$6 for this generous hearty bowl of goodness , digging the fried yam pieces n 2 types of chilli for pairing
We liked the refillable soup & prawn paste chicken .
From the mixed rice & drink stall, enjoyed the quick lunch.
Chosen braised pork belly, egg tofu and deep fried chicken wing.
Not bad indeed.
The old stalwart still does it best. That wonderful crunch, the super yummy marinade. And doesn’t it look just beautiful! Even good dabao. Doesn’t come cheap though
Had high hopes as it was one of their signature dishes. However the salted egg sauce didn’t survive the wait of 20 mins before I could eat it. Solidified and was wierd. Probably one dish that must eat immediately and not ideal for dabao or wait
Haven’t eaten this in forever! The famous har cheong gai has literal sound effects - a very loud crunch when you bite in. Can taste the salted fish & crunchy beansprouts in salted egg fried rice. The salted egg pork ribs were boneless and amazingly tender too. Not cheap but such a satisfying dinner!
Classic chicken rice done extremely well. Chicken was tender and delicious, especially paired with the ginger and chilli. Rice was so fragrant and we couldn't help ordering seconds. Porached Spinach and Sambal Kang King was also decent but I would totally recommend getting the Crispy Beancurd - soft on the inside and crisp outside, especially addictive when paired with the accompanying mayo.
Established since 1979, this heritage brand serves the most pricey rendition around, being among the forerunners to transit from humble eatery to full fledged zi char restaurant.

Their poached chicken is the star, to the extent that roast chicken is only available by advance order. The chicken meat is certainly satisfying with a tender bouncy chew, and fresh sweet savoury flavour.
.
The rice is decadently fluffy and buttery, with a glossy sheen from the chicken fat, having bold savoury sweet grainy oily flavour.
.
The iconic trio of dark sweet soy sauce with salty sweet savoury flavour, bright garlic chili with sharp spicy herbal sweet flavour, and crushed ginger with vegetal earthy herbal sweet spice flavour, completes this.

My favourite is the BBQ squid ($12 for small). It is not as spicy as the stingray but it is very garlicky and fragrant. The squid is well cooked and there is no rubberiness at all - love this (regretted ordering the small portion lol)!
The BBQ stingray ($20 for large) is soft, juicy and the sambal is fiery🔥 - pretty shiok with a squirt of lime juice and cincalok (fermented small shrimp with onion). We ended up scrapping the stingray clean!
Somehow this large portion is the minimum order, 4 of us didn't finish it
It's pretty solid, quite thick and got a bit of heat. Could do with more spices and more umami
Mutton ribs pieces were rlly tender but the bones were v annoying. Overall very overpriced
With heart attack fried rice, potato wedges
It's pretty good, with sufficient meatiness and tenderness. Flavour was there as well, and quite addictive due to the size. Unfortunately there's still a bit of chew, but acceptable.
The fried rice is actl q mild, is on the softer side too so more like flavoured rice
Idk why it was so mindblowing the last time I had it(few years ago? Maybe I haven't had good steak then) but while this is good, personally I wouldn't pay so much again. It's definitely not mindblowing, there's no crust either(nor crispiness)
