The only interesting dish we had here was the saba sashimi. Other dishes are nothing even to whisper about. Even Sushi-tei would be better. But Sabar is not a bar, so you don’t have to wait until the Sabbath is over to go there.

Usual price $23.80 but went on Saba day hence 50% off!
This was so worth it. It’s crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside. It’s hands down the best Saba I’ve tasted. Will definitely return to have this again!

Usual price is $25 but $11.90 on Saba day!
Came with 2 pieces of marinated torosaba, 2 pieces of grilled torosaba and 2 pieces of matsumae sushi. This was extremely good as well and definitely worth the price! The fishes were all so sweet that you will want to have more! Definitely coming back here.

Delicious and value for money sushi set. The toro saba was especially nice, fatty and goes really well w the shisho leaf sandwiched between the fish n rice

This is one of my favourite places for grilled saba, especially when they have a 50% off promotion in August which makes it even more worth it! The saba here is grilled until the skin the crisp, but the flesh inside is soft and juicy. Despite saba tending to be more lean, it’s surprisingly fat here at some parts of the fish, which makes it so much tastier. When paired with a drizzle of lemon and grated daikon, it’s really heavenly.

Had dinner with 2 of my girlfriends, the mega saba fish can definitely feed at least 4 people. On top of that, we ordered a sashimi set. Total bill is only $80! So worth it. The food is definitely fresh and I love the grilled taste of the squid. Will come back again!

One of the freshest mackerals I've ever eaten in Singapore. Toro Saba is basically mackeral from the North Pacific coast of Japan and contains over 21% of lipid contents (fats)! You can view it as a sort of premium saba hahaha. Definitely try it out!

An alternative to Unagi Hitsumabushi, the Toro Saba version with teriyaki sauce was really really good. There are 2 ways to eat it - dry or wet. Both ways were really good!

Damage: $16.90++

We also ordered a premium chirashi (1 pax) at ~$18. Accidentally stumbled upon this place while looking around the food town. Being in the quaint little corner restaurant makes me feel like I'm in Japan 😍🎏

The curry is smooth and not too thick - not the kind that makes you feel a little sick and heavy afterwards. 🍛Honestly the saba katsu was much smaller than I thought. Taste wise, the batter is good and fish tastes fresh but a little dry 🤔 if that makes any sense. It's definitely a different type of saba from the usual ones I've had at Korean stalls so I can't say I've anything to compare this to. 😂

P.S. food takes really long to be served. We waited probably around 30 mins - yes, even for raw fish on a bowl of rice.

Nice bento that comes with tempura prawn, karaage chicken and fried salmon! Definitely a good lunch deal in town!

There’s a promo ongoing now and this whole fish was just $12 and this was grilled really well. The skin was slightly charred and crispy and the meat underneath was well seasoned and tender. Squeeze over some lemon to balance out the savoriness of the fish.

$18 and oh so worthhhh. The sashimi on the smaller plate on top was quite fresh and generous. However the main bowl below was more of chopped up salmon, saba, tuna and some octopus. The fish for that bowl wasn’t the best quality but cant complain given the price. The rice could be cooked better though it was abit too clumpy and dry.

Had these at 50% off during their March promo (originally $18 each). Preferred the fresh one as the shime one was too salty (they had marinated it). Both were fresh and tender nevertheless, but still a little pricey.

I don’t eat saba fish coz of the smell, but this is so good that I wish to revisit again! Cosy ambience at this small shop.

Big, juicy and fresh! Very worth the $12.50 on selected days where there is 50% off! Always coming back for more (: the scallops and squid are really awesome too!

The toro Sabar sushi set comes with 2 pieces of grilled Saba sushi+2 pieces of marinade toro-saba sushi+2 pieces of matsumae style sushi+soup+pickles+tofu. If you like mackerel, you will not go wrong here! The marinade and matsumae style Saba goes really well with the ginger and rice. I could taste the unique saba fish with the fats and the sesame rice and everything goes so well together!

Plus! I ate this at 50%off as I dine on Saba day! 3/8/13/18/23/28/30/31 is shown as Saba day currently in the shop! I paid total of almost $15 after GST.

Tips: To celebrate Japan Food Town’s 2nd anniversary, they are also giving a whole day 38% off promo! Applies for the toro-saba sashimi, toro-saba sushi and the grilled toro-saba.

Definitely worth it with the promo! Time to try Sabar!!

Argh I’m hungry again now.
