More Reviews of good food at Love Confectionery

Absolute delight near the office from this nostalgic old school bakery. This gem does fuss free small breads and cakes at prices you can hardly find around Singapore. They added color (just like the sprinkles) to a mundane work day โœจ

Love Confectionery has been around since the late 1970s. For a shop to be around so long, surely the stuff they sell have to be good.

One of their most eye catching array of bakes they have, is definitely the colorful butter-cream cakes.

Cakes are light and spongy, the cream just tasted so nostalgic. By 2pm, the shelves already empty except for 1 last tray of cakes.

Love Confectionery is located really far away from our house, but we're glad we went out of our way to try their bakes๐Ÿ˜. Their Buttercream Cake is so fragrant, light and fluffy that we found ourselves polishing a slice off in no time๐Ÿฐ. Love that there are many toppings you can choose to add to the cake, like peanut, almond, or chocolate sprinkles๐Ÿซ, but we found ourselves liking the peanut๐Ÿฅœ and plain versions the most! They offer a variety of other cakes, breads๐Ÿฅฏ and snacks as well, such as Pandan Cake and Custard Bun. Really appreciate such bakeries with affordably priced, wide variety and delicious bakes, wish that it was nearer to us though ๐Ÿ˜ญ.

Old school cakes ($1.50 each)
Flavours: peanut, almond, lotus seeds

Super soft, super creamy. What else can you ask for in such traditional pastry cakes?

The uncle is really cute and when being asked how much are the cakes, he started counting in hokkien ๐Ÿ˜…

A passerbyโ€™s โ€œThey sell the best pandan cakesโ€ piqued my interest to give it a go. This shop sits by a stretch of shops from yesteryear, selling a variety of old school bakes. While I had no fate with the seemingly famous pandan cake, there were other sponge cakes with the most nostalgic toppings - hundred and thousands, chocolate rice, almonds and peanuts. These traditional little cakes were so airy they simply melted in the mouth.

Itโ€™s very hard to find old school bread from these traditional shop and we get so excited when we found them here!! These luncheon meat buns cost only 80 cents each, itโ€™s been long since we saw a bread that cost less than a dollar!! They are so super soft and itโ€™s stuffed with a huge chunk of luncheon meat in it too. Omg!!! This is just a simple bread but we had so much joy indulging in them! Simplicity and so comforting! Fyi, these were bought for breakfast tmr but we couldnโ€™t resist it so we decided to eat them now over a cup of hot drink for supper! โ €

Still my first love and yay ! They are back on shelves .

An old school bakery with an old baker in his late 70s but still so passionate about his bakes and breads.

The best old school sponge cakes you can find .

The cakes are light and fluffy. You will not feel stuffed even if you scoff down an entire slice. A good choice for a delicious tea break or

I love everything ole school .. ..

The sight and smell of these traditional bakeries , traditional ways of baking , cakes creamed in traditional ways , that familiar smile from the elderly baker ...

Even after a full lunch at Alexandra village , I can still Chomp down on a few of these at ago .

Perfectly soft and light , with very light creaming just enough to hold the toppings .

Look at that bright green pandan sponge ๐Ÿคฃ

Love Confectionery is so old school you will not find the trendiest of cakes here except some very nostalgic butter cream cakes ($1.50/pc) coated with rainbow sprinklers, chocolate rice, peanut powder and almond flakes.
.
The texture of the cakes were so cottony soft I had difficulty picking them up with the tongs while at the shop. The cake itself and the cream are not too sweet so there is no guilt even if I had one too many.

The local traditional bakery scene is depleting with many of such old school bakeries closing down gradually. Love confectionery is one of those thatโ€™s still going strong and yes, their bakes are simple, classic, but the taste is here to leave an impression.

Even trying to pick up these slices of sponge cake from the tray was a problem as they were so soft and toppled easily. If you really encounter difficulty, the baker uncle would gladly help you with it. The interior was a little on the dry side, although there were 2 layers of fresh cream sandwiched in between. Each cake slice is topped with a thick layer of cream and topping. But the choice of toppings were of much nostalgia, such as the rainbow rice, chocolate rice and grounded peanut that evoked childhood memories. Especially the grounded peanut of a fragrant nuttiness.

Signature Sponge cake

When it comes to cakes and desserts , I stick by the mantra less is more .

With the trends of Mille crepes , colourful rainbow cakes , this cake and that cake in all sorts of cream and colours and textures and flavours , sometimes all you want is a good ole traditional cake.

I have patronised love confectionary for years โ€”a pretty hidden from sight bakery just next to Alexandra village Hawker ( near the hdb shop house ). The Chef baker is so friendly and I am appreciative that he keeps up with his art of baking even at the age where most would have retired .

The sponge cakes here are out of the ordinary - so moist with a good eggy flavour and not too sweet .

The trick is to buy a whole round sponge cake and have the Uncle help you cut the cakes and pack them into 2 boxes - one for the afternoon tea and one for supper . It is really that good .

The Uncle also bakes a whole good variety of Hainanese type sweet breads which will sure take you down memory lane - back to the good old days .

Probably one of the few remaining, the shop will capture any passerby's attention as it is packed with tons and tons of pineapple tarts during cny period. But if you wish to make a random purchase, you will only leave empty handed as all of the tarts are already reserved.
.
I came across the shop 3 years back.
First year: I left with disappointment.
Secondly year: when I realized that cny is near, it was already too late and I had to shamlessly beg the uncle to sell me one, which he reluctantly did.
This year: I bear in mind and made reservations 1.5months prior and never look back. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ™Œ

Passed by my favourite old-school confectionary and just had to grab these sliced cakes, each one crammed full with their respective toppings. Not pictured are two pieces of their pandan cake, my ultimate pick for over 10 years now, which is very elusive because it sells out extremely quickly.

Made a stop at this old-school bakery at Alexandra on Friday and was so, so elated to see two blocks of my favourite pandan cake still up for grabs. It sells out terribly quickly, so I lost no time in claiming them mine.

It's been ages since I last had this, but it is exactly how I remember it to be: immensely fragrant yet subtle and not overpowering on the palate; the crumb light, moist and cottony soft โ€“ I suspect far more so than any other pandan chiffon cake that ever existed or will exist โ€“ nearly dissolving involuntarily in the mouth as I chew.

And of course, while making my purchase at the confectionary, I had the thought in my head to photograph the cake on the Jamie Oliver board that @missmandyy just gifted me earlier in the week. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Peanut and almond cakes! Love love the cakes from this shop at Alexandra market

More old school cakes! Originally wanted to feature Love Confectionary but uncle said they were from the 70s. Anyway, their pandan cakes & custard puffs are the bomb!

These old fashioned cream cakes were truly a ๐Ÿ’Ž! Itโ€™s very hard to find them nowadays and they have a nostalgic taste which we adores! Their cream cakes are our favourite and itโ€™s available in a variety of flavours and toppings, we love the chocolate rice, almond flakes & rainbow sprinkles. They are also reasonably priced at $1.50 each. Very light, fluffy and soft, these cakes are best served anytime of the day! Pandan cake were also very tasty, and itโ€™s only $1 each! All their cakes arenโ€™t too sweet for our liking and we always have difficult choosing our choice as we are spoilt for choices!! Make your way down to grab a few cakes if you are nearby, you will love them as much as we do! โ €
