We got all types of skewers and they were wonderfully tender and full of smoky flavour. The chicken gizzards, chicken liver and chicken heart stood out for me, which is surprising because I don’t eat innards often or by choice.

But somehow these innards did not have that off-putting smell that usually permeates your nostrils before you even take a bite.

Everything was good except the eggplant and chawanmushi. The chilli with the eggplant was not lacked depth in flavour while the chawanmushi was just tooooo eggy for my liking with 4 types of egg.

Conclusion: Stick to the skewers at the skewers bar

I was bent on living “austerely” when the stringent circuit breaker measures were announced. A good month of self reflection and awareness of what a “charmed” life we had and may have taken for granted. But a few days into the CB mode and I realise lessons and reflections could still be done without forsaking good meals.
This particular dinner was that example of a good meal - Japanese skewers generously seasoned with salt pepper and sauce typical of Kushiyaki skewers.
I especially liked the well handled chicken heart and gizzard - excellent companion to a chilled glass of beer. But there are other great skewers like the meat balls which has well-meaning bites of ginger and other vegetables, and the other standard meat skewers of lamb chicken and pork.
Note that either Skewer Set A/B comes with a bigger slab of unagi (as pictured), on a bed of Japanese rice which is best eaten with the onsen egg.
All these were part of the special takeaway/ delivery menu during this COVID period. The skewer bar provides free delivery for orders above $40/ $5 delivery with a min order of $30.

Best of both worlds with one of Singapore's local favourites packed into a quick snack. The onigiri was savoury, sweet and spicy all in one, and well stuffed with fillings. Quite a fun alternative to eating a plate of it.

The pasta is full of savoury richness from the pork lard and hae bi hiam. Although this is super addictive, I would recommend sharing so that you can try the skewers here.

This modern Japanese skewer joint features yakitori classics like grilled chicken heart / liver / gizzard / wings etc but is also popular for its innovative items with local elements such as the four ton chawanmushi, nasi lemak onigiri, bacon and lychee skewers, and hae bi hiam pasta.

Run by a group of friends, this fun-loving bar has perfected the formula for a good night out. Skewers and beers in an intimate space that's still roomy enough to fit groups. Star dishes include the spicy Eggplant with TSB Signature Chilli ($5) and the protein-loaded Four Ton Chawanmushi ($4.50), which is a delectable triple eggs combo — century, salted and quail. Also worth ordering is their Whole Seabass ($22), fresh catch grilled then slathered in chilli paste & lemongrass for a zesty finish!
