conditioned shop is the perfect place to hide from this hot weather outside.

That’s the reason I choose to go for something refreshing with their grapefruit oolong. A cold brew oolong over house-made grapefruit purée.

However I didn’t taste much of the oolong taste in the drink. But more with the grapefruit purée.

Founded in August 2018 by Leonard Ong, this brand is named for the feel good biological reaction of 'dopamine', and are known for their nut-based gelato.
.
Serving just 8 varieties of flavours daily, their gelato is made using all natural ingredients, kept in their individual pozzetti - a traditional Italian way of serving ice-cream to preserve its freshness and prevent cross-contamination by air.
.
The Roasted Pistachio, in a cup, has a deep robust nutty earthy sweet smoky flavour, and their signature pliant creamy soft texture with a gentle stretch. Finely crushed pistachio nuts lend a grainy texture and added nutty earthy flavour.
.
The Maple Pecan, in a cone, has addictive floral nutty sweet flavour, and the same signature pliant creamy soft texture with stretch. Bits of pecan nuts lend a firm crunch and nutty earthy flavour.

Stumbled upon this cafe at Fook Hai building as I was around Hong Lim market, and it had a decent crowd for an off peak afternoon. Smelled the aroma of the curry and got hungry, and while it isn’t the most wallet friendly, it was one of the more delicious chicken curries I’ve had. The sauce had its balance all right - the consistency, the spice, the coconut milkiness. Chicken was wildly tender, and the best part was the rosemary and garlic focaccia chunks that blended perfectly with the rich curry sauce. They serve other local cuisines as well like Mee Siam and Mee rebus, which all look delicious from their menu. But this is one place I’d bring a friend, both for their excellent coffee and food offerings.

For dessert, I was eyeing their creamy Biscoff gelato ($5.50/ scoop) though the others (will get the Hojicha next time) on display tasted great as well. Milky but not overly so, the kind of buttery, caramelised flavour really came through. Studded with bits of cookie crumbs, it was also not too sweet and was wonderfully smooth. Loving their selection of house-made gelato, I found their Charcoal Matcha Waffle ($3.50) to be even more enjoyable as the texture was a nice in-between of dense and airy. The areas with the matcha batter were slightly softer while the charcoal batter seemed to yield a crisper crunch. And I was most impressed by the fact that the mixed batter had a pleasant sweet aroma with the green edges offering a pronounced roasted tea flavour.

What a great hidden find it turned out to be, The Shelter located in Fook Hai Building boasts quite a unique blend of localised bites and cafe fare. Here for dinner, their Curry Chicken with Rice (S$7) was affordable and of a good portion size. With a rich spiced and well-balanced gravy, the bowl also came with a substantial amount of potato chunks and tender fall-off-the-bones meat. Best post-workout comfort food.

Two scoops for $5 is rly good for Lau Pa Sat.
But you get what you paid for, ice cream isn’t really good quality but decent enough for the price.
Got the pistachio and chocolate flavour.
Definitely not the best ice cream but at least can get a place to sit in a slightly air conditioned place.

The classic Banana Caramel was great as well, exactly like having a creamy rendition of the ripened fresh fruit (unfortunately didn’t really get the caramel flavour). Equally fragrant, the premium Almond & Honey gelato (Double $9, Premium +$1) was sweet and had a mild nutty flavour from the honey, roasted almond paste mix - a lighter tasting option from the lot I got in my opinion.

Back twice since December started, (it has been a hot minute but) I am still loving Dopa Dopa’s artisanal gelatos. Sticking to my favourites, the Ferrero remains a must-order with its foolproof combination of house-made Hazelnut paste, cocoa powder and dark chocolate. Nutty, smooth and delicately chocolate-y.

On the waffle (+$6) was also the newer flavour, Pistachio Praline. The milk gelato base was studded with candied pistachios, pistachio nut bits and yummy swirls of homemade pistachio praline. A lovely number even though I would probably stick to their signature Roasted Pistachio for an earthier kick.
