Been wanting to find a good ramen place and I'm glad that Ramen Kiou hit the spot. We had their tonkutsu ramen and their gyoza and we were all very impressed!
The Deluxe Shoyu Tonkutsu Ramen ($15.20) was such a delight to enjoy. The soup itself was very rich and fatty, with complementary umami flavours coming from the pork bone broth and shoyu. All these were achieved without being too salty! The noodles were rather springy and the char siew was glorious. It was very tender, fatty and meaty all at the same time. I cleaned up the bowl without a single drop of soup left!
The Gyoza ($6.20) was decent, but the Mentai Mayo Gyoza I added ($3.70 with a drink) was even better. The mentaiko sauce has a lot of roe and was beautifully rich, complementing well with succulent gyoza meat.

Wanted something more than the standard pork broth-2pcs homemade Cha Shu-ramen egg-thin ramen so I ordered the kuro version. Before the order arrived I was secretly hoping they wouldn’t scrimp on the Black garlic oil but when it arrived I realised they over-exceeded my expectations and the noodles and soup was too greasy for one to take giant slurps of soup off the bowl.
The garlic was pretty potent- overpowering the rest of the dish and I’m guessing it was the addition of the fine yellow paste (seen in pic beside egg) that resembles the 蒜泥 from lor mee. Then again, my senses was too blunted to tell.
I really liked the tangy mustard green side though. It allowed me to consume more of the main and reminds me alittle of another Ramen store Men-ichi nearby a few years back which also served Takana (高菜) pickles drenched in sesame oil and sesame seeds and also had additionally, another deep-fried crunchy garlic topping that was free-flow.

I completed my meal with the Chawan Tamago Rice Set (+$8.90) which comes with a miso soup, fruits, tamago fried rice, and Chawan in an onion ring. The tamago fried rice was okay, but their garlic fried rice was much better, and of course, garlicky! The Chawan in an onion ring is the bomb. The egg was filtered properly, so it was so smooth, wobbly, and melted in the mouth with a savoury note. 🤤
If you feel like upgrading your side, you can choose to switch to Tofu Steak which is firm on the outside but soft and melty on the inside.
If you're still feeling hungry, you can try the Mentai Okonomiyaki ($12.90), which is a savoury pancake that consists of a thick mixture of vegetables and batter. It's topped with Mentai mayo, salty and tangy Worcestershire sauce mixture, and bonito flakes. It's loaded with ingredients, so it's definitely a filling dish. 🍳
Another option for your main dish is the Salmon ($16.90), which is slow-cooked teppan salmon drizzled with garlicky savoury sauce. The salmon was a bit overcooked for my liking, but it was still chewy and flavourful.
Ika Ichiyabohi ($17.90) is a huge piece of squid cooked on the teppan to perfection. The texture is just right, chewy but not rubbery. It's drizzled with garlic chili sauce for a garlicky, savoury and spicy kick. It's served with a standard savoury plate of teppan beansprouts as a side.
Before any one complains about my title, this is what’s written on Takagi’s signboard.
They are cheap. The basic ramen (Takagi Ramen) is $6.90. It comes with ramen, two slices of Cha Siew, spring onion and basically nothing else. Come on for $6.90 in a dine in fast food restaurant, to me that’s a lot. I added a tamago and abalone slices for $1 and $2 respectively and made it into a set for another $3.90. You get a side and a drink. You actually don’t have to as the portion of ramen is quite decent.
Flavour wise, although they claim never to give you soggy noodles, it was a bit soft for me because I prefer my ramen more al dente. Also, it was a tad salty but I have been told before my preference is for very bland food. Special mention for the pickled vegetables that you can choose to add. It is spicy and salty. Would have been nicer if the soup was more bland. Or just add chilli oil.
This place runs 24 hours a day, so if ever you feel peckish and want to get a bowl of ramen, there’s Takagi all over Singapore.
We bought 2 ramen, and add on dumpling and drink, and a rice bowl. Here, the only meat that they offer is pork (no chicken and beef). The spicy one is reallly spicy. They offer free noodles but I think the original quantity is sufficient. If you think you'll need more, get it at the start and add it to your soup straight away or else it gets hard and difficult to eat. It has quite a comfortable seating area and is not expensive ($8 range) but did not really like the flavours so wouldn't visit again!
