Used to love their Mille crepes, and while tastewise it is still pretty good (Green Tea pictured), the price is getting ridiculous...$14.99 for a slice of cake is enormously pricey. Perhaps for a date or special occasion, as the shop's ambience and surroundings are quite aesthetic.
An institution in and of itself. Pretty long queue on a Fri night, but it moves fast. Space is cramped, so don't expect to have lengthy conversations with your table comfortably - meant to finish your dessert and move off. As for the desserts, there's an extensive variety for every preference. Don't expect to be wow-ed, but you know you'll be getting a good bowl of traditional Chinese dessert at a fair price.
I never thought creamy avo🥑 would work so well in pulut hitam!! This is my go-to here, but I'll get the refreshing avocado sago instead❄️ when the weather's hot and I crave something icy. Fam's fav is durian chendol🔥
($8.50) finally tried their snow ice on my wishlist but their red bean was not bad and quite soft texture. But green tea is meh tbh 👀.
($4.20) it's my favourite canned food (peach) when I was younger but I don't like to eat real peach tbh lol. But I just felt that grass jelly was getting too little compared to peach lol 👀. But it's quite refreshing and also sweet aftertaste.
Golden Banana used to be rather popular at Golden Mile Complex, and like a few other F&B establishments from there have now shifted to City Gate.
Now situated on 2nd storey of City gate, golden banana is certainly a must have for me. Everytime before I leave city gate, I will definitely get a packet of golden banana.
Taste almost like Goreng pisang that is much sweeter and crisper. Shiok!
Avocado Sago ($8) and Durian Mousse ($7.60). I love their unique variety of desserts as you seldom see Avocado desserts. The Avocado Sago comes with a scoop of ice cream, taro qq and aiyu jelly. The taste blend well tgt and the diff ingredients give diff kind of texture. We also ordered the hot durian mousse which turn out better than expected. The durian was sweet and can see a generous amt of actual durian. Would totally come back for this.
When we first discovered Yat Ka Yan, we were thrilled to find a dessert spot with a chendol that can rival the best, both locally and overseas. Top it with a scoop of durian for the ultimate indulgence. 😋 Another gem? Their chee cheong fun—elevated from the usual sweet sauce-chilli combo to a delicious version topped with cai po and fried shallots. Truly a must-visit!
If you haven’t tried Yat Ka Yan, this is your sign to go! Known for their delicious local desserts and snacks, their chendol is an absolute must-try. The finely shaved ice, paired with chendol jelly, red bean, gula melaka syrup, and a splash of coconut milk, creates the perfect sweet, refreshing combination. Don’t miss out!
Many of us may sad for the closure of Golden Mile Tower, but thankfully that most of the shops still continue their business elsewhere. Which included this famous crispy banana stall that used to be in the supermarket there.
Now they opened their standalone store at City Gate on level 2. Selling their crispy snacks including yam, sweet potato ball and of course the signature crispy banana.
Lovely crispy texture of the fried banana.
Ah Chew Dessert used to be my favourite Chinese Dessert Stall in Singapore.
Visited recently, and somehow, the desserts don't satisfy me anymore..
We got the following items:
-Hot Yam Paste ($3.50)
-Black Glutinuous Rice with Mixed Tang Yuan ($3.30 + $1.50)
Firstly, the portion sizes seems to have reduced for the yam paste. Secondly, the gingko nuts is chopped and blended all around in the yam paste, which is not to my preference, since I love yam paste that is pure, without gingko! So my satisfaction of the bowl was greatly reduced.
And since I love to order warm orh nee yam paste at Chinese dessert stalls, guess I will be patronising other stalls in future when looking for dessert places!
I also got the Mini Canelés ($8/ 6pcs) which the Aunty told me is only available occasionally. The texture was great, them being mini seems to make the crunchy dark caramelized crust that much more addictive to snack on (not forgetting the contrasting tender interior). The vanilla flavour was pronounced too.
