More Reviews of good food at Balestier Road Hoover Rojak (Whampoa Makan Place Block 90)

My FAV rojak of all time!! Ok it’s not like I’ve had that many rojaks in my life because honestly I just keep going back to this. The sauce is very flavourful and well-balanced, calamansi is prominent and I liked the use of ginger flower which gave a unique aroma. It is well integrated with the ingredients, comprising cucumber, youtiao, lettuce, beansprout, turnip, pineapple, taupok, and jellyfish. I love that there is jellyfish, it’s not common. The rojak is liberally topped with roasted crunchy peanuts.

I don’t like century egg but my bf does so I ate a bit of the whites, it was surprisingly palatable.

TLDR my fav rojak ever

A plate of rojak filled with bean sprouts, cucumber, lettuce, turnip, mango, jellyfish, dough fritters and tau pok tossed in prawn paste then sprinkled with a generous amount of peanuts. The dough fritters and tau pok are pre-cut beforehand hence they are not as crispy as they can be. The fruits and vegetables are fresh and I like that they include jellyfish which added more bite and texture to this dish.

bean sprouts, cucumbers, turnip, guava, pineapple, mangoes, taupok and you tiao mixed well in sweet, tangy, and a bit of spicy sauce.
Don’t forget to add the century egg ($1 for 1 egg)..
💰$5.
📍Hoover Rojak.
Block 90 Whampoa drive, #01-06.

Love it or hate it, rojak is a polarizing delicacy that’s essentially a fruit salad with dough fritters mixed in a fermented prawn paste. There are several places that do a mean plate of rojak and one of the best has got to be Hoover Rojak, which I grew up eating from. What makes them stands out is their consistency and quality in every plate, from using the torch ginger flower in the mixture to the addition of jellyfish and green mango besides the main staple of dough fritters, pineapple and radish.

It will be better when u eat at the hawker centre. This is the only rojak stall that put jellyfish inside their rojak. Other rojak is too common for me. This rojak tend to be different frm other rojak stalls. I remember @fatboygoodeats told me that rojak pic is very to snap because it is very messy. If u all want know where let me tell u now. Name:Balestier Hoover Rojak Address:Blk 90 Whampoa Drive #01-06 Whampoa Food Centre Singapore 320090 Operating Hours:1030 to 2130hrs Closed on Every Tuesdays.

I think it's popular because their sauce is really very thick!

Only my favorite rojak from my favorite neighborhood. And I think I just walked past @fatboo's table! Small world :)

My favourite rojak stall in Singapore. The prawn paste sauce enveloping the ingredients in this rojak is well- balanced: sweet (in a good way), savoury and rich, plus the generous serving of crushed peanuts gives a good crunch. The fruits and veg are fresh, and the youtiao crispy. The best part is that they serve jellyfish in their rojak! Have been eating this since young and it never fails to impress.

Aside from the famous orh lua in Whampoa food centre, one of the other must order dishes here is Hoover rojak. Not only are the fruits and vegetables they use so fresh and crispy, I absolutely love the creaminess of the century egg with the rojak sauce. Definitely a must try even though queue times may peak at around 45 minutes!

Not bad. Pretty unique with the jelly fish.

a twist to the old school snack. One word describes this dish. "Rojak".

All tossed, turned and tumbled in prawn paste, chilli sauce and lotsa crushed peanuts. It is sweet, salty and spicy. Every component became one with the gooey sauce. As much as I adore eating this, I wished that the youtiao and taupok could be crispier. This is a soggy version. The sauce takes the main stage whilst the rest are just supporting cast. Still yummy tho!

It means an "eclectic mix" in colloquial malay. 🔸🔸
Hoover Rojak was established since 1961, started as a pushcart in Toa Payoh. The owner passed away in August and the stall is now managed by his son.

I have not eaten this for many years and today I revisited the Whampoa area. Brought back memories when I used to frequent the neighborhood when I was little. This plate of rojak had almost the ingredients that I like. Pieces of guava, pineapples, cucumbers, turnips, youtiao, taupok, beansprouts and jellyfish all tossed, mixed and turned in a delectable gooey prawn paste sweet and tangy sauce. Very generous huge sprinkling of crunchy peanuts. Lime zest and ginger flower added for a more citrussy mouthfeel. All kinds of flavors bursting harmoniously at one go.
🔸🔸
My only grouse ... I wished the youtiao (dough fritters) were toasted. It kinda felt soft and limp, also echoed by another lady customer seated at my table. Other than that, it was still good.

Bib Gourmand (Michelin Guide Singapore 2017)

Some call it fruit salad.
Here, just eat and no worries whether it's the best or not.

$4 for small plate. Went there during their weekday off peak at 11am. No queues.. Auntie very nice to serve customers sitting nearby too. :) My favourite rojak stall. Take note it has short hours so come early or be prepared to be disappointed. Stall open 1030am.

The famous Hoover Rojak; portion was a little small for $4 but it definitely ranks as one of the best rojaks I have had. The sauce itself is worth a trip back, I wonder how the rojak with century egg will taste like 🤔
