The 14-seater restaurant, helmed by chef Sam @sameo0402 and his team, with highlight custom fish ageing.
My first time tried fish ageing, it elevates texture and taste. The fish is more tender and taste more umami.

We were over at Honcho recently, a multi-concept venue that features an omakase restaurant, rooftop bar, and basement bar.
At their omakase restaurant, we got a sneak preview of their upcoming $68++/pax 6-course omakase dinner set that will be available only on Wednesdays. With highlights like fresh thick-cut sashimi and interesting nigiri sushi (with toppings like garlic butter & scallion sauce!) to a fork-tender braised short rib, it was an enjoyable set overall! For a big eater, I was substantially full by the end of the course, so I think the price point is pretty worth it too! Do note that some of the dishes you see here might be different from what you get as they plan to rotate the dishes seasonally.

Then came the assortment of makis that we ordered. The TFS Signature Maki is a platter of their signature makis all in one plate, perfect option for those of you who can't make a decision. We also gave their Ebi Fry Maki and Spicy Salmon Maki a try, which we slowly savour throughout the night, with accompanying drinks and friendly conversations - no better way to end off the night!
A hole in the wall (quite literally), this restaurant is hidden along an alley on Amoy Street and you'd quite possibly walk on by if you haven't been paying attention or intentionally looking for it.
We ordered a couple of dishes to share and started off with the Truffled Organic Ribeye Steak, which is a 200g NZ organic ribeye cooked to medium rare, topped with 5-6g of shaved truffles, accompanied by a bowl of grilled vegetables. Spotting a nice shade of copper red, this was flavourful and tender to say the least.
Totally terrible service! Boss was extremely rude and raised his voice when we were clarifying our orders. There was missing items from the order and it was not explained. And brushed us off saying he has no time to entertain us. WHAT!
We popped into this hole in the wall on Cross Street for a simple Japanese dinner on my birthday and we really loved this place! Calm and Muji-esque, Marukyu is a cosy place to enjoy authentic Japanese dishes with high quality ingredients from Japan. Their bento sets are generous and allow you to try a little bit of everything, definitely go for it if you are like me and struggle to decide what to eat most of the time.

Hand on my heart, my jaw met the floor when I saw the meal Chef-owner @topdoghatch and @eatmefabulous had arranged for delivery. It was without question, a spread of stupendous presentation, taste and quality. Not only did it showcase the best of seasonal Japanese produce but also the skills of the talented team at @hashida.sg.
The Chirashi ($150) and Futomaki ($130) were heavyweights in every sense of the word as they practically burst with the top-notch seafood and other ingredients.
Packed neatly in an all-natural box, the former held chunky cuts of incredibly fresh sea bream, amberjack, chutoro, anago and cooked prawns. On them were uni and ikura galore. Crunchy kampyo, cucumber and some sweetish braised shiitake mushrooms joined the party on the bed of deliciously seasoned rice as well. Every bite was unadulterated pleasure.
So too it was with the fantastic fat bolster of Futomaki that strained at its seaweed seams with the goodness of chutoro, steamed uni, seabream, anago, amberjack, prawns, denbu, tamagoyaki, shiitake mushrooms, kampyo, cucumber, mistsuba leaf (Japanese parsley) and sesame seeds. Super oishii!
Salmon Sashimi - Really fresh and tender! The only thing about this is that it didn’t come as cold as I liked it to be!
Garlic Butter Clam Udon - I love love the sauce! I thought it would be overpowering and gelat, but somehow they manage to pull it off. The sauce is creamy and garlicky, and goes really well with the chewy udon! Highly recommend to try! :)
Wagyu beef udon soup - Loved this as well! The soup is so so light, and the aftertaste is so unique. The beef taste a bit like a beef patty, but it’s sooo juicy and tender and flavourful. Also not overly heavy and gelat!!!
Japanese ice cream waffle - The waffle had a unique aftertaste and the ice cream was very creamy!!
Overall, a pleasant experience! A really cozy cafe and the waiters there were all very very professional!
