Indian House brings the bold flavours of North India to the heart of Boat Quay! With authentic vibes and dishes made with pride, every visit is a flavour-packed experience. Even better, #BurppleBeyond gets you a 1-for-1 Chicken dish or 30% off your total bill!

A must-try is the Butter Chicken โ€” tender, marinated chicken in a rich, creamy tomato sauce. Itโ€™s a fan favourite, especially when paired with warm garlic naan.

Mention River Valley and one of the most prominent F&B establishments that is located there would likely include ZAMAS River Valley Restaurant โ€” a mamak-style establishment that had been operating in the said neighbourhood for quite some time now at least. While they do have quite a following at that location especially towards the later part of the day. Considering the popularity it has gained over years, it seems that ZAMAS had gained some confidence in opening its second outlet โ€” this time round at Boat Quay. Located at 83 Circular Road, ZAMAS Boat Quay takes over the former premises of the now-defunct Thaitanium Thai Restaurant โ€” the shophouse unit being rather large and is one that is located near the junction where Lorong Telok meets Circular Road. ZAMAS Boat Quay is rather noticeable from afar โ€” the well-lit ZAMAS signage on the floor outside of the restaurant being pretty much the most prominent landmark for the dining establishment. Inside, the space sees some parts of it walls painted with murals either with the restaurantโ€™s name, or with the skyline of Marina Bay Sands โ€” the tables coming with a Formica-esque pattern but featuring black background and white lines, while the entire establishment takes on an almost monochromatic look save for the dining chairs that features wooden accents. The menu at ZAMAS River Valley Restaurant does differ a little from ZAMAS Boat Quay โ€” the ZAMAS Boat Quay menu features section such as Biryani, Set Meal, Roti John, Murtabak, Nasi Goreng, Noodles, Tandoori, Naan, Masala, Prawn, Cuttlefish, Chicken, Beef, Nasi Putih / Nasi Goreng Dengan Ayam / Daging / Sotong / Udang, Egg, Vegetables, Fish and Soup, Prata and Thosai. Beverages include the standard variety available at mamak-style establishments, which includes Kopi and Teh, as well as a variety of juices, milkshakes and blends, and beverages mixed from syrup.

ZAMAS River Valley Restaurant has been one of those places that we had been visiting on and off โ€” dropping by the establishment quite a number of times on quite a random basis, we had given various items a try; this includes their Plain Prata as well as Cheese Prata, and their Bee Hoon Goreng Ikan Bilis which we found to be really satisfying. One thing that we hadnโ€™t noticed after all these years even though it was an item listed on the menu was the Prata Tsunami โ€” an item which we had actually been hunting high and low for uncommon Roti Prata offerings around the island. Based on the description on the menu, the Prata Tsunami is a dish that features two pieces of Plain Prata, Curry and two boiled eggs โ€” there is also another variant named the Prata Tornado, which is an item that we did not recall seeing at ZAMAS River Valley Restaurant, features three pieces of Plain Prata, boneless mutton, curry, and two boiled eggs.

One thing noted about the Prata Tsunami when it turned up at the table was that it also comes with a dollop of sambal chili on the side. Basically unlike the usual Roti Prata, the Prata Tsunami comes with the curry drenched on top of the Roti Prata above the poached eggs even. Essentially, this means that the Roti Prata had become all soft, having absorbed all of the curry gravy all over. The curry that was drenched over our order of the Prata Tsunami is the fish curry; the curry being sufficiently rich and tangy without feeling anywhere near watered down. Poached eggs were done decently with molten yolk that eagerly bursts as one pokes through with a fork, though the egg whites probably hints that more cooking time is probably required to achieve the most desirable consistency. As one attempts to pair everything up with the sambal chili provided at the side, this is where things start to change a little โ€” truth to be told, we really love our Roti Prata in Singapore to come with a little bit of sambal chili just like how one would expect their Roti Canai to be. Here, the sambal chili carried a deep savouriness that had an earthy undertone โ€” one with an obvious hint of anchovies but also rather unforgiving in its level of spiciness that it quite nearly gets to the limited even for those tolerable to moderate levels of spiciness; definitely packed a fiery punch that tickled our tastebuds and caught us off-guard with the increased levels of spiciness as we dug in further. Overall, quite a decent offering though one that is albeit pricey at $6. Do note that not all staff at ZAMAS Boat Quay seem to understand English well โ€” there were clear instances of miscommunications and confusion by the staff attending to us whom just have difficulty understanding simple questions; probably something that would get better over time. Still, a great addition to the neighbourhood for especially for those looking for supper considering how they seem to be opened from 11am to 5am the next day on a daily basis.

The Mask survived the COVID pandemic and it is now drawing the CBD crowd with their lunch promotions, which are generally western fares comprising pastas, baked rice and meat dishes for around $10 - $12 per dish! They are generally affordable and you may wish to visit for lunch if you happen to be at Circular Road.

Today, we ordered the black pepper half spring chicken, which comes with a really generous serving of grilled chicken served alongside fries and salad. The fries were thick-cut and served piping hot, so it was a really great side. The chicken meat was more tender than it looked although we thought the exterior was a little too salty. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

The dish is served with a small dish of black pepper gravy that is pretty powerful - you should try a little first to see whether you are comfortable with the spice level. ๐Ÿ˜ It adds a pretty nice and different flavour to the chicken, and makes it more peppery than it is salty.

Pretty worth it for $10++! However, you may need to wait a while for a table as the restaurant gets pretty crowded during lunchtime these days.

Sirloin beef slices served with Demi Glace sauce, salad and fries.

Restaurant is pretty quiet for a Saturday evening

Lachcha paratha @ $5

We decided not to go with the usual naans selection and opted for this which based on the description seems like it's normal prata. But it's rly tasty and the texture is good to hold the curries well.

If other Indian restaurants offer this too I might forgo naans for it just to try and see if it's something most Indian restaurants cannot go wrong with.

Chicken tikka masala @ $16

When I say curry, I mean sauce. Another good dish that goes extremely well with the bread that we ordered (lachcha paratha). The chicken chunks are also not too dry like how it can be with curries at other places. The taste is slightly stronger than the other curry we ordered (mutter paneer), goes better with bread than on its own.

Used 1for1, so it's two curries for $16, super worth it!

Will take better photos next time that shows the chicken.

Mutter Paneer @ $15

When I say curry, I meant sauce. This is a tomato based dish which includes peas and cheese. Goes perfectly well with the lachcha paratha bread that we ordered. There's a good kick to the taste but it's not too strong or overpowering. Can be taken on its own but best with the bread.

Used 1for1, so it's two curries for $16, super worth it!

Paneer pakoda (6pcs) @ $14

Deep fried cottage cheese that's really tasty. Think there's additional seasoning sprinkled on to give it an extra kick, should be some kind of spice. The dip that comes with it goes really well with the cheese sticks.

Super yummy!

Butter milk @ $5

Again, feels like food seasoning put into a drink, but quite an interesting taste.

But probably just going to try this once and then going back to the good old lassi next time.

Jaljeera @ $2

Apparently it's water + cumin and some salt and maybe other spices. Feels like putting food seasoning into a drink. Acquired taste. But $2, why not give it a try?

Naan was quite average, but maybe because we ordered takeaway, it wasnโ€™t as good unfortunately. We actually got it as part of a meal consisting of butter chicken accompanied with garlic naan (2 thin pieces of this) for $24.

We pre-ordered this on Eatigo with 50% off at 5pm! This place also has Burpple 1-for-1 deals if you want flexibility in timing of order. The staff is quite responsive on WhatsApp so that made ordering very easy and convenient.
