The special bean curd from YY Kafei Dian offers a delightful culinary experience with its flavourful taste and unique texture.
Accompanied by a generous serving of vegetables, it's not only delicious but also great value for money at just $9.
Highly recommended for those seeking a satisfying dish to go with fluffy rice!
The fluffy doughnut from YY Kafei Dian is delightfully light and airy, with a perfect touch of sweetness, making it an irresistible treat.
Meanwhile, the plain croissant stands out with its wonderful layers and hint of buttery flavour.
Both are excellently crafted and highlight the cafe's commitment to quality baked goods.
Loved the iced milo and iced milk tea.
($2.20) Decided to order for trying their side dish beside their kaya bread. I felt that their egg tart custard was not that bad and not that hard (decent level) but their outer pastry crust was slightly hard to chew thru.
($10) tbh I did enjoy their Hainanese Pork Chop compared to another store beside them. It's much crispy and also crunchy texture for pork chop. The sauce for Hainanese Pork Chop was quite mild spicy and not that spicy that I thought of.
($1.60) Finally tried their best selling kaya bun even though they got a variety of dessert and snacks on the counter. The kaya jam got strong gula melaka taste and also got mild brown colour for jam.
($7) I ordered small size for 1 to 2 pax. For their pork chop and old fashioned french fries was slightly hard texture to chew thru and dry aftertaste as I felt that they deep friend in advance before placing order. It's one of best selling side beside roasted and steamed chicken rice.
($6) I managed to get drumstick as their roasted chicken is sold out once I order lol :") which is good part for chicken that I always get default part such as chicken breast or wings on chicken rice stall or store. unless you order drumstick or other part of chicken. The drumstick was quite tender and a bit of oily. I saw a lot of steamed chicken than roasted chicken hanging inside store. The rice was quite fragrant but slightly oily for me. But then my friend drank their soup finish included mine too :") but the soup otherwise got a bit salty flavour.
If you have not heard of YY Kafei Dian, then I will recommend you try out their kaya butter toast that they make in house and if you are lucky you will be able to order their sugared doughnuts which is unlike your neighbourhood kind. The doughnut has a nice bite to it, and it is neither dry nor dense. The sugar coating gives it a nice sweet finish but it’s all about the texture. The wifey also loves the claypot ee-mian while it’s the first time for me to try their dry hor fun which is at best decent.
Comforting and light-tasting chicken broth paired nicely with the vege and seafood platter. Platter had a wide variety of seafood and meat but they were somewhat on the smaller side. Steamed chicken was nicely flavoured with the light soy sauce, but the meat could be more tender. Chicken rice was great though! Special mention to the pork satay which was tender and fatty in the right places, and was so good with the peanut sauce.
I am so sad I only just found YY Kafei Dian because now it is fluffy old-school buns over a crispy stack of kaya toast every time.
As I am usually on team “toasted” as opposed to “steamed” for my go-to breakfast kaya bread, I was so impressed by how YY Kafei Dian’s rendition delivered the best of both worlds. The interior was so pillowy-soft while the outside spotted a nice char. The texture of the warm, house-made buns was just really good. Served with a lovely pat of butter, the gooey caramel-y spread was superb as well - fragrant, and sweet but not cloying.
Mine was sharing kaya butter toast, sugared donut, claypot and a kopi peng sui dai with the wifey on this cool and rainy new year day. Also, seeing the 9% GST on the receipt has reminded us that 2024 is truly here.
Besides going to YY Kafei Dian for their kaya butter buns, sugar doughnuts and coffee beverages, one shall not sleep on their chicken rice. Chopped to a generous portion, the poached chicken is tender to the bite which complemented perfectly with the chilli sauce and flavoured rice. Everyone has their own unique way and concoction with the sauces, which makes chicken rice such a versatile and enjoyable dish for both locals and tourists alike.
