Fragrant and sweet, with crunchy edges and big variety of filling. Found them not as spongy as SL II / choc and spice / bake of. Quite different from usual muffins - it has wokhei / a charred taste, it’s the same taste when you eat a San lou horfun full of wokhei at a zichar restaurant (yes oddly specific I know). I was initially confused but eventually I decided I liked it.

When I had it the next day it tasted more spongy and cakey. Ingredients are very generous, for every flavour.

Choc was quite crisp, and had a lot more charred flavour. There's choc on top + inside; was sweet. It’s nice but a bit too sweet.

Candied orange was nice and bitter, more refreshing than the rest. Peanut choc was nutty and crunchy. Almond apple was good - juicy tender apple, almonds paired well. Cranberry had a distinct flavour.

Oreo is p sweet. Raisin one had golden raisin, big and juicy but I prefer red raisins, this was q sweet, I don’t prefer these 2 flavours.

Overall thought they veered slightly on the sweet side. I generally liked them, and would queue for them again.

The news came shocked to many people when they suddenly announced their closure in October if there’s no successor taking over the business.

Uggli Muffins is not stranger to many people as they has been selling their pastries for many years, which has gained their recognition for the muffins.

Very unique kind of muffins in naturally irregular shape, which they all are handmade and baked freshly batches by batches. The muffins are all browned in dark shade, caramelised and crusty.

The long queue has always been there and of course now would be the same, but the owner is really nice as they will frequently share the some sample to the people who are queueing. These samples are usually just freshly baked from the oven, so try it while it is still warm.

Since you have been queuing for so long, why not just grab boxes of it back? Each box would come with 10 pieces plus 2 complimentary. Get the mixed flavours and the owner would randomly select for you with flavours they have for the day.

Perfect for gift or just enjoy it at home. I really enjoy the texture and its fragrance flavours. Do grab and try it while they still open.

I was gifted this box of ‘ugly’ muffins which appeared in an irregular shape with a crusty and caramelised top. Appearance-wise these definitely did not stand out in any way however it actually tastes better than it looks. My favourite goes to the classic chocolate muffins. The muffins are not too sweet with a nice buttery aroma. It was slightly hard when eaten at room temperature but reheating it does make it better.

The Uggli muffins were unlike the usual moist, dense and cakey muffins. It had a chewy bite to it. As it was freshly baked, you could smell a strong buttery aroma when tearing into the Uggli Muffin. Unsurprisingly, the muffins were also generously stuffed with toppings. I loved the macadamia toppings especially, every bite had a piece of macadamia in it.

Light, slightly crispy at the top, aromatic. We ordered the chocolate, Oreo and cranberry flavours. The Oreo and chocolate flavours were the best to me.

Friendly store owners! Nicer when hot, feels quite greasy but not heavy. $14 for 12 muffins.

Baked fresh, these muffins taste better than they look! Can't rmb the flavours as the stall owner helped us to mix and match based on availability. Love the charred ends! The queue was about half-an-hour wait, and the stall uncle kindly came to offer us some muffins.

Uggli Muffins at Toa Payoh are really good and value for money! They provide a wide variety of flavours such as banana and walnut, blueberry, orange peel and cranberry, all priced at $1-something and baked fresh. Really liked the caramelised top and the interesting flavours

Oh, so affordable and decent! Not the best hawker muffin (AJ’s got my heart! ❤️) but close to the best. Perhaps because of the tiny base, it got a lil’ dry and hard. The iconic squarish base was huge and disproportionate to the teeny base, a tad too ‘crispy’ and dry for my liking

Not the best-looking, nor traditional round-topped banana 🍌 walnut muffin. This was squarish and less “puffed” up. But hey! Do not pass your judgement too soon, at least not until you’ve smelled the buttery, vanilla-ey aroma of this squarish little thing. Indeed when it comes to food, it’s not all about looks. Disregarding the non-typical look of this muffin, this muffin is worth 8/10 in terms of taste! I love how there were chunky banana chunks within the muffin, and walnut bits around the muffin top. AJ’s muffin still wins my heart - I’m a sucker for their streusel muffins. While the walnut bits were not as generous as AJ’s this is a close runner-up!

What an ugly muffin ($1.20/pc or $12 for 12pcs;), but the smell and taste is buttery and fragrant.

Plus who could fault a seller who distributes complimentary ugly samples to eat while you queue in line?

The man who sells it is also interesting. He list 12 types of muffins on his menu, and when I tried to order a box of 12 and select some of the flavors, his response was: “ Let’s not make things complicated...”

So apparently, only noobs look at the menu. The pros ask him what’s on the menu today...

And p.s: everyone has to pay and help themselves to their own change. So hope you’re good at maths!

Be prepared to queue for at least half an hour especially during meal times for these unique muffins that taste nothing like the usual ones! It was very nice of the owners to give out free samplers while customers queue.

Feel free to ask for recommendations from the friendly owner who allows trying especially if it’s your first time. I asked for an assortment and here’s what I got: Oreo, chocolate, cranberry, orange peel and a special savoury flavour - fermented beancurd. As the uncle described, it’s for adventurous eaters of a higher level. Personally not a fan, but I could really taste the fermented saltiness with a touch of spice. I was also given a free orange peel muffin! Would have loved to try their popular banana muffin which was sold out way earlier.

There’s no defining muffin shape, hence the name uggli. While some might find it odd, I personally enjoyed the crispy surface and edges and the moist fluffy interior.

We got 12 pcs in total (chocolate, oreo, walnut, cranberry) & the boss even gave us one extra free which was his special flavour of the day (orange almond chocolate chip) so we essentially got 13 muffins for $12! We queued for about 30 mins on a Saturday morning bc we had to wait for the muffins to bake (but this just means that their muffins are fresh out of the oven when we buy them) & the boss even gave out a free muffin to us to try while we were queuing! Taste wise, the muffins were really good! It was slightly burnt & crispy on the outside & soft & buttery on the inside (just the way we like it). One of the best muffins we’ve tried so far & it’s so affordable! Would definitely be back for more!!!! 🤤🤤🤤

I was enticed by the mushroom & herbs muffin offered from the other reviews I read about Uggli Muffins, but after queuing for 30 min on a weekday afternoon, I was disappointed to learn that there were no savoury flavours on sale that day. The boss then let me try a chocolate muffin which was good, but I really wanted something savoury. Seeing my hesitant expression, he generously offered me a selection of random flavours of muffins on the house 😆 This was on top of the free muffin he had given out to the long queue of customers while they were waiting! All the muffins are of small-medium size, and can be finished in about 5 bites.

🧁 Cranberry: A generous sprinkling of almonds covers the top of the muffin, while the body of the muffin was CHOCK full of cranberries. I really enjoyed those last few bites.

🧁 Chocolate: The chocolate flavour of the muffin took the form of chocolate chips/rice embedded in the vanilla batter. It was enjoyable and not overwhelmingly indulgent.

🧁 Prune (special): A huge, soft and almost-stodgy prune was hidden in the middle of the muffin's body. I quite liked the blend of flavours, but it may not be so palatable to some.

🧁 Banana walnut: A generous layer of caramelised banana slices covered the top of the muffin, with a few walnuts here and there in the muffin body. However, my personal preference is for the banana to be inside the muffin body itself, rather than as a caramelised layer.

Taste first, looks seconds - am lucky to still have these piping hot from the oven even though I reached at 3pm on a weekend. The boss is super kind, and even offered me a try since I'm first time here (glad I got my hands on the raisin, Oreo, chocolate and raspberry ones. Particularly love their plump raisins. Hope to try their exotic flavours e.g. shiitake and herbs but heard it is seasonal

Can definitely smell the butter from afar

($12 for 12)

Was looking for the stall, but the fragrant buttery aroma easily brought me to the right direction 😂 Queue was short but you’d still have to wait a bit - owner was super friendly and gave out yummy muffin crumbs to everyone. They have quite a number of flavours on the menu but they are not always all available. I asked for a mix and got the chocolate, cranberry, banana, Oreo, etc. + a free 13th one (woohoo cheap thrills)!

The best part of these unassuming babies for me is definitely the crisp browned top. I’m also not a huge fan of muffins cause I usually find them too cakey and heavy for me, but these weren’t. A great no frills snack to have, best enjoyed fresh or after a quick toast!

I kept them in fridge and heat up in an oven toaster for about 5mins at 150 to 180 degrees. And it is just like how it is, crispy crust and butter sponge. It smells so good too.
