More Reviews of good food at The Gyu Bar

Rlly rlly good.

Strong clean flavour and the toppings were all great, esp the fresh veggies

This is a place that pays attention to the details of the food. The difference between fake atas places and actl refined Japanese place is honestly very easy to tell. When even the simplest things like the soups and salads are done well, you can be assured they know their stuff.

And the gyu bar makes the cut, it's one of those places.

The heat is very raw, even though it's not as hot as normal when this kind of chili is used. The spices are somewhat reminiscent of instant noodles, as are the softer than normal noodles.

The beef cubes are the real deal though. Even though they're braised, it's not the kind that's braised to the point of breaking apart, it's melt in your mouth only because it's wagyu. The flavour was on point as well

Overall it's alright, while the beef was good the conception of the dish isn't polished

The sakura ebi were rlly good and even tho the texture wasn't perfect, it added much complexity and umami to the salad, which is otherwise well executed too

Blown away by this!

This limited-time only sukiyaki incorporates favourite flavours of Singapore to pay tribute to the nation’s 57th birthday.

We had the 250g Assorted Platter of Hida, Miyazaki, and Olive Wagyu Sirloin ($328++ for dine-in, $268+ for takeaway) that is good for 2 pax and each set comes with assorted vegetables and tofu, konnyaku noodles, two bowls of Hokkaido rice, and raw Okinawa egg as a dip. If you are dining in, you will get to enjoy a platter of seasonal starters including the uni yukke cone. What is unique in this sukiyaki is that it uses house-made warishita and infused with fresh peeled tomatoes, with optional add-ons of chilli padi and deep-fried garlic chips on the side if you wish for a touch of spiciness and extra flavour. The meats will be prepared in two styles of sukiyaki, kanto and kansai.

For those who enjoy a variety of quality wagyu, highly recommended to go for the Assorted Platter of Hida, Miyazaki, and Olive Wagyu Sirloin. Melt-in-your-mouth texture, these wagyu beef is very juicy with rich and umami flavour. My personal favourite is the Olive Wagyu which I read that it is one of the rarest steaks in the world. Wow!

Since 1993, 29 August has been declared as the official yakiniku day and to commemorate this event, The Gyu Bar has curated a yakiniku-focused menu ($108++ per person), available daily for dine-in from 27 August to 5 September during lunch and dinner. This menu will feature an array of premium quality A5 grade wagyu from Japanese prefectures such as Miyazaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima and Hokkaido, all grilled over the smokeless Shinpo grills.

The meal starts off with a refreshing appetiser of chilled organic tomato from Kumamoto, topped with mani, uni and ikura to whet your appetite. It is followed with the highlight of the meal, the eight different wagyu cuts grilled directly in front of you, served with the soup of the day and steamed rice from Hokkaido. Each of the cuts from the beef tongue to chuck roll, sirloin, tenderloin, flap meat, rump, short and chuck rib has a different texture and marbling to it so that you can have the full yakiniku experience from this meal. Depending on your preferred intensity and richness, each of the cut has a unique characteristic and flavour to it. My favourite has got to be the chuck rib for the wonderful meat to fat ratio, and it literally melts like butter the moment you put into your mouth. You don’t not need much teeth power to even bite through it. You will be given five condiments to pair and enhance the grilled beef, with the yakiniku tare sauce, garlic & leek sauce, pink salt, wasabi and garlic chips.

This contemporary Japanese dining bar was one of the restaurants I was supposed to dine in before the dining-in restrictions kicked in and fortunately, I managed to enjoy their wagyu dons now at the comfort of my home. There is a total of three bentos that feature the premium Japanese wagyu prepared in aburi, yakiniku or sukiyaki. Each order of the Signature Wagyu Don comes with a complimentary side of truffle edamame that you can snack on as well.

The bento that has the aburi wagyu is the Wagyu Uni Chirashi Don ($58nett), a colourful display of wagyu cubes, Hokkaido uni, ikura, diced takuan, tamagoyaki and cucumber while the Truffle Wagyu Sirloin Sukiyaki Don ($58nett) is a magnificent showcase of wagyu sirloin prepared sukiyaki-style, topped with ikura, freshly shaved truffles and onsen egg over a bed of truffle rice. As expected, not a single grain of rice or ingredients are left behind. The whole meal was such a luxurious treat that I will highly recommend everyone to get. Besides these dons, you can get The Gyu Bar’s shabu shabu and sukiyaki sets that are perfect for two pax.

Takeaways and deliveries are available daily from 11:00am to 9:00pm, and you can place your orders by calling the hotline at 9150 3164 or visit the below link. There is free delivery to a single location for orders above $150 or a delivery fee of $8 applies for an order above $60.

Am gobsmacked by how delicious this Truffle Wagyu Sirloin Sukiyaki Don is! A beautifully crafted bento, it has thin but large slices of fat-laced Wagyu beef laid on fragrant truffle-seasoned Japanese rice, as well as fresh pops of ikura scattered all over. The “cherry on the cake” is a perfect onsen egg that is skilled in putting on a spectacular #eggporn performance.
There are a couple of options offered by @thegyubar.sg for delivery / takeaway (each Don comes with truffle edamame and a simple salad for now) but this would be the one I’d reorder in a flash, especially since the promotional price for it is $58 nett (usual: $68+).

Reminder to self not to be deceived by the photos on their website and the pictures that bloggers post on Instagram. Portion of Uni is quite small so ration it well. Else it will be gone in your first mouthful.
