Drips Bakery CafĂ©/Sakanoue CafĂ©âs Matcha Strawberry Field Kakigori ($18.80): Delish matcha espuma and moreish crunchy crumble with bright strawberry sauce at the bottom. The fresh strawberry bits hidden in the middle were a little sour though.
A surprising favourite, the unassuming Lemon Mascarpone ($17.50) was a refreshing hit. With an almost lip-puckering but more lip-smacking lemon sauce, the bowl was amazing balanced with the airy espuma Mascarpone, rich cocoa powder and smooth mascarpone cheese sauce. The crunchy-crisp meringue cookie studded in the middle of the heap was a yummy textural find too. So very moreish with the fluffy ice.
Got my kakigori fix at the Sakanoue CafĂ© last month and wah the fuwa fuwa ice still slaps. Now, with its permanent location on our little island, the famed Tokyo shaved ice is housed in Drips Bakery CafĂ©âs Tiong Bahru outlet and is available from 1pm daily.
Having tried a few flavours in their previous pop-ups, I knew I had to get the Signature Blackforest ($19.8) which is exclusive to Singapore. The hefty-looking number was loaded with luscious chocolate sauce, cream cheese, brandied cherries, tea caramel sauces and cinnamon crumble cookies. On the side was also cherry brandy liqueur to be added for a more boozy kick. Not too rich with the ice but the toppings packed a delicious punch. There is a nice sourness to the cherries and pleasant bittersweetness with the chocolate sauce that wonderfully replicates the familiar blackforest-esque flavours.
Pleasantly surprised with the solid sourdough sandwiches and donuts at Caffe Pralet!
Spam Bam ($12) - Packing a surprising lingering heat, the luscious paprika egg mayo salad multigrain sourdough sandwich seemed unassuming at first but was punchy with the addition of jalapenos, scallions, spam, and baby spinach.
Pleasantly surprised with the solid sourdough sandwiches and donuts at Caffe Pralet!
Beef'in Cheese'in ($14) - Like a yakiniku beef sando, the multigrain sourdough was stuffed nicely with braised tender beef chuck, cheddar, mozzarella, caramelized onions, gherkins (pickled cucumber), and baby spinach. So savoury!
Pleasantly surprised with the solid sourdough sandwiches and donuts at Caffe Pralet!
Cheeky Avocado ($13) - Succulent grilled chicken breast, loaded with nutty cashew chipotle pesto, creamy sliced avocado, fresh tomatoes, onions, gherkins (pickled cucumber), a generous amount of baby spinach, between soft garlic chye poh sourdough. A very balanced meal. Love the slight herbaceous flavour!
For the perfect donut party get the Demi Dozen (starting at $20/ 6pcs)!
Cinnamon Sugar ($3.20) - This classic cinnamon sugar snack was one of my favourites among the selection. More gentle and balanced spice notes.
Burnt Butter Honey Glaze ($3.60) - An indulgent number with rich burnt caramel flavour. Would be even better with more sea salt on the ânot-too-thick or cloying, sticky-sweetâ glaze.
Lemon Cremeux ($3.60) - Tangy, smooth lemon curd-filled fluffy donut was a win but the amount of creamy filling was a no-go as certain bites had no filling at all.
Pistachio Raspberry Crunch ($4.80) - Studded with nutty pistachio crunch and drizzled with tart raspberry jam, the donut got quite the mixed reception as some enjoyed the bright flavour of the jam while others found it overpowering.
Chocolate Fudge ($4) - A foolproof, crowd-pleasing combo with rich dark 56% chocolate fudge, 70% dark chocolate shavings and toasted cacao nibs.
Drips Bakery CafĂ© is a delightful spot that offers a cozy ambiance paired with creative pastries and unique beverages. Among the items I tried, the Almond Croissant was the clear favorite. The croissant was perfectly flaky, with a generous filling of high-quality almonds that tasted fresh and indulgent. Itâs one of those pastries that youâll want to come back for.
The Seasonal Fruit Tart, while visually appealing, didnât quite steal the show but still delivered a pleasant balance of sweetness and tartness. Another highlight was the Ondeh Ondeh Danish, a pretty pastry infused with the familiar flavors of pandan and gula melaka. Itâs a modern twist on a local favorite and definitely worth trying. On the other hand, the Mushroom Chicken Pie fell a little flat. While hearty, it lacked the standout flavors that would make it truly memorable.
The drinks were equally intriguing, especially the Cappuccino and Iced Café Latte, both made with Koji Rice milk. The rice milk added a creamy and slightly sweet note that complemented the coffee well, making the beverages a unique and enjoyable part of the experience.
Overall, Drips Bakery Café impressed with its inventive take on classic items and thoughtful execution. While not every dish wowed, the Almond Croissant and Ondeh Ondeh Danish alone make it worth a visit. For a cozy afternoon snack or a coffee date with a twist, this café is a great choice.
I had a hunch this would be good. The bread was pillowy and fragrant, while the red bean and cream were top-grade.
- One of the smoothest Iâve had!!
- Pudding was delicately soft and melt-in-the-mouth served with clear brown sugar syrup thatâs not too sweet. [9/10]
- Super smooth without any strain of grainy or siap aftertaste đ
- Very easy to finish alone, beany taste milder than the former.
- Rich aroma of the beans though I wouldnât mind a slightly thicker consistency. [8.5/10]
ordered the assorted box which came in 3 flavours : burnt butter honey glaze, cinnamon sugar and lemon cremeux. personal fav would be the cinnamon sugar and can i say the softness of the doughnut was quite commendable. had pretty high hopes for the lemon but left slightly disappointed as the lemon filling wasnât enough for the whole doughnut so it felt like a plain doughnut instead
